WHITEHALL, Wis. -- Illinois-based Milk Specialties Global says they are closing their Whitehall, WI plant at the end of the month. Company President Eddie Wells tells News 8 the decision to close the plant was an economic one. He says employees are in the plant right now packing up equipment, and they should be finished by the end of January.
Milk Specialties creates proteins for sports nutrition and weight loss as well as animal nutrition.
OSHA fined the company $535,000 in May of 2010 for safety violations. Wells says the decision to close the plant had nothing to do with the fine. Wells says the employees have done a fabulous job for the company and he hopes that someday they will be able to re-open the plant.
