Title: Murdoch to Hill: Reform immigration (Amnesty)

Billionaire Rupert Murdoch, whose media empire includes the conservative cable channel Fox News, made the case to Congress Thursday that a broad immigration overhaul – with a path to citizenship for millions of illegal immigrants – is critical to “strengthening America’s economy.”

His testimony before a House Judiciary Committee immigration panel came as Democratic Sens. Robert Menendez of New Jersey and Patrick Leahy of Vermont introduced a comprehensive immigration reform bill that includes a path to legalization, a temporary worker program, workplace and border enforcement measures and the DREAM Act, which failed in the Senate last week.

Murdoch, who immigrated to the United States from Australia, told the committee that he supports sealing the U.S. borders to future illegal immigrants but creating a path to citizenship for responsible, law-abiding immigrants already living in the United States.

“It is nonsense to talk of expelling 12 million people,” Murdoch said. “Not only is it impractical, it is cost prohibitive.”

His views on immigration, one of the hot-button issues of this partisan election season, stand in stark contrast to the anti-immigrant rhetoric often espoused by Republicans and commentators who appear on his Fox News network.

Murdoch, chairman and CEO of News Corp., cited a study that shows a path to legalization would contribute about $1.5 trillion to the gross domestic product over the next decade. And he spoke candidly, telling his personal story of immigrating to America.

“As an immigrant, I chose to live in America because it is one of the freest and most vibrant nations in the world. And as an immigrant, I feel an obligation to speak up for immigration policies that will keep America the most economically robust, creative and freedom-loving nation in the world,” he said.

Murdoch was joined at the hearing by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Earlier this year, the two launched Partnership for a New American Economy, a coalition of business and big-city mayors that advocates for sweeping immigration reform.

“Our broken system of immigration is undermining our economy, slowing our recovery and hurting millions of Americans,” Bloomberg said. “We believe that immigration reform needs to become a top national priority. We’re urging members of both parties to help us shift the debate away from emotions and towards economics, because the economics couldn’t be any clearer.”

The hearing of the Judiciary Committee’s Immigration Subcommittee came less a week after the same panel welcomed another high-profile guest to testify on the plight of migrant farm workers: comedian Stephen Colbert, who took the opportunity to mock committee members and Congress.

Guess it's time for Conservatives to boycott Fox and denounce all the politicians such as Palin, Rove, Gingrich, etc., that are on their payroll.

And the Conservative plan to create jobs is......?????

I can't imagine anyone watching or listening to Hannity unless they're in a nursing home on life support.

Beck I can understand, since he has the same appeal as the late Dr. Gene Scott. Entertaining in a "will he commit suicide on the air?" kind of way.

I don't watch Hannity. He'll drive you nuts. Glenn Beck tries to act independent but he's an Oreilly wannabe drama queen.

I do watch Oreilly as I think he's the bell weather of the station. Right now he's faking feuds with other talk show hoststo drum up the viewership.

Cool! I can really support that one since there ARE no law-abiding illegal aliens in the country. If you are here illegally, you are a criminal and barred from applying for or receiving a VISA or applying for citizenship.

I almost wish I didn't already have the Mad Dog quote tagline,or I would create one that reads:

You do realize that the private sector has created over 750,000 jobs since Obama became President.

The GOP alternative was to create millions more unemployed.

Beyond the odd kook? Sure.

The logistics alone related to attempting to 'expell' 12 million illegals is virtually impossible.

Nobody thats taken seriously on the Right is suggesting it.

But hey, since you are channelling Alan Grayson this week, I'm sure you pretend otherwise (laughing).

I guess this also helps explain his $1 million donation to the US Chamber of Commerce, who have always been in favor of wide open borders.

No, back to laughing at you.

Are you not aware that Sarah Palin called for deporting all illegals during an appearance on the O'Reilly show?

Palin responded that she would like all illegal immigrants to register and that, in an ideal situation, “you deport them. you have to get them out of here.”

http://www.mediaite.com/tv/sarah-palin-americans-must-learn-from-reagans-mistakes-on-illegal- immigration/

So by your definition, she's an odd kook.

Got ya. So here's what we know from badeye:

- Things will get worse after the GOP takes the Congress

- Palin is an odd-kook

Thanks!
