The San Bruno gas pipe explosion (and I just this week end put in a new 500 gal tank with pipeline, just sayin ;} was attributed to the San Andreas having a 1.0 richter the day before.
San Bruno sits right atop the San Andreas.
And i remember coming home from a Big Day Science Teaching Class and the wife had the TV on to the World Series Earthquake.
You know, the one where the top bridge highway fell on the bottom.
That said, we're over due for the Richter 10/11 on the West Coast and the New Madrid.
Avg for the New Madrid is 167 years. Last was 1811 ...

I suppose by now you realize that this is a totally bogus story by a guy selling earthquake survival kits. Some of you people are so gullible it's no wonder you fall for frauds like Palin and O'Donnell.

Every day we have earthquakes up and down the San Andreas and the Hayward which is one of it's forks.
And everyday the insanity of building homes, laying infrastructure right on top of the fault becomes more evident.
Like 1/2 of UC Berkley stadium heads for Alaska while the other 1/2 travels to Baja. ;}
