How To Title: Ken Mehlman: Homosexuality and Republican self loathing Ken Mehlman, former head of the Republican National Committee and George W. Bush's 2004 re-election campaign manager announced he is gay in a recently published interview. Mehlman ran the RNC from 2005 to 2007, and is the highest-profile national Republican figure to come out as gay. Mehlman speaking to the online edition of The Atlantic magazine, said: "It's taken me 43 years to get comfortable with this part of my life. Everybody has their own path to travel, their own journey, and for me, over the past few months, I've told my family, friends, former colleagues, and current colleagues, and they've been wonderful and supportive. The process has been something that's made me a happier and better person. It's something I wish I had done years ago." Mehlman, a 43-year-old lawyer, said that after years of public service he wanted to become a gay rights advocate in his private life. Next month Mehlman will participate in a fundraiser for the American Foundation for Equal Rights, an organization that has fought the Proposition 8 ballot initiative banning same-sex marriage in California. While Mehlman seems happy with his choices, it is hard to respect a man that ran a vicious campaign demonizing gay people by pushing anti-same sex propositions across the country. Mehlman was a moral coward. His hypocrisy was disgraceful, yet all too common among conservatives. Time, and time again, it seems those who work the hardest against gay rights turn out to be gay themselves. There is something deeply disturbing, and tragic, about the self loathing homosexual living in the closet. The fact that these poor, dysfunctional human beings gravitate towards conservative religion and politics should come as no surprise. Time, and time again, it seems those who work the hardest against gay rights turn out to be gay themselves. I thought he was outed years ago. But he continues with the true Republican poster boy tradition of flip flopping on social issues, and wanting other people's kids to die overseas so he can go dating and night clubbing all over the world in peace. "See in my line of work, you got to keep repeating things over and over and over again for the truth to sink in, to kind of catapult the propaganda." --- George W. Bush (Rochester NY, 5-24-2005) #3. To: mininggold (#2) I thought so too. When I heard that a prominent GOP guy was outed I thought for sure it was going to be Rove.
#4. To: war (#0) "It's taken me 43 years to get comfortable with this part of my life . . . " Hmmmmmmmmm, let's see. 43 minus 43 equals 0? So he was an infant when he "discovered" he was a homosexual? Talk about a child prodigy . . . ______________________________________________________________________________ #5. To: Ignore Amos (#4) (Edited) Most gay people I know claim to have known since they were in 1st or 2nd grade that there was something different about themselves.
#6. To: war (#5) Most gay people I know claim to have known since they were in 1st or 2nd grade that there was something different about themselves. But he said it's taken him "43 years" to get comfortable with it . . . and he's only 43 years old. Seems he should have said something like "35 years" or so. It makes what he said a ridiculous statement on its face. ______________________________________________________________________________ #7. To: Ignore Amos (#6) (Edited) Aha...you enjoy the practical over the metaphorical. He was being metaphoric. basically, anyone who says "I've spent my entire life doing/trying/working...balh blah..." is oiffering up the same...
#8. To: war (#0) The fact that these poor, dysfunctional human beings gravitate towards conservative religion and politics should come as no surprise. I wonder who could be next?
