#8. To: Fred Mertz, continental op, jhoffa_, mudboy slim, Jethro Tull (#1) Who is one_crazy_jew If you go by more than one screen name. I think it is fair to tell everyone that you are the same screen name. Jethro Tull's IP is the same as One_crazy_Jew. It is not fair to have more than one screen name. This isn't the only case of this. I have been aware of this for a while. So if you have more than one screen name. Expect it to be known. It is only fair.
#17. To: A K A Stone (#8) I post under the same screen name wherever I post, except at TOS...MUD
#18. To: Mudboy Slim (#17) I post under the same screen name wherever I post, except at TOS...MUD Actually you have posted as Ryan Bailey also.
#19. To: A K A Stone (#18) I most certainly have NOT...not at any forum. Who the heck's Ryan Bailey?
#21. To: Mudboy Slim (#19) I most certainly have NOT...not at any forum. Who the heck's Ryan Bailey? You have the same IP. You only posted as him once or so. No big deal.
#22. To: A K A Stone (#21) "You have the same IP..." Seriously, Mr. Stone, I have never posted as "Ryan Bailey"...I'll do a search and see what the heck he said...MUD
#23. To: Mudboy Slim, neil mciver (#22) You can have McIver confirm it for you if he wishes to.
#25. To: A K A Stone, Neil McIver (#23) "You can have McIver confirm it for you if he wishes to." Please let me know what you find out...are IP addresses particular to a specific computer or are they accessible from various routes?

#48. To: Mudboy Slim, A K A Stone (#25) Please let me know what you find out...are IP addresses particular to a specific computer or are they accessible from various routes? It depends, actually. The same IP address can show up for a lot of computers at one institution if all web traffic channels through a single proxy server. Users of AOL or similar huge online dialup services assign IP's dynamically every time someone connects to the net, so it's distantly possible 2 different people could happen upon the same IP given enough time. But users with broadband access to the net usually have a single relatively constant IP address. Cable companies seem to like to change it only every few months, DSL seems to be a permanent IP. Bottom line, it's a strong indicator of something common between 2 posters, but whether it's a long shot coincidence, 2 people from the same university, home or one person with one computer, it's a bit short of being sufficient for a conviction. It takes a little bit more evidence to convince me beyond reasonable doubt that there's a match. Like posting style, posting times, or other commonalities.
#66. To: Neil McIver (#48) Thanks, Mr. McIver...all I know is that I've never posted here or anywhere else as Ryan Bailey.

#67. To: Mudboy Slim (#66) Thanks, Mr. McIver...all I know is that I've never posted here or anywhere else as Ryan Bailey. Quit denyint it mudbot. The ip doesn't lie.

#70. To: Fred Mertz (#68) I was on dial-up when I first registered here, but now I'm on cable...MUD
#71. To: Mudboy Slim, Jhoffa_, Fred Mertz, Continental Op, Jethro Tull (#70) Ok here is what I have learned. There is a third screen name with the exact same IP as slim and bailys. It just so happens that this screen name is for someone I know and actually helped them set it up. Now that is very strange. Does anyone know any reason that this could be the case?
#78. To: A K A Stone (#71) "this screen name is for someone I know" Perhaps that person is actually the REAL "Mudboy Slim"...MUD
Replies to Comment # 78. Perhaps that person is actually the REAL "Mudboy Slim"...MUD not a chance.
