Opinions/Editorials Title: Lou Pritchett - Another GOP Mouthpiece Lou Pritchett - Another GOP Mouthpiece and of the worst sort. Snopes tells me this letter from Lou Pritchett, formerly the bigwig at P&G, is real. The letter itself tells me he's bucking to be on with Hannity and crowd more often. This is propaganda of the highest sort, the bigger the lie the more easily believed. If you're going to use scare tactics it sure pays to use the word "scared" as many times as possible. I've taken his single-statement paragraphs and interspersed by own responses between them. Mine will be italicized. AN OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT OBAMA Dear President Obama: You are the thirteenth President under whom I have lived and unlike any of the others, you truly scare me. This is a setup line that, like so much of the Republican extreme right wing rhetoric is ... To scare us, to scare us of the possibility of change. You scare me because after months of exposure, I know nothing about you. Then you need to do more research, you that leads the most research crazed company in the nation. Anyone ever try to do an ad for P&G? They throw out three of every four produced because the don’t test well. Why not just try to tell the truth about your products and let them stand on their own merits? Have you not realized that Honda is a great company because of great products and ads that very simply point that out? You scare me because I do not know how you paid for your expensive Ivy League education and your upscale lifestyle and housing with no visible signs of support. Then you need to do more research, you that claims ignorance for things that could be learned if one chose to put some time into it. Have you ever heard of Pell Grants? Loans? Scholarships? Summer work? Or do you think the Bin Laden family helped pay for it? I doubt that, they are the strongest of friends with the Bush clan. As for his post-college years he did earn income and his wife was doing quite well. As I recall he only paid off his student loans a few years ago. Hmm - productive member of society repaying society for what was loaned him. A responsible black man, wait, a responsible RADICAL (in your eyes) black man! No wonder you're beliefs are shaken. You scare me because you did not spend the formative years of youth growing up in America and culturally you are not an American. Bullfeathers. Obama is more in touch with the American people than most of our politicians GOP and Dems included – it’s just an America that they don’t care about, the America that can’t or won’t contribute to their campaigns. You scare me because you have never run a company or met a payroll. Mr. Pritchett, you scare me because all you care about is the payroll, your own not your company's. A company's payroll is important, yes, but that payroll is what allows people to buy stuff and all that has been happening for the last 30 years is corporations taking jobs to countries with cheaper labor and closing plants here. You’re fine with payroll as long as it is as low as possible and without care for the nation where you sell most of your goods. You scare me because you have never had military experience, thus don't understand it at its core. Perhaps you can tell me exactly how Febreze works before you speak again? Having intelligence – which I define as the ability to intake new information and act upon it accordingly – along with THE BEST MILITARY in the WORLD, and ditto on the military leadership, makes Obama a fine Commander-in-Chief. Who do you think pushed the "Go" button on the Somali pirates, saving captain, crew and ship? Diplomacy is a wonderful thing, especially when a big stick is occasionally whacked upside the opponents head. You scare me because you lack humility and 'class', always blaming others. Bullfeathers. Perhaps you should look in the mirror, Mr. Pritchett. You scare me because for over half your life you have aligned yourself with radical extremists who hate America and you refuse to publicly denounce these radicals who wish to see America fail. Bullfeathers again. Anyone who worked in the communities Obama did had the same encounters. They were alliances for good beyond the issues of those people in the past. The founding fathers, in leaving England, were radicals. That said, yes, there were some radicals that went too far. They should be punished according to our laws and most have. You scare me because you are a cheerleader for the 'blame America' crowd and deliver this message abroad.
You scare me because you want to change America to a European style country where the government sector dominates instead of the private sector. Not true. We just want parity, an even playing ground, rather than the collusion that takes free trade into a zone of immoral behavior. Remember Enron? That’s what happens every day in the financial, healthcare, energy and who knows what other markets, too. I am a believer in free markets. At the highest levels we do not have them here. You scare me because you want to replace our health care system with a government controlled one. Yes, we do. If it can save our country a trillion dollars a year, which it can by reasonable thinking, who wouldn’t want it? You scare me because you prefer 'wind mills' to responsibly capitalizing on our own vast oil, coal and shale reserves. Yes, we do. If we were smart we’d be making use of alternative energy not only to decrease our level of pollution but, like the Chinese, we’d be saving our own reserves for when, some day, the middle east runs dry. I look forward to that day. You scare me because you want to kill the American capitalist goose that lays the golden egg which provides the highest standard of living in the world. The best standard of living for you and your cronies perhaps. As for the middle class, you sold us out when you took manufacturing jobs overseas chasing cheaper labor. The weight of your mansions is crushing the roofs of the downsized homes the middle class is moving to. You scare me because you have begun to use 'extortion' tactics against certain banks and corporations. Ummm, sir, your boy Georgie W and his folks in the GOP were asleep at the wheel only to wake up and hand over the nations coffers to Wall Street. The Dems were part of that problem, too, but Lehman Brothers went down because Hank Paulson didn’t like them. The Dems, and Obama specifically, had nothing to do with it. The GOP started the party and bolted out the back door when things got out of hand. Are your pockets full of party favors, I hope? You scare me because your own political party shrinks from challenging you on your wild and irresponsible spending proposals. Our economy was screwed before Obama was elected. The GOP started the bailouts as “The Only Way to Save that Which is TO BIG TO FAIL.” How stupid do you think we are to not remember that? You scare me because you will not openly listen to or even consider opposing points of view from intelligent people. That is pure, sorry it ain’t feathers anymore and it stinks to high .... Well you get the idea. More lies from a GOP pundit on his soapbox. I'll also question your definition of intelligent people. I think you may mean other spewers of the GOP line that lack any ability to see beyond their own pocketbooks. You scare me because you falsely believe that you are both omnipotent and omniscient. Mr. Pritchett, you scare-mongering piece of fecal matter, on what merit do you base your statement of what Obama believes about himself? You scare me because the media gives you a free pass on everything you do. Have you NEVER watched Fox news? Oh, right, you’re a CNN guy. Oh, wait, I just read your next statement which points to the very media that craps on everything Obama does simply because they want ratings ... And there are about 5 million Americans who, for whatever reason, actually watch and believe the bile that comes from those shows. Some of those are paid to attend town hall meetings and get ugly angry. You scare me because you demonize and want to silence the Limbaughs, Hannitys, O'Relllys and Becks who offer opposing, conservative points of view. As I said, here’s the media with the opposing voice and, as I recall, Obama even sat with The Worst Person in The World – Bill O’Reilly. And you mis-spelled his name by the way. You scare me because you prefer controlling over governing. Nice framing (the use of specific words that push a person’s buttons) but yes, we need to control spending, we need to control collusion ridden businesses, and we need to control our enemies. Perhaps we should try to govern the Taliban? Finally, you scare me because if you serve a second term I will probably not feel safe in writing a similar letter in 8 years. Then you are a coward and a quitter, sir, and not worthy of the time of day. Lou Pritchett wrote the non-italicized letter. ChristianDemocrat wrote the italicized portions and will add one thought - change takes courage. We're all a little scared out here and the GOP folks are playing it to the hilt. Suck it up folks, we're in for a long ride. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Post Comment Private Reply Ignore Thread Top • Page Up • Full Thread • Page Down • Bottom/Latest Begin Trace Mode for Comment # 7. #2. To: Maw Kettle (#1) Hey Maw!!!! How's the Heartland this fine AM? We had some good news two Sunday ago...grand daughter #2 was born.
#5. To: war (#2) War, it's HOT here in Southwest Missouri - and busy! Football camp is going on this week for both my boys - the little one in the morning and the older one in the evening. Ol' Maw is just trying to keep up with them and not melt into a big puddle! Today is my second son's 19th birthday and Thursday will be the oldest one's 23rd birthday. This is a busy week for us! :) I'm very happy to hear that you have a new grandbaby to love! Congratulations! As Melanie said in "Gone With the Wind:" "The best days are the days when babies come...." I hope mother and baby are doing well! :)
#6. To: Maw Kettle (#5) Glad to hear that all is well. Is Paw working steady again? Mom is doing fine but the bigger little 'un is going Full Bore into the Terrible Two's...
#7. To: war (#6) Yes, war, Paw is working steady, thank the Lord. I finally quit my home-based medical transcription job a few weeks ago. There just wasn't much work coming my way so it wasn't worth it any more. I'm enjoying being "just a housewife" for the first time in many, many years! My sympathies are with your daughter-in-law...I still remember the "Terrible Twos" of some of my boys...whew! The "Terrible Twos", I believe, are why God sends babies to young people! :)
