Cult Watch Title: Reid Rival Angle: My Campaign Is Part Of God's 'Plan' Over the weekend, Republican Senate candidate Sharon Angle told the founder of the Christian Coalition that her campaign was part of God's plan. Angle is trying to build a wide coalition in Nevada between libertarian-leaning Tea Party supporters and social conservatives in an attempt to defeat Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. Conservative activist Ralph Reed asked Angle about her surging popularity in an interview posted to his website Tuesday. "How do you explain all this?" Reed queried. "You're now a national story, are you kind of overwhelmed by it all?" "I believe that God has been in this from the beginning and because of that when he has a plan and a purpose for your life and you fit into that, what he calls you to he always equipped you for," said Angle. The Huffington Post's San Stein notes that Angle's religion has been more a part of her campaign than other Tea Party candidates. "She is devoutly pro-life, arguing against abortion in cases of rape and incest because 'God has a plan,'" reported Stein. Christian Broadcasting Network's David Brody described Angle's effort to unseat Reid as a true "David vs Goliath" scenario. "I think the reason is a calling," she recently told a congregation at a church in Carson City, Nevada. "It's interesting how when you have God in your life that he directs your path." This video is from Ralph Reed, uploaded to YouTube July July 13, 2010.

Ok,so Reid gets re-elected. Nothing changes. "I adore John McCain, support him 100 percent and will do everything I can to support his reelection. Even Rassmussen - whose polls have a margin of +4-5 GOP - only has her up by 3.
#5. To: sneakypete (#3) Its hilarious Reid is losing to her. Only because she is getting the "she ain't Reid,so I will vote for her" backers who don't know anything else about her yet. Agree with the former, I don't think the latter will hurt her as much as you seem to think. We'll see. Obama's first all-by-his-lonesome budget, btw, calls for a $1.17 trillion deficit. #6. To: Badeye, sneakypete (#5) Agree with the former, I don't think the latter will hurt her as much as you seem to think. Most people don't realize Nevada is one of the few states (maybe the only one) that has "None Of The Above Candidates" on its ballot. If Dirty Harry can get the anti-Reid voters to choose that option, he might squeak it out. Besides, he's a dem - so don't discount the illegals, the dead, and the ACORN vote. If I could, I would. #7. To: Ignore Amos (#6) Chyea...next they'll start working on the courts.
#8. To: Ignore Amos (#6) Most people don't realize Nevada is one of the few states (maybe the only one) that has "None Of The ArEbove Candidates" on its ballot. Now I'm jealous! I want to see that as a option on all ballots, and in ANY election where "None of the above" wins the popular vote, another election should be held WITH ALL THE PARTIES THAT RAN A CANDIDATE IN THE PREVIOUS ELECTION PICKING UP ALL THE EXPENSES. Repeat,if the second election ends with NOTA winning again, and keep repeating until they provide candidates people are willing to vote for. All we are going to get is more of the same until the parties start having to pay out of their own pockets. To: sneakypete (#8) I want to see that as a option on all ballots I lived in NV for a year and a half back in the '90s - that's when I first learned of it. I thought it was a great idea, too. I'd always heard (though I don't know if it's true or urban legend) that the only time NOTA actually won was in the 1980 dem primary (between Jimmah Cahrter and Drunk Teddy). If it IS true, I can certainly understand why it happened. If I could, I would. #10. To: war (#4) Even Rassmussen - whose polls have a margin of +4-5 GOP - only has her up by 3. Reid has a 48% STRONGLY disapproval rating. Don't see how he overcomes that
#11. To: sneakypete (#3) Wait until they find out she is a religious loon and watch her numbers drop. Las Vegas also has the highest number of churches per capita of any major U.S. city.
#12. To: Ignore Amos (#6) Most don't realize Harry Reid is a member of the LDS Church. If the Dems want to go 'there'...ooookay. Lets compare kook religious beliefs. Obama's first all-by-his-lonesome budget, btw, calls for a $1.17 trillion deficit. #13. To: no gnu taxes (#11) Most don't realize Harry Reid is a member of the LDS Church. Obama's first all-by-his-lonesome budget, btw, calls for a $1.17 trillion deficit. #14. To: Badeye (#12) Most don't realize Harry Reid is a member of the LDS Church. Yeah, but NV (IIRC) has the second highest LDS population (after Utah) in the US. So that might be a net gain for Reid. Just as an aside, when I lived in NV it was in a little town - far away from the population centers of Reno and LV. The town had only 2 casinos - the larger one owned by an LDS lady. Turns out it was okay for her to OWN a casino, but she wouldn't let anyone who was LDS WORK there. Go figure . . . If I could, I would. #15. To: Badeye (#13) Times and Seasons 2009 Mormon of the Year: Harry Reid I never realized he was LDS. Yet everybody knows Romney is.
#16. To: Badeye (#12) Most don't realize Harry Reid is a member of the LDS Church. I lived in Nevada for 7 years. I'm sure most Nevada voters know Reid is LDS and don't care. He certainly doesn't come across as a religious zealot.
#17. To: lucysmom (#16) He certainly doesn't come across as a religious zealot. Why is that? Do you know him personally? If I could, I would. #18. To: Ignore Amos (#14) I don't think it will mean anything positive for Reid. He's despised by such a large margin within the state's voting block...it will take something spectacular to save him. We'll see. Obama's first all-by-his-lonesome budget, btw, calls for a $1.17 trillion deficit. #19. To: no gnu taxes (#15) I never realized he was LDS. What? The mainstream media isn't reporting facts fairly? Oh, the HORROR....(laughing) Obama's first all-by-his-lonesome budget, btw, calls for a $1.17 trillion deficit. #20. To: lucysmom (#16) He certainly doesn't come across as a religious zealot. I always saw him as being a Satanist.
#21. To: lucysmom (#16) I lived in Nevada for 7 years. Nobody comes across as a 'religious zealot' til the media and/or a political campaign tries to paint somebody as one. If what you say is true about Nevada voters is true, then this line of attack against Angle won't work. Obama's first all-by-his-lonesome budget, btw, calls for a $1.17 trillion deficit. #22. To: no gnu taxes (#11) Las Vegas also has the highest number of churches per capita of any major U.S. city. That's too bad. No wonder the state is so screwed up. "The ocean will take care of this on its own if it was left alone and left out there. It's natural. It's as natural as the ocean water is." - Rush Limbaugh #23. To: Ignore Amos (#17) Why is that? Do you know him personally? The fact that you just found out that he's LDS should tell you that. No, I've never met him. I have heard him interviewed and discussed however. A local radio talk show host, Rusty Humphries, a Limbaugh protege, liked him - didn't agree with him politically and supported his opponent, but thought he was a likable decent guy.
#24. To: lucysmom (#23) When you boil it all down, most of us don't know ANY of these people personally. What we DO know about them is filtered through a compliant or hostile media. I try to keep that fact in mind when I evaluate a person's capability to hold public office. If the local talk show host you mentioned can declare Reid a "likable, decent guy" even though he disagreed with his politics, then good on him. I wish we had more in the media like that. If I could, I would. #25. To: Badeye (#21) Nobody comes across as a 'religious zealot' til the media and/or a political campaign tries to paint somebody as one. Well, Sharron Angle seems to have given the media something to work with on that issue.
#26. To: lucysmom (#25) hypocrite. Obama's first all-by-his-lonesome budget, btw, calls for a $1.17 trillion deficit. #27. To: no gnu taxes (#11) Las Vegas also has the highest number of churches per capita of any major U.S. city. Yup,and you can even have Elvis marry you in one of them. #29. To: lucysmom (#28) You give one politician a pass on a bizzare religious viewpoint, while trashing the other. Thats not 'delusional' thats reading your posts on this thread. Obama's first all-by-his-lonesome budget, btw, calls for a $1.17 trillion deficit. #30. To: Badeye (#29) You give one politician a pass on a bizzare religious viewpoint, while trashing the other. Reid is not using his religion, Angle is. I'm trashing her use of her religion in a political campaign, not her religion. Ping me when Reid starts claiming his candidacy is ordained by God.
#31. To: lucysmom (#30) Ping me when you can put down the kool aid. Obama's first all-by-his-lonesome budget, btw, calls for a $1.17 trillion deficit. #32. To: lucysmom (#30) (Edited) Ping me when Reid starts claiming his candidacy is ordained by God. How about one of the Founders?
It is impossible to rightly govern a nation without God and the Bible.--George Washington If I could, I would. #33. To: Ignore Amos (#32) How about one of the Founders? Apparently Washington didn't say that. This particular version is relatively modern. The statement appears to go back (through several permutations) to a claim made by an 1835 biographer on unknown authority. Supposedly George Washington said to a gentleman skeptical of the existence of a Supreme Being:

#34. To: lucysmom (#33) Your source is no more reliable than mine. That's the wonderful thing about the internet, huh? If I could, I would. #35. To: Ignore Amos (#34) Your source is no more reliable than mine. Usually I accept quotes offered by posters as valid without checking, however your quote attributed to Washington, just didn't ring true. However, assuming your quote attributed to Washington is accurate, It is impossible to rightly govern a nation without God and the Bible. is not the same as claiming one's candidacy is endorsed by God, Himself, which is what Angle does when she says she was called by God to run for office.
