Obama Wars Title: White House Successfully Puts Cap on Gusher of Unflattering Oil Spill Stories White House Successfully Puts Cap on Gusher of Unflattering Oil Spill Stories July 07, 2010 7:09 AM By Jim Geraghty In today’s Jolt, there’s a roundup of Arizona immigration law, Kentucky Senate race news, but also an update on that huge story that I try to feature at least one item on in every edition… The Oil Spill Won’t Disappear, but Discussion of Obama’s Response Might You thought I was being silly with this one-item-on-oil-every-morning rule, huh? ‘Oh, Jim, the oil spill is one of the biggest news stories in years. There’s no way it will disappear from the front page.’ Well, there was nothing about the spill on the front page of the New York Times on Tuesday. (There was a bottom of the page story on Wednesday.) About three weeks ago, Obama offered a speech that was widely panned, but that declared, “in the coming weeks and days, these efforts should capture up to 90 percent of the oil leaking out of the well.” How’s that coming? USA Today: “The renegade well is gushing between 35,000 and 60,000 barrels a day, and current containment systems are catching around 25,000 barrels a day, [Thad] Allen said.” That’s a chunk, but that’s less than half of the high end number. The president also declared, “make no mistake: We will fight this spill with everything we’ve got for as long as it takes… we must make a commitment to the Gulf Coast that goes beyond responding to the crisis of the moment.” Well, a search of Obama’s speeches on the Washington Post website reveals he has not said “BP”, “gulf” or “spill” since June 30. I realize there’s a national holiday in the past week, but it certainly is hard to believe this is still the top priority if he can go a week without even mentioning it. Back on May 27, he was insisting it was his top priority. It’s as if the entire country decided that the president had bombed in his speech, that the federal response was an immense disappointment, and that the coast was doomed…. and then moved on to more interesting topics. Post Comment Private Reply Ignore Thread Top • Page Up • Full Thread • Page Down • Bottom/Latest The Oil Spill Won’t Disappear, but Discussion of Obama’s Response Might From Day 1 the US/bp have been lying. Number 1 supplier of crude products to the Pentagon? british petroleum. Number 1 Planet Killer? The Pentagon. But british petroleum's doin' their best to catch up. " It’s as if the entire country decided that the president had bombed in his speech, that the federal response was an immense disappointment, and that the coast was doomed…. and then moved on to more interesting topics." And see, here's the hateful part. That the Bottom 90% are responsible for the 'move on' part of this. Like the rage against Anything bp is not happening. That it's us debt slaves who decide what the Corporations put on their MSM. And that Truth replaced by Silence is the fault of the Bottom 90% and not the Top 50 000 Households. The good news is that homo rapien's not going to outer space. Or to anywhere near 9 billion pop levels either.
#2. To: Badeye (#0) Why can't we get Sheppard Smith to head down to the coast and in his best pillow biter throwing a hissy fit persona start squealing, "why won't somebody do something"?

Good question, we all know he had a nervous breakdown after Katrina - literally. Day 78? Obama's first all-by-his-lonesome budget, btw, calls for a $1.17 trillion deficit. #4. To: Badeye (#3) we all know he had a nervous breakdown after Katrina - literally. What always got me about that is why he (and all these other hand wringing reporters who were down there with their camera and sound crews) couldn't have brought along a few cases of bottled water and sandwiches and passed them around if they were so concerned with these suffering people.
#5. To: no gnu taxes (#4) I had dinner and cocktails with a friend of mine thats been a reporter for the past 15 years in NOLA. The stories she told me about what went on in that first week are hilarious, and disturbing at the same time. She told Shep to 'stop being such a girl'...(laughing) Obama's first all-by-his-lonesome budget, btw, calls for a $1.17 trillion deficit. Top • Page Up • Full Thread • Page Down • Bottom/Latest |
