Los Angeles Times Columnist: Ann Coulter Is A "Pornographer" Posted by Dave Pierre on June 10, 2006 - 18:24. In his latest "Regarding Media" column in the Los Angeles Times (Sat. June 10, 2006), the perpetually clueless Tim Rutten claims that author Ann Coulter is a "pornographer" and her latest tome is "pornography" and "hate." ("Like most pornographers ... [Coulter] is resourceful in the service of her own economic and other interests.") In addition, Rutten expounds (emphases mine),

If you've ever encountered Coulter on television or glanced at one of her book covers — all of which feature a "glamour shot" photo — you've probably noticed that she's inevitably dressed in an improbably short and low-cut black dress. At a gaunt 45 years of age, you might think the ingénue with fangs shtick would be wearing rather thin. Still, it's always been true that a certain segment of pornography consumers derive an erotic charge from the trappings of hate. Black leather and relic Nazi paraphernalia, for example, have a kind of iconic status in the sadomasochistic subcultures inclined toward fetishism.

Is Rutten comparing Coulter's book to "black leather and relic Nazi paraphernalia"? Ugh. And, apparently, if I'm a purchaser of Ann Coulter's Godless, I'm part of the "sadomasochistic subcultures inclined toward fetishism"? Good grief.

Rutten's dim piece also appears to challenge the practice of "name calling," yet he's not shy to throw around some name calling of his own. In addition to plastering Coulter as a "pornographer" and an "ingénue with fangs," Rutten also attacks Fox's Bill O'Reilly as "the Diamond Jim Brady of televised epithets" (Diamond Jim Brady at Wikipedia).

Rutten's relentless record of liberal bias has been documented in several places, including here, here, here, here, here, here, and here. (Patterico is a must-read for followers of the LA Times.)

6/8/2006 It is a sad truism in the business of whoredom that someone younger, hotter, more hardcore is gonna come along and take away half the johns that the older skanks used to pleasure.

Publisher: Ann Coulter No Plagiarist

The latest media attack on Ann Coulter seems to be a desperate measure to undermine the credibility of one of America’s most prominent conservative voices.

Soon after her book "Godless: The Church of Liberalism” was released in June, Coulter made waves – Hillary accused her of being "heartless” and "vicious” -- for questioning the motives of four 9/11 widows.

With Coulter’s book topping the New York Times’ bestseller list, new allegations are surfacing that Coulter plagiarized material for her book and syndicated news columns.

But the publisher of Coulter’s book, Random House’s Crown imprint, has reviewed the plagiarism allegations and has found them to be baseless.

"We have reviewed the allegations of plagiarism surrounding ‘Godless’ and found them to be as trivial and meritless as they are irresponsible," said Steve Ross, Senior Vice President and Publisher of Crown Publishing Group.

Ross continued: "Any author is entitled to do what Ann Coulter has done in the three snippets cited: research and report facts. The number of words used by our author in these snippets is so minimal that there is no requirement for attribution. As an experienced author and attorney, Ms. Coulter knows when attribution is appropriate, as underscored by the nineteen pages of hundreds of endnotes contained in ‘Godless.’”

In the weeks after "Godless” came out, leftwing blogs began making claims that Coulter had engaged in plagiarism.

Apparently prompted by these reports, the New York Post asked a California firm to review Coulter’s writings with its iThenticate software, a program the checks databases to uncover plagiarism.

The syndicator of Coulter’s newspaper column, Universal Press Syndicate, is also investigating claims of plagiarism and should have a report out this coming week. Universal Press Syndicate has been under pressure for some time from liberal journalists and publications like Editor & Publisher to drop Coutler’s column.
