LOS ANGELES (AP) -- The Republican National Committee is assembling its biggest donors at a Napa Valley resort this week for golf, wine tasting and cigar smoking and speeches from former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani and other party stars.
An invitation says couples are being asked to contribute up to $60,800 to attend the three-day event that begins Thursday with a kickoff dinner featuring former Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff.
The event gives the party a chance to pamper its most generous givers, whose check-writing is crucial for the GOP to meet its fundraising goals for the 2010 elections.
