Barack Obama "I ceased to advertise my mother's race at the age of 12 or 13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites." "There was something about him that made me wary, a little too sure of himself, maybe. And white." It remained necessary to prove which side you were on, to show your loyalty to the black masses, to strike out and name names." "I never emulate white men and brown men whose fates didn't speak to my own. It was into my father's image, the black man, son of Africa, that I'd packed all the attributes I sought in myself, the attributes of Martin and Malcolm, Dubois and Mandela." "Of ...

Poll: Obama Widens Lead Among Hispanic Voters

President Obama has widened his already substantial lead over Mitt Romney among Hispanics, according to a Latino Decisions poll released on Wednesday. Obama takes 70 percent of the Hispanic vote, compared to Romney at 22. It’s the first time Obama has hit 70 percent in the poll, and the 48-point margin is the widest for the president so far, up from his June lead of 66 percent to 23. Last month, Obama announced that his administration would stop deporting illegal immigrants who come to the country at a young age and meet certain requirements. The directive is particularly popular among Hispanics, with more than 90 percent of those surveyed saying they’re in favor of the policy ...

Cantor-Backed Candidate Breezes Past Tea Party Favorite In North Carolina Primary

Establishment favorite and former Capitol Hill Chief of Staff Richard Hudson (R) easily dispatched Tea Party favorite Scott Keadle (R) in a House primary runoff Tuesday night, setting up what will likely be a hard-fought general election against Rep. Larry Kissell (D-N.C.). Hudson won with nearly two-thirds of the vote. He had the backing of House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) and House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), as well as the center-right outside group American Action Network and YG Action Fund, a super-PAC closely aligned with Cantor's interests. The two groups combined to spend almost $600,000 on the runoff. Keadle struggled to gain traction despite more ...

The Obama administration is breaking the laws of the land at such breakneck speed, it would make Tricky Dick Nixon and Scarface Al Capone blush. The latest? Slander against Mitt Romney and defying a nearly two-decades-old welfare reform law crafted by Bubba Clinton and a bi-partisan Congress. The Romney slander is further evidence that: 1) President Obama hasn't the remotest idea how business works; and 2) his campaign is desperately seeking to discuss anything besides his record. Romney's Bain Capital was in the private equity business - meaning it bought troubled firms that would otherwise "buy the farm" in order to fix them, thus saving the company and jobs. That ...

Sarah Palin: Romney Is Punishing Me For Criticizing Republicans
Post Date: 2012-07-17 15:52:05 by Brian S

Although the Republican National Convention is right around the corner, one conservative icon has yet to receive her invitation: Sarah Palin. According to Newsweek, the former Alaska governor and 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee says that she has yet to receive an invite to the nominating convention. “I’m sure I’m not the only one accepting consequences for calling out both sides of the aisle for spending too much money, putting us on the road to bankruptcy, and engaging in crony capitalism,” said Ms. Palin in an email response to Newsweek. “In accepting those consequences, one must remember this isn’t Sadie Hawkins and you don’t invite yourself and a ...

Ron Paul To Mitt Romney: Release Tax Returns
Post Date: 2012-07-17 12:58:54 by Brian S

Texas Rep. Ron Paul said Tuesday that Mitt Romney should release more of his tax returns, adding to the pressure on the GOP nominee to share personal financial information with the public. “Politically, I think that would help him,” the Republican congressman and former presidential candidate said in an interview with POLITICO. “In the scheme of things politically, you know, it looks like releasing tax returns is what the people want.” The Obama camp has been pummeling the former Massachusetts governor over his refusal to release more years of tax returns as a part of its larger effort to paint Romney as a wealthy businessman out of touch with the middle class. ...

Ron Paul’s Trouncing In Nebraska Puts Convention Coup Out Of Reach

Is it all over for Ron Paul? The Republican congressman from Texas has doggedly worked his way through the GOP primary/caucus season, unwavering in his conservative-libertarian message, steadily picking up delegates to the August convention as his enthusiastic and loyal supporters turn out in droves to cheer him on.But in his last chance to be nominated at the Republican convention in Tampa, Rep. Paul failed. What would have been a highly-visible event at the venue where Mitt Romney (who garnered the necessary 1,144 delegates two months ago) almost certainly will be nominated, will not happen. At the GOP state convention in Nebraska on Saturday, Mr. Paul didn’t win enough delegates to ...

George H. W. Bush: ‘Who The Hell Is Grover Norquist, Anyway?’

Former President George H.W. Bush addressed criticism from Grover Norquist, the head of Americans for Tax Reform, regarding his “no new tax” pledge at the 1988 Republican National Convention. Mr. Bush has taken criticism throughout the years from Republicans and Democrats for famously stating that he would not raise taxes, and then going on to raise taxes during his term in the White House. The former Republican president’s new interview with Parade Magazine includes references from Mr. Bush asking who Grover Norquist is, disregarding his signing of a no new taxes pledge with Mr. Norquist in 1987. “I think we had an honorable administration. We were relatively ...

Ron Paul: My Supporters Wouldn’t Be Okay With Condoleezza Rice

Texas Congressman Ron Paul believes that it would be a terrible decision for presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney to select Condoleezza Rice as his running mate. Speculation about Ms. Rice’s future with the GOP skyrocketed after the Drudge Report listed the former Bush administration official as Governor Romney’s top vice presidential candidate. ABC News says that the Drudge Report’s list is especially noteworthy because there are ties between Matt Drudge and several Romney staffers. Rumors about Ms. Rice’s future with the GOP have been increasing in number over the last few months, as the Romney campaign continues to vet potential running mates for ...

Bill Kristol: Romney ‘Crazy’ Not To Release Tax Returns

Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol on Sunday called on presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney to follow in his father’s footsteps and release more than just one or two years of tax returns. “He should release the tax returns tomorrow,” the neoconservative pundit told Fox News’ Brit Hume. “It’s crazy. You’ve got to release six, eight, ten years back tax returns.” “Take the hit for a day or two,” Kristol recommended. “He has to give a big speech in defense of capitalism, and that will elevate, I think, this race above this tactical back in forth, which I do think he’s on the margin of losing.” In a series of ...

LOL: Adviser Claims Romney ‘Retired Retroactively’ From Bain

A senior adviser for Mitt Romney says that President Barack Obama will “say or do anything” to keep his job, including accusing the presumptive Republican presidential candidate of being in charge of Bain Capital when they helped send American jobs to China and other countries. Ed Gillespie on Sunday lashed out at the Obama campaign for suggesting that Romney either lied to voters or broke the law when he said he retired from Bain in 1999, even though Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) documents listed him as the “sole stockholder, chairman of the board, chief executive officer, and president” until 2002. “He’s not a felon,” Gillespie insisted to ...

Paulistas Squashed In Win For Romney, Heineman

GRAND ISLAND -- The effort by Ron Paul supporters to gain control of Nebraska's delegation to the Republican national convention was squashed Saturday in a rout that left Paul with only two pledged delegates in the state's 35-member contingent. The outcome of delegate selection balloting at the Republican state convention represented a big victory for Gov. Dave Heineman, who worked actively behind the scenes to personally contact Nebraska Republicans who made the delegate selections. Heineman was the first governor to endorse Mitt Romney at the advent of the GOP presidential primary and caucus process, and his ability to deliver Romney delegates from his home state -- as well as ...

Alabama’s GOP Governor Calls On Romney To Release More Tax Returns: “If you have things to hide, then maybe you’re doing things wrong,”

In a series of interviews yesterday, Mitt Romney mainatined he would only release tax returns dating back two years. Romney told CNN, “that’s all that’s necessary for people to understand something about my finances.” Robert Bently, the Republican Governor of Alabama, isn’t satisfied. The AP has the story: Pressure was building on Romney from within his own party to be more forthcoming with his finances, a day after he declared he would not release past income tax returns beyond his 2010 tax records and, before the November election, his 2011 taxes. On the sidelines of the National Governors Association meeting in Williamsburg, Alabama’s Republican governor, ...

Sarah Palin: Rice’s Pro-Choice Stance Is Not Relevant For VP Consideration

The speculation surrounding presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney’s running mate continues to build. Sarah Palin, the GOP’s 2008 vice presidential nominee, continues to keep former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice’s name on the mind of political pundits, despite the latter having already categorically denied any interest in the nomination. The former Alaska governor, speaking to Greta Van Sustren on Fox News said that Ms. Rice “would be a wonderful vice president.” “She has much more experience than our sitting President does today,” Ms. Palin continued. Ms. Palin is not the only voice calling for Mr. Romney to nominate the former ...

Refusing to Apologize, Obama Renews Attacks on Romney’s Business Record

GLEN ALLEN, Va. — President Obama refused to apologize to Mitt Romney on Saturday, barnstorming through this swing state as his aides continued their attacks by releasing a new television ad that mockingly shows Mr. Romney singing “America the Beautiful.” Mr. Obama, speaking to a drenched crowd during a downpour in this Richmond suburb, accused Mr. Romney of investing in “companies that have been called pioneers in outsourcing.” He ignored the demands for an apology about the campaign’s tone that Mr. Romney had called for in interviews on Friday. “My opponent and his allies in Congress, they believe in top-down economics,” Mr. Obama said. “If ...

The GOP’s Crush on Condoleezza Rice

The Condoleezza Rice mirage is back. With a banner headline on the Drudge Report on Thursday night proclaiming her a leading prospect for the vice presidency, Rice has returned to a familiar role: the irresistible, all-too-perfect fantasy candidate of the Republican Party. Never mind the fact that there are glaring reasons why the former secretary of state could be a political fiasco. She’s an abortion rights-supporting former Bush administration official who has never run for public office and whose time in Washington is remembered less than fondly by many. But as the highest-ranking African-American woman ever to serve in public office — and one of few black leaders the ...

The Army has revoked the Special Forces military occupational specialty of an Arkansas political candidate who claimed he served as a Green Beret in Iraq and Afghanistan. Kenneth Aden, a Democrat running against incumbent Rep. Steve Womack for Arkansas' 3rd District, has said in interviews he served tours in Iraq and Afghanistan as a Green Beret, though a DD-214 and other documents he released to substantiate the claim only raised questions. In a statement Tuesday, a spokeswoman for the Special Warfare Training Center at Fort Bragg, N.C., said Aden was dropped from Special Forces training in April 2008 "after failing twice to pass the Light Weapons Exam and Hands-on Mortar ...

Obama Campaign: ‘Severe Consequences’ If Romney Committed Felony With Bain Lies

Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney may be guilty of federal felony if he lied to the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) about when he ceded control of Bain Capital, President Barack Obama’s campaign suggested on Thursday. The Boston Globe reported on Thursday that SEC documents showed that Romney continued to serve as Bain’s “sole stockholder, chairman of the board, chief executive officer, and president” until 2002 — even though he has repeatedly claimed that he left the company in 1999. In an attempt to defend against claims that Romney was Bain’s CEO during the period that the company invested in firms that moved American jobs to ...

Obama Gains Advantage Over Romney on Economy in Pew Poll

President Barack Obama has gained an advantage over Republican Mitt Romney in a Pew Research Center poll of public confidence in handling of the economy. Obama leads Romney by 50 percent to 43 percent among registered voters surveyed, Pew reports, with the Republican Party’s presumed presidential nominee losing 3 percentage points since its previous poll in early June. Public opinion on which candidate would do a better job of improving economic conditions has shifted from an advantage for Romney in Pew’s June survey to support for Obama in the latest survey of 2,373 registered voters conducted June 28-July 9. “Romney has not seized the advantage as the candidate best able ...

Mitt Romney Stayed At Bain 3 Years Longer Than He Stated...He Said He Left In 1999

Government documents filed by Mitt Romney and Bain Capital say Romney remained chief executive and chairman of the firm three years beyond the date he said he ceded control, even creating five new investment partnerships during that time. Romney has said he left Bain in 1999 to lead the winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, ending his role in the company. But public Securities and Exchange Commission documents filed later by Bain Capital state he remained the firm’s “sole stockholder, chairman of the board, chief executive officer, and president.” Also, a Massachusetts financial disclosure form Romney filed in 2003 states that he still owned 100 percent of Bain Capital in 200 ...

Is Mitt Romney Too Rich For The White House?
Post Date: 2012-07-11 22:52:52 by Brian S

With Americans facing a frustratingly slow economic recovery, Republican candidate Mitt Romney’s millions - and the way he made them - could be the biggest obstacle standing between him and the presidency. American writer John Steinbeck allegedly said: “Socialism never took root in America because the poor see themselves not as an exploited proletariat, but as temporarily embarrassed millionaires.” A Gallup poll last May suggested that theory may be true; 63% of Americans think the US benefits from having a rich class, and the same number say they would like to be wealthy. Republican candidate Mitt Romney’s personal fortune should therefore not be a stumbling block in ...

The survey released today shows Obama with 46 percent support, Romney with 43 percent. Single women favor Obama over Romney, 60 percent to 31 percent. The president is benefiting from a “marriage gap” that may be related to social issues, said Peter Brown, assistant director of the Hamden, Connecticut-based Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. Unmarried people overall favor Obama 54 percent to 34 percent, while married people back Romney 51 ...

Haley Barbour: ‘Romney Is Smart’ Not To Lay Out Policies

Former Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour (R) on Sunday said that GOP hopeful Mitt Romney was “smart” not to give voters specifics about how he would govern if elected president of the United States. During an interview on CBS, host Bob Schieffer asked Barbour if it was going to take more for Romney to win than simply saying, “Let’s get rid of Barack Obama.” “At the end of the day, Mitt Romney also has to give people something to vote for,” Barbour admitted. “I think that is more a matter of timing.” “I think right now Romney is smart to wait before he starts laying out proposal after proposal, but he ultimately will.” Politico recently ...

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Several electronic road construction signs around Anchorage were hacked late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning, according to the state Department of Transportation.Signs that normally display closure and detour information, like the one on Minnesota Drive near 100th Avenue, were changed to read “Impeach Obama.” That particular sign wasn’t fixed until sometime between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. Thursday. It happened because DOT says it doesn't lock the boxes on the signs that hold the message control pad.Construction managers say sign-hacking has never happened before, so they never thought to lock the boxes.DOT says that changed this morning, and ...
