Let’s start by getting all of the caveats out of the way about misinterpreting the results of the special House election that Democrat Kathy Hochul just won in Western New York. There were local issues at work that mean nothing outside of the Buffalo area. There was a third candidate in the race -- a one-time Democrat who ran under the Tea Party banner -- whose presence probably hurt the Republican candidate, Jane Corwin, more than it hurt Hochul (although the disparity is probably not nearly as severe as Republicans will claim). And there was probably a basic difference in candidate quality: Hochul was easier to like and seemed to run a better campaign than Corwin. All of these ...

FACTUAL news accounts will be acceptable - regardless of content, but as currently is the case, I will delete hit pieces, scandals without facts, and hate-filled unprovable gossip about her. The Left-wing media will go NUTS if she runs, and we can expect countless hit- pieces on her. I will be deleting them unless from a reputable news source, and with provable facts. NOT unbased allegations. She's going to get a FAIR chance on this website, to state her case, and her political posititions....without the Media static to drown her out. Herman Cain: Muslim comments 'misconstrued'

Herman Cain wants to correct the record: He would consider a Muslim for his cabinet or as a federal judge if he’s elected president. Cain’s clarification comes two months after he initially said he wouldn’t have any Muslim appointees, stoking controversy and criticism from a leading Muslim advocacy group. “That statement is not what I said. It has been misconstrued,” Cain told Glenn Beck on his radio show Tuesday. Asked in March if he would consider putting a Muslim in a top position, the Atlanta businessman told the liberal blog Think Progress he wouldn’t. “And here’s why: There’s this creeping attempt, there’s this attempt to ...

Question: If Newt Gingrich, Tim Pawlenty and Mitt Romney were on a sinking ship, who would be saved? Answer: America. Cruel. Very cruel. But it may set the tone for the 2012 race. The last time a Democratic president ran for reelection was Bill Clinton in 1996. And the press was careful to portray Bob Dole as a credible opponent. He was not. Though an often nice guy and a highly skilled legislator, he was a disaster on the stump, and Clinton crushed him in a three-way race. The media will be a little more savvy about campaign skills this time around. Tim Pawlenty, who announced for the Republican presidential nomination on Monday, has already said, “I’m not running for ...

Jeremy Giefer, accused child molester, got Pawlenty pardon to open childcare center

Jeremy Giefer, the sex offender now accused of molesting his daughter, was pardoned by Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty. 43;Jeremy Giefer served time in jail in 1994 for having sex with a 14-year-old girl. But you wouldn't know it to look at the record of the man now charged with sexually molesting his daughter more than 250 times over the last eight years. That's because two years ago, Gov. Tim Pawlenty, Attorney General Lori Swanson, and then-Chief Justice Eric Magnuson unanimously voted to wipe Giefer's record clean, granting him a pardon extraordinary. One reason Giefer wanted his record cleared? His wife wanted to open a childcare center in the house where they live--the ...

The former House speaker told a room of journalists Monday morning that he won’t allow the press to pin him down on every detail of his political and personal record, saying twice that he has cast over 7,300 votes, given more than 5,000 speeches and over 10,000 interviews, produced several films and written some two dozen books. “All of you who want to play ‘gotcha,’” Gingrich said, “I’ll go to the next question.” Gingrich then proceeded to confirm that he is himself on Medicare, defend his involvement in a 2009 special congressional election, cite a documentary about national security he co-produced with his wife, reveal partial details of his ...

Pressed on what he bought for $500,000 at Tiffany's, Republican presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich on Sunday refused to answer, saying, "It's my private life." "I'm a guy running for president who pays all his bills," Gingrich said on CBS News' "Face the Nation." Gingrich, repeatedly clearing his throat, declined to say how he managed to run up such a big tab at the luxury jeweler. And he said the matter should in no way impugn his fiscal acumen. "We are private citizens. I work very hard. We have a reasonably good income," Gingrich said of he and wife, Callista. "I currently owe nothing except I owe one mortgage on a house ...

Voters unhappy with Congress

WASHINGTON — Americans switched control of the House of Representatives to Republicans this year, but a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds they remain as unhappy as they have ever been with Capitol Hill. By more than 2-1, voters say most members of Congress don't deserve re-election, matching a historic low from last spring. Twenty-eight percent say most members should get another term in office; 63% say most should be replaced. Last year, dismay with Congress fueled the conservative Tea Party movement and cost Democrats their hold on the House. The levels of discontent are higher than they were just before elections in 1994, 2006 and 2010, years when control changed hands. The ...

Newt Gingrich's walk back tour reached its zenith Tuesday night, as Gingrich personally apologized to Paul Ryan for dismissing his Medicare plan as "right wing social engineering." In an added twist, Gingrich claims that the merest mention of his extensive condemnation of Ryan's budget from Sunday's Meet The Press by Democrats is now out of bounds as a result. "Any ad which quotes what I said on Sunday is a falsehood, because I have said publicly those words were inaccurate and unfortunate," he told FOX's Greta Van Susteren. ""When I make a mistake, and I'm going to on occasion, I'm going to share with the American people that was a ...

Donald Trump's Legacy: Would You Buy a Used Apartment From This Man?

Donald Trump is out, but the memory of the Trump-for-President era will, I hope, live on. We've learned a lot. The public, for instance, has been educated to understand that you can't trust a thing the guy says. "I maintain the strong conviction that if I were to run, I would be able to win the primary and ultimately, the general election," Trump said in a statement. Is it possible he really believes that? If so, would you buy a used apartment building from this man? The Trump presidential campaign should go down in history as a huge warning sign for other rich, high-profile jerks who think they can notch their name recognition up to even more astronomic levels by ...

Speaker of the House John Boehner wipes his eye during the ceremony unveiling a statue of former President Gerald Ford in the Rotunda of the U.S. Capitol in Washington May 3, 2011. This John Boehner was not the John Boehner that Tea Party leaders in the room thought they knew. Compared to the Boehner who talked tough on spending ahead of last November's elections, the one who showed up at Club 55, just off Interstate 75 in Troy in southwestern Ohio, struck them as timid. The private April 25 meeting was convened by the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives at the request of Tea Party leaders, who were seething over recent Republican compromises, most notably on the 2011 ...

Thousands gather at Capitol to ‘keep the pressure on’ Walker

Thousands of protesters massed at the Capitol on Saturday in an effort to show that outrage over Gov. Scott Walker’s budget proposals is not dead, three months after he unveiled his plan to curtail collective bargaining rights for public workers. On a chilly and drizzly May day, a crowd gathered on the Capitol lawn and pooled out into State Street, listening to speakers urge them to keep up the fight against Walker’s policies. Snip But the protest showed emotion is still high over Walker’s plan to limit collective bargaining rights, even though he signed the bill into law in early March. It has not yet been implemented because of court challenges. Click for Full Text!

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin officials say the protests at the Capitol over public workers' collective bargaining rights cost more than $7.8 million for police, but that damage to the Capitol will only cost about $270,000. Department of Administration officials say the police cost is based on claims from more than 200 police departments and other state agencies. Thirty-two police agencies have not yet submitted claims. DOA officials also say a Capitol damage report found that protesters only caused "3-5 years of wear" on the building in the course of two weeks. About $112,000 should be spent repairing damage to stonework. The figure is far lower than DOA Secretary ...

GOP seeks to repeal limits on payday lenders, auto title loans

Madison — Loans secured with auto titles would again be legal in Wisconsin under a proposal adopted Thursday by the Legislature's budget committee that also rolls back other restrictions on payday loans. The Joint Finance Committee voted without debate 11-5 to add the proposal to the state budget, with all Republicans except Sen. Glenn Grothman (R-West Bend) voting for the proposal and all Democrats voting against it. Democrats passed a bill last year that limits payday loans to a maximum of $1,500. Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle toughened the bill, using his partial veto powers to ban loans secured by vehicle titles. The committee's action would end that ban on auto title ...

One of American politics’ most comforting nostrums is the notion that we always are united by far more than what divides us. It’s a sentiment Barack Obama repeats frequently in his speeches, and both the president and California Gov. Jerry Brown are relying on it to help them move toward resolution of government’s worst budgetary crisis in generations. A comprehensive new survey of the American electorate by the nonpartisan Pew Research Center, however, indicates that the most politically engaged Americans now are fundamentally opposed to compromise, divided on virtually every basic national question and separated from each other by everything from their race to the choice ...

Raleigh, N.C. – If there were any question that President Obama’s release of his longform birth certificate two weeks ago effectively ended Donald Trump’s brief 15 minutes at the top of the Republican presidential heap, PPP’s latest national survey of Republican primary voters shows that Trump has fallen from first place by nine points in last month’s poll to a tie for fifth, barely ahead of the seventh-place candidate. In April, PPP found Trump with sole possession of the lead for Republican voters’ preferences for the nomination. He topped Mike Huckabee 26-17. But now Huckabee is back in a narrow lead with 19% to Mitt Romney’s 18%, Newt Gingrich’s ...

For the first time in Gallup history, more Republicans than Democrats support a new third major political party, according to a new Gallup survey. Fifty-two percent of Republicans say they support a third party because the two major parties do such "a poor job" of representing the people. Just 33 percent of Democrats felt similarly--and, as expected, self-described independents were the most forceful backers of a third party, with 68 percent indicating support. Gallup reports this is the first time "a significantly higher percentage of Republicans than Democrats" favor a third party. The poll suggests that tea party supporters are driving this change: Sixty percent of ...

WASHINGTON (AP) — Fox News Channel has ended the contracts of on-air contributors Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum as the two former lawmakers explore White House bids.
