Obama Lead Over Romney Grows Among Jewish Voters
Post Date: 2012-09-16 14:28:42 by Brian S

Among Jewish voters, President Barack Obama's lead over Republican challenger Mitt Romney is growing, according to recent unreleased Gallup daily tracking poll data reported on Buzzfeed.com. According to the polling data culled between July 1 and September 10, 70 percent of registered Jewish voters planned to vote for President Obama. Only 25 percent of voters said they were planning to vote for Mitt Romney, with 5 percent undecided. These results indicate a decline from earlier this spring, when 64 percent of registered Jewish voters said they would vote for Obama and 29 percent said they would support his Republican contender. The data Buzzfeed.com obtained from Democratic sources ...

Poster Comment:I just got the first political phone poll call today I have received in years. The question and options presented were: 1: "If you plan on voting for Barack Obama, press 1" (which leads me to believe it was a Dim poll) 2: "If you plan on voting for Mitt Romney, press 2" 3: "If you plan on voting for a 3rd Party candidate, press 3" I pressed 3,and they hung up on me.

Purged Florida Voters to Be Returned to Voting Rolls, State Says
Post Date: 2012-09-14 11:06:26 by Brian S

Florida residents erroneously purged from voter rolls after being identified as non-citizens will be able to cast ballots in the November election, the state said. Florida’s Department of State said yesterday it will alert voters who were improperly removed, or wrongly told they would be removed, that they can vote. The government’s announcement followed a legal complaint by civil rights and other groups objecting to the purge. The state originally identified more than 2,600 potential non-citizens on the rolls at the direction of Republican Governor Rick Scott. Of those, it has found about 207 voters who are non- citizens and shouldn’t be allowed to cast ballots, said Chris ...

Obama Leads Romney in Poll of Florida, Ohio and Virginia

Continuing his post-convention bounce in surveys, President Barack Obama led Republican rival Mitt Romney in three key swing states, Florida, Ohio and Virginia, in a poll released yesterday. The NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist College survey of likely voters gave Obama a 49 percent to 44 percent edge over Romney in both Florida and Virginia, and a 50 percent to 43 percent edge in Ohio, which a Republican has never won the White House without carrying. “We’re seeing the effects of the Democratic convention in these numbers and we’ll see whether he’s able to sustain it,” said Lee Miringoff, director of the Marist College Institute for Public Opinion in ...

Could Virgil Goode Win Virginia for Barack Obama?
Post Date: 2012-09-14 10:52:26 by Brian S

If Mitt Romney loses Virginia, Virgil Goode says it won't be his fault -- and, should the unlikely presidential bid by the state's former congressman siphon enough votes to hand the commonwealth to President Obama, Goode doesn't seem too worried about it anyway. "The assumption that they're all from Romney is incorrect," Goode said, maintaining that not all of the people who might vote for him will be erstwhile Romney supporters, effectively stealing from the vote total of the Republican Party's presidential candidate. "The guy that runs the service station right near my house said, 'Virgil, if you get on the ballot, I'm going to vote for you, and ...

“Libya Surprise” Could Be Death Knell for Romney Campaign
Post Date: 2012-09-13 17:50:16 by Brian S

Harold Wilson, who was Prime Minister of Britain twice, in the sixties and seventies, famously said a week is a long time in politics. Sometimes, so is a day. This time yesterday, the conventional wisdom, faithfully trotted out by yours truly among many, was that Obama was coasting to victory in a Presidential sweepstakes that was threatening to peter out in tedium. So much for that. After last night’s “September surprise,” Obama is still home free, and Mitt Romney is still trailing. In fact, this might well be the death knell for his campaign. But what an uproar. Romney’s attempt to exploit the violent anti-U.S. demonstrations in Egypt and Libya to portray Obama as ...

Mitch McConnell Hires Ron Paul’s Campaign Manager

The Ron Paul campaign team is being swallowed up by the mainstream Republican Party, one staffer at a time. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has hired Paul’s campaign manager, Jesse Bentonm, to run his 2014 re-election campaign, the senator announced Thursday. This follows the Republican National Committee’s hiring of Paul’s former spokesman, Gary Howard, in late June. “We’re committed to running a presidential-level campaign in Kentucky and that starts with a presidential campaign manager,” McConnell said in a prepared statement. “Jesse is literally the best in the business at building and organizing conservative grassroots movements and I’m ...

3 Ron Paul-Supporting Electoral College Members May Pass On Romney

At least three Republican electors say they may not support their party's presidential ticket when the Electoral College meets in December to formally elect the next president, escalating tensions within the GOP and adding a fresh layer of intrigue to the final weeks of the White House race. The electors - all supporters of former GOP presidential candidate Ron Paul - told The Associated Press they are exploring options should Mitt Romney win their states. They expressed frustration at how Republican leaders have worked to suppress Paul's conservative movement and his legion of loyal supporters. "They've never given Ron Paul a fair shot, and I'm disgusted with that. ...

Ohio Governor At Romney Rally: Our Wives Are At Home Doing Laundry

Republican Gov. John Kasich of Ohio said Wednesday at a Romney campaign rally that his wife was at home doing laundry while he gave political speeches. “You know, Jane Portman, Karen Kasich, and Janna Ryan, they operate an awful lot of the time in the shadows,” he said in Owensville, referring to the wife of Ohio Sen. Rob Portman, his own wife, and the wife of Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan, respectively. “It’s not easy to be a spouse of an elected official,” Kasich continued. “You know, they’re at home, doing the laundry and doing so many things while we’re up here on the stage getting applause, right? They don’t often share in it. And it is hard for ...

Romney Avoids Explanations of How to Pay for Campaign Promises

Mitt Romney promised that if elected president he’d create 12 million jobs, replace Barack Obama’s health-care law and the Dodd-Frank financial overhaul, slash corporate tax rates, keep George W. Bush’s income-tax cuts and then cut an added 20 percent while balancing the budget. The Republican presidential nominee isn’t saying how he’d pull off this feat of budgetary magic. All presidential hopefuls paint rosy scenarios and rely on a few questionable assumptions. Yet with less than two months to go until Election Day, Romney’s campaign has distinguished itself by the chasm between what’s been promised and what’s been revealed. Absent details, ...

Romney’s Libya Response Fuels Foreign Policy Doubts
Post Date: 2012-09-13 10:42:43 by Brian S

It was supposed to be a clear-eyed rebuke of the sitting president’s approach to a foreign-policy crisis. Instead, Mitt Romney’s criticism of President Barack Obama’s handling of the attacks in Egypt and Libya that led to the death of a U.S. ambassador yesterday fueled questions -- even among his allies -- about the Republican presidential nominee’s inexperience on national security as his campaign is pushing to gain traction by refocusing on jobs and the economy. Obama, in a television interview, said Romney “seems to have a tendency to shoot first, aim later,” and called the episode a “broader lesson” about being commander in chief. “As ...

Poll: U.S. Satisfaction Triples In Year
Post Date: 2012-09-12 16:33:51 by Brian S

The number of Americans satisfied with the country’s direction has nearly tripled over the past year, but a majority of them remain upset with where the United States is headed, according to a poll released Wednesday. Three-in-ten Americans, or 30 percent, are very satisfied or somewhat satisfied, a Gallup poll found. That number is dwarfed by the 68 percent who are unhappy, including 41 percent who described themselves as very dissatisfied. But there’s a positive trend: A year ago, only 11 percent of Americans were satisfied or somewhat satisfied, while 88 percent said they were dissatisfied. In February 2009, shortly after President Barack Obama’s inauguration, only 15 ...

Chuck Todd: Romney ‘Outrageous’ And ‘Irresponsible’ For Politicizing U.S. Deaths In Libya
Post Date: 2012-09-12 11:24:42 by Brian S

MSNBC hosts Chuck Todd and Lawrence O’Donnell say that Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney miscalculated badly when he decided to attack President Barack Obama for “sympathizing” with the enemy after the deaths of U.S. ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens and at least three members of his staff. In the hours before the protest in Benghazi that left Stevens dead, the U.S. State Department had released a statement over a film that mocked the Prophet Muhammad. That film, “Innocence of Muslims,” had been recently given Arabic subtitles and promoted by Terry Jones, a U.S. pastor who had previously sparked deadly riots threatening to burn Qurans. “The Embassy ...

A Democratic Convention delegate from New York is reportedly under investigation by the Secret Service after she told a reporter at the convention that she would like to "kill" GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney, according to ABC News. The delegate, Julia Rodriguez, was captured in a video by Glenn Beck's conservative website, the Blaze, Rodriguez explains that she was born in Puerto Rico, saying she believes "Romney will destroy this country" and that she "would like to kill him" if she sees him. Secret Service spokesman George Ogilvie told reporters that  they were "aware of it" and "taking the appropriate follow-up steps.” ...

Gop's Ryan To Go Up With TV Ads...For House Seat

HUDSON, Wis. (AP) -- Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan plans to begin airing ads in Wisconsin as he asks voters to elect him to an eighth House term that he hopes to never serve. Contracts formalized Tuesday with at least one Milwaukee television station show that Ryan's congressional ads will start airing Wednesday morning and go initially for two weeks. The Ryan congressional ads start in the same week as presidential ticket mate Mitt Romney's commercials went on air in Wisconsin, although the cost for the two sets of ads are drawn from different campaign accounts. Wisconsin law allows Ryan to seek both offices simultaneously but only serve in one if he wins the ...

Raised Baptist, she is convinced -- despite all evidence to the contrary -- that President Barack Obama, a practicing Christian, is Muslim. So in this year's presidential election, will she support Mitt Romney? Not a chance. Mitt Romney: I Like Parts Of Obamacare, Would Keep Them In Place; Paul Ryan Won't Reveal Tax Loopholes To Be Sealed

GOP vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan insists it’s not a “secret plan.” But both he and Mitt Romney refused Sunday to identify any of the tax loopholes they would close to help balance the budget. Both men were asked to be specific during interviews on morning news shows, but they declined to name a single tax-credit or deduction. Instead, they repeated their insistence that the tax changes would target high-income families and spare the middle class. On ABC’s “This Week,” Ryan argued that the campaign is keeping the details under wraps in the spirit of openness. “What we don’t want is a secret plan,” the Wisconsin congressman said. ...

GOP Should Dump Craig Romney’s Hopeless Hispandering And Appeal To Hispanics As Americans

Today’s major party conventions are massive propaganda productions [1], carefully planned to appeal to target demographics. The Democrats fielded several of what they obviously regard as Hispanic superstars: Antonio Villaraigosa [2]—Los Angeles mayor and unrepentant MEChA alumnus [3].  Benita Veliz [4]—Dream Act activist and a real live illegal alien. [5]Julian Castro [6]—San Antonio mayor and keynote speaker, improbably being peddled as the Hispanic Obama.Rep Luis Gutierrez [7] (D-IL), who once notoriously proclaimed [8] “I have only one loyalty, and that’s to the immigrant community” i.e. get lost, Americans. Oh, and one of the delegates was Julia ...

Plouffe: Ryan Running From Defense Cuts Vote As Fast As His ‘Fictitional Marathon’

White House senior adviser David Plouffe on Sunday chastised Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan for backing away from his earlier support of defense cuts, saying the Wisconsin congressman “was running away from them with the kind of pace he ran in that fictitional marathon.” Although Ryan voted for a deal that would have triggered significant cuts to defense, he has recently criticized the sequestration plan. During an interview on Sunday, CBS host Chief White House Correspondent Norah O’Donnell asked Ryan why he was “criticizing the president for those same defense cuts you’re voting for and called a victory.” “I have to correct on you ...

10 Rankest Hypocrisies of Mitt Romney and the Republican Party
Post Date: 2012-09-09 19:22:20 by Brian S

Modern Republicans give us an opportunity to peer into the soul of a party that has embraced an open aversion to the truth. Meanwhile, their hypocrisy has reached historic proportions. It’s as if they have lost the ability to recognize the obvious contradictions they put forth. Or, more likely, they just don’t care, since lies and hypocrisy are an efficient way to score political points and smear opponents. The hyper-hypocrisy of today’s GOP has spread through the party’s bloodstream. Below is a sampling of the most recent examples of rank right-wing hypocrisy. 1. Romney has promised that his first action on day one of a Romney administration would be to repeal ...

State Of The Race: Advantage, Obama
Post Date: 2012-09-09 11:52:35 by Brian S

President Barack Obama heads out of the national political conventions with a much clearer path to winning, top advisers to Mitt Romney privately concede. The Romney campaign, while pleasantly surprised by Obama’s lackluster prime-time performance, said the post-convention bounce they hoped for fell well short of expectations and privately lament that state-by-state polling numbers — most glaringly in Ohio — are working in the president’s favor. “Their map has many more routes to victory,” said a top Republican official. Two officials intimately involved in the GOP campaign said Ohio leans clearly in Obama’s favor now, with a high single-digit edge, ...

Obama Widens Lead Over Romney Despite Jobs Data: Reuters/Ipsos Poll

(Reuters) - President Barack Obama, picking up support following the Democratic National Convention, widened his narrow lead over Republican U.S. presidential challenger Mitt Romney in a new Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Saturday. The latest daily tracking poll showed Obama, a Democrat, with a lead of 4 percentage points over Romney. Forty-seven percent of 1,457 likely voters surveyed online over the previous four days said they would vote for Obama if the November 6 elections were held today, compared with 43 percent for Romney. "The bump is actually happening. I know there was some debate whether it would happen... but it's here," said Ipsos pollster Julia Clark, ...

Obama Bounces Up to 52% Approval, 48% to 45% Over Romney

President Barack Obama and the Democratic Party look as if they are getting at least a preliminary bounce from their convention. Today's (Friday, Sept. 7) Gallup Daily tracking update puts Obama's job approval rating at 52%, the highest it has been since May 2011, after the killing of Osama bin Laden. Obama has also moved to a 48% to 45% lead over Mitt Romney among registered voters in the election tracking, up from Obama's 47% to 46% margin over the last nine days.  Gallup averages the job approval rating on a three-day rolling average, meaning that today's report encompasses interviewing conducted over the three days of the Democratic Convention in Charlotte -- ...
