10 People Who Give Christianity a Bad Name Christianity has been around for two thousand years and, for the most part, it has preached a good message by which to live. But unfortunately, as with all organized bodies, many people claiming to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ have shown themselves to behave quite opposite to the message it espouses. This list looks at 10 of the worst. 10 - Sun Myung Moon Moon Senate CrownedmessiahHe is the founder of the Unification Church, which has become worldwide since its origin in 1954. Moon was born in 1920, and has set himself up at the reincarnation of Jesus Christ. A lot of people go around saying, Im Jesus, but they are ...

I am extremely delighted to attend this inter faith seminar on the Preservation of Religious Harmony, Coexistence and Universal Peace organised by the International Association for Religious Freedom (IARF), Ladakh group. Thank you very much for the detailed explanation of the association's history, activities, objectives and their relevance in the present century. I have nothing to add on what the speakers said earlier. But I would like to say a few things.

The Closed Mind
Why does it close, and how does it open?
Each of us knows at least one person whom we would say has a closed mind. Bias, bigotry, misogyny, xenophobia, and homophobia are all examples of closed- mindedness. When one’s mind is made up, there is no changing it. But there are other forms of closed-mindedness—for example, religious fundamentalism (regardless of the particular religion) is also a form of closed-mindedness. Fundamentally, what closed-mindedness does is shut out the possibility of original thinking.
The closed-minded person is not allowed to question her own beliefs. Such questioning allows a person to center on her own authentic self and to come to ...
The Credibility Crisis of Today’s Pastors
Post Date: 2020-04-21 17:15:14 by Gatlin
The Credibility Crisis of Todays Pastors The good news: Most people dont dislike pastors. The bad news: They just dont really care about pastors either. In Barnas The State of Pastors report, produced in partnership with Pepperdine University, the reception of pastors was generally lukewarm. One-quarter of all U.S. adults (24%) holds a very positive opinion of pastors in general. Meanwhile, roughly the same proportion reports a negative opinion (28% somewhat + very negative). Similarly, one-quarter of the population has little regard for the pastoral influence in their city or neighborhood (23% not very + not at all ...

Poster Comment:You *especially* do not have to be a Christian to appreciate this testimony of Alexandra. Please give it a listen. Alexandra grew up in a "Fundie" home, had to deal with chronic illness, rejected the rigidity and hypocrisy of her parents, was rejected by her peers and family, became an Atheist, explored her spirituality and sought truth. There is something for all to relate to.

The rightwing Christian preachers in deep denial over Covid-19's danger The rightwing Christian preachers in deep denial over Covid-19's danger A number of American religious leaders have endangered their flock by holding services and by claiming the virus can be defeated by faith in God Last Sunday in Tampa, Florida, the Pentecostal pastor and conspiracy theorist Rodney Howard-Browne conducted two services for full houses at his River church. The closely packed audience spent hours together taking in hymns and Howard- Brownes extended sermon, even as the state implemented quarantine for New Yorkers, and projections estimated that Floridas coronavirus death ...

1 What does it mean to have a 'misguided faith'?
Post Date: 2020-04-18 07:18:10 by Gatlin
What does it mean to have a 'misguided faith'? Hebrews 11 has always been considered the "faith" chapter. In Hebrews 11:1 we learn that "faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." But that is not how the world defines faith. We hear all sorts of ways the word "faith" is bandied around. Many will say that they have faith that the bridge they cross each day won't fall or that a sinkhole won't open to swallow their house. Even to have what some call "blind" faith which in my opinion is an oxymoron. My dictionary gives this meaning to "blind faith": belief without true understanding, ...

Member of defiant Central church dies from coronavirus illness, but pastor says it's a lie A 78-year-old man who attended a Central church that has bucked state stay-at- home restrictions has died from the illness tied to the novel coronavirus. The East Baton Rouge Parish coroner said Harold Orillion, a parish resident, died from the COVID-19 respiratory illness on Wednesday. Three sources told The Advocate that Orillion had ties to the Life Tabernacle Church. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to publicly discuss a link between the man and the church. The Rev. Tony Spell, the church's pastor, did not return messages left Thursday about ...
Why religious people 'cling' to beliefs even when contradicted by evidence
Post Date: 2020-04-16 04:04:58 by Gatlin
Why religious people 'cling' to beliefs even when contradicted by evidenceStaunchly religious people's minds are dominated by emotion over analytic thinking. Religious people "cling" to certain beliefs in the face of evidence because those views are closely tied to their moral compasses, new studies have suggested. Dogmatic individuals hold confidently to their faith even when contradicted by experts because those beliefs have "emotional resonance," researchers said. In contrast, militant atheists struggle to see anything positive about religion because their brains are dominated by analytical thinking, scientists found. Researchers at Case Western ...
Do You Have Blind Faith?
Post Date: 2020-04-16 03:52:47 by Gatlin
Do You Have Blind Faith? Are you following your religion blindly? Do you divorced your logic and reason from your religious convictions? Certain people seem to do that and teach others the same : that there is a dichotomy between faith and reason. The fundamentalists and certain atheists are wrong about this. It is so outdated and such a caricature of faith that is frustrating to explain it. But because it comes up again and again, we need to address it, again and again. Tertullian famously asked What has Athens to do with Jerusalem? Or what has reason or logic to do with faith or religion? It is easy to pick apart random non-thinking masses who are religious and assume that ...

Virginia pastor who defiantly held church service dies of coronavirus He practiced what he preached then he died of coronavirus. An evangelical pastor died of COVID-19 just weeks after proudly showing off how packed his Virginia church was and vowing to keep preaching unless Im in jail or the hospital. In his last known in-person service on March 22, Bishop Gerald O. Glenn got his congregation at Richmonds New Deliverance Evangelistic Church to stand to prove how many were there despite warnings against gatherings of more than 10 people. I firmly believe that God is larger than this dreaded virus. You can quote me on that, he said, ...
Pope Francis pushes for universal basic income
Post Date: 2020-04-13 12:23:19 by Hondo68
Pope Francis said in an Easter letter to members of various social movements that the crisis caused by the coronavirus could be a time to consider a universal basic income."I know that you have been excluded from the benefits of globalization," he wrote on April 12. "You do not enjoy the superficial pleasures that anesthetize so many consciences, yet you always suffer from the harm they produce. The ills that afflict everyone hit you twice as hard."Pointing to "street vendors, recyclers, carnies, small farmers, construction workers, dressmakers, the different kinds of caregivers" who have "no steady income," Francis said that a universal basic income ...
