(Photo Credit: CBS) PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Archaeologists working at an ancient church in Turkey believe they have unearthed a piece of the cross used to crucify Jesus. But it could take years of analysis before the world will know for sure. “We have found a holy thing in a chest; it’s a piece of a cross,” said one of the archaeologists. Workers believe that cross is the one Jesus died on Friday, April 3, 33 A.D. The piece of wood was discovered in a stone chest on the site of a church in Turkey, built in 660 A.D. The church also has frescoes on its walls depicting Jesus, Mary and the Apostles. Researchers aren’t sure who owned the chest, but it was probably a ...

As I was preparing this position paper I thought it would be a good idea to provide some background, along with the reason for it. I was raised in the Church of the Nazarene. We always had male pastors. I think this church denomination was a break-off from Methodism and Baptists...I don't remember nor do I much care. I recall seeing Kathryn Kuhlman on television, though I can't recall actually watching her program, and I know virtually nothing about her. I don't know her denominational association, if any. I recall a female missionary who along with her missionary husband, visiting relatives in our congregation and giving talks about their experiences over in Swaziland. I ...

How Long Will Muslim Brotherhood Force Huma Abedin to Stay Married to Anthony Weiner? Anthony Weiner was a promising Democratic congressman from New York’s 9th District which is located entirely within Brooklyn. First elected in 1999, Weiner easily won re-elections with no less than 59% of the vote. In 2005, he ran for Mayor of New York City and lost, but still remained a very popular congressman. In 2009, Weiner, a Jew, got engaged to Huma Abedin, a Muslim and aide to then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. They married in 2010 and now have a son named Jordan Zain Weiner. Last year, Weiner was caught sexting messages and nude images of himself, forcing him to resign from Congress ...

Archaeologists Believe They May Have Found Where the Tabernacle Housing the Ark of the Covenant Once Stood Jul. 3, 2013 10:38am Sharona Schwartz In the Bible during the Hebrews’ 40 year trek in the wilderness, the Tabernacle was described as a movable tent which housed the Ark of the Covenant and accompanied the Israelites as they made their way to the Promised Land. Now, archaeologists in Israel say they think they’ve discovered one place where the Tabernacle – also known as the Tent of Meeting – was parked, a discovery that has political significance today. Did Israel Find Where the Tabernacle Housing Ark of the Covenant Once Stood? The Tabernacle in the ...

Pope Francis wants 'poor Church for the poor'

The Pope on why he chose the name Francis, and the kind of Church he wants to see Pope Francis has said he wants "a poor Church, for the poor" following his election as head of the world's 1.2bn Catholics on Wednesday. He said he chose the name Francis after 12-13th Century St Francis of Assisi, who represented "poverty and peace". He urged journalists to get to know the Church with its "virtues and sins" and to share its focus on "truth, goodness and beauty". Pope Francis takes over from Benedict XVI, who abdicated last month. The former Argentine cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, 76, was the surprise choice of cardinals meeting in Rome to ...

I Am a Racist … By John Kirkwood / 15 March 2013 Alright then, I am a racist – a hate-filled, bitter racist. I hate white people. In particular the pasty-white, liberal toads that froth from the Hamptons and that play the race card like Barack Obama plays golf – sheisty, at great cost, and all of the time. Take for example the recent dust up between The Huffington Post and Adam Carolla. Social commentator and sometimes funny-man, Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsome had an exchange with the brilliant and cutting Carolla about poverty, which was then “shaped” by Robin Wilkey of the Huffington Post to sound like Gandhi talking to David Duke. Carolla, who argued for personal ...

When Blake Page announced this week that he was quitting West Point a few months before graduation, citing the overt religiosity on campus, he raised recurring questions about the pervasiveness and impact of evangelical Christianity within the ranks of the US military. “I do not wish to be in any way associated with an institution which willfully disregards the Constitution of the United States of America by enforcing policies which run counter to the same,” Mr. Page wrote in his letter of resignation to the US Military Academy at West Point, in New York. He cites, among other things, routine prayers at mandatory events for cadets and the practice of awarding off-campus passes ...

Both have been charged in the death of their son. Dina Palmer, 27, and Markiece Palmer, 34, were charged with murder, child abuse and neglect following the death of 7-year-old Roderick Arrington Jr., also known as R.J. Bryan Fischer, the director of issues analysis of the conservative fundamentalist American Family Association, on Thursday told a so-called “expert” who denies climate change that not using God’s fossil fuels would be like “crushing” someone’s feelings by rejecting their birthday present. The Cornwall Alliance’s Calvin Beisner, who has previously said that believing in climate change “is an insult to God,” explained on Thursday that the Bible said it was also very rude to not use oil, coal and natural gas. “The wicked and lazy master was the one who buried his talent in the ground and didn’t do anything to multiply it,” Beisner ...

Kendra Baker, a teacher South Laurel County High School, wrote the message, reportedly a comment by another student, shortly after the election. From the Lexington Herald-Leader, Mary Gilbert, who filed the complaint, had a daughter in Baker’s psychology class: “I feel like she was bullied by a teacher,” Gilbert said of her daughter. Why Evangelical Bible Idolatry Sucks and Why I Go to a Greek Orthodox Church Even Though It’s A Mess Too November 13, 2012 By Frank Schaeffer Having elevated the Bible — or at least the nicer bits that they like — to the status of a magic book evangelicals have demoted God. Their “god” is trapped in a book and kept somewhat like a tame rat inside the cage of “biblical inerrancy.” Since the evangelical/fundamentalists worship a book rather than God they can’t admit that the Bible has flaws and is just plain crazy in places. So they spend lifetimes working to make “sense” of something nonsensical, mean and stupid. Why Bible idolatry is ...

Savita Halappanavar, Death: Irish Woman Denied Abortion Dies From Blood Poisoning

DUBLIN — The debate over legalizing abortion in Ireland flared Wednesday after the government confirmed that a woman in the midst of a miscarriage was refused an abortion and died in an Irish hospital after suffering from blood poisoning. Prime Minister Enda Kenny said he was awaiting findings from three investigations into the death of Savita Halappanavar, a 31-year-old Indian woman who was 17 weeks pregnant. Her case highlighted the legal limbo in which pregnant women facing severe health problems can find themselves in predominantly Catholic Ireland. Ireland's constitution officially bans abortion, but a 1992 Supreme Court ruling found the procedure should be legalized for ...

Report: For The First Time In Its History, The United States Does Not Have A Protestant Majority

NEW YORK (AP) -- For the first time in its history, the United States does not have a Protestant majority, according to a new study. One reason: The number of Americans with no religious affiliation is on the rise. The percentage of Protestant adults in the U.S. has reached a low of 48 percent, the first time that Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life has reported with certainty that the number has fallen below 50 percent. The drop has long been anticipated and comes at a time when no Protestants are on the U.S. Supreme Court and the Republicans have their first presidential ticket with no Protestant nominees. Among the reasons for the change a spike in the number of American adults who ...

‘Jesus Is a Monkey’: Tensions Intensify Between Jews & Christians in the Holy Land

JERUSALEM (AP) — After a series of attacks by vandals on Christian holy sites in Israel, normally tight-lipped Roman Catholic officials are beginning to speak out, publicly appealing to authorities to take a stronger stand against the violence. The Rev. Pierbattista Pizzaballa, one of the church’s top officials in the Holy Land, said he is worried about relations between Jews and Christians in the Holy Land. He believes the blame can go all around. “I think the main atmosphere is ignorance,” Pizzaballa told The Associated Press in an interview. In this Sept. 4, 2012, file photo, a Catholic monk stands in a doorway of the Latrun Trappist Monastery where Israeli police say ...

Joel Osteen tells Soledad O’Brien: LGBT people aren’t ‘God’s best’

Conservative televangelist Joel Osteen on Thursday asserted that homosexuality was a sin and not “God’s best” — but at the same time, he said had not chosen to be straight. During an interview on CNN, host Soledad O’Brien asked Osteen how he could claim to be uplifting LGBT people while also telling them they were sinners. “It seems like in Christianity, sometimes we categorize sin,” Osteen explained. “I mean pride is a sin, being critical is a sin, being negative is a sin.” “Those are all things you can change,” O’Brien noted. “I don’t think it’s God’s best,” the evangelist insited. “You would ...

A Faded Piece of Papyrus Refers to Jesus’ Wife [Full Thread]

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — A historian of early Christianity at Harvard Divinity School has identified a scrap of papyrus that she says was written in Coptic in the fourth century and contains a phrase never seen in any piece of Scripture: “Jesus said to them, ‘My wife …'” The faded papyrus fragment is smaller than a business card, with eight lines on one side, in black ink legible under a magnifying glass. Just below the line about Jesus having a wife, the papyrus includes a second provocative clause that purportedly says, “she will be able to be my disciple.” The finding is being made public in Rome on Tuesday at an international meeting of Coptic scholars ...

Panel Unanimously Decides to Regulate a Circumcision Ritual

The New York City Board of Health unanimously passed a regulation on Thursday that will require consent from parents before an infant can have a form of Jewish ritual circumcision, prevalent in parts of the ultra-Orthodox community, in which the circumciser uses his mouth to remove blood from the incision. In a morning meeting, the nine-member panel of doctors and public health professionals said that though the regulation had been challenged by some Orthodox Jewish religious authorities as an unconstitutional infringement of their religious freedom, the risk of disease from the ancient procedure was serious enough to warrant action. Indeed, some panel members said they believed that ...

DNC Erecting Creepy Giant Obama Sculpture (Obama theocracy - Mission Accomplished)

Forget the marble pillars, this time there will be a giant 16-foot sculpture of Obama made out of 15.5 tons of sand at the Democratic National Convention. Building a giant sand sculpture of a living leader might be considered a bit tacky with its worshipful implications, but building one during a hurricane in South Carolina is in particularly bad taste. But if nothing else, at least Obama has found one “Shovel Ready Project”. And this isn’t even the creepiest giant Obama sand sculpture ever made. The winner of that particular competition is still Sudarsan Pattnaik with this nightmare made out of sand. Poster Comment:
