More than a third of the congregations that once belonged to a Georgia- based regional body of The United Methodist Church have disaffiliated from the denomination over its ongoing debate over homosexuality. The recent controversy over CPH’s new essays on the Large Catechism has caused some to ask whether it is appropriate for women to publicly teach official doctrine to the church. Some may argue directly from divine revelation to answer this question. Others might argue, from a sort of natural-law perspective informed by Scripture, that there is an ontological difference between men and women which makes it appropriate for men, but not women, to write the kind of essays newly attached to the catechism. On Tuesday, March 21, Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) groups from across Illinois gathered at Trinity Lutheran Church in downtown Springfield for the Illinois March for Life, which was sponsored in part by the LCMS Office of National Mission. Located across the street from the Illinois Capitol, Trinity was perfectly situated to host those attending the march, which started less than a block away. Two female pastors of the United Methodist Church may be defrocked after they officiated a wedding ceremony for a nonbinary couple, according to Religion News Service. Rev. Elizabeth Davidson and Rev. Murals with drawings of Christ and Virgin Mary discovered in northern Sudan

While excavating an archaeological site in the Old Dongola region of northern Sudan, Polish researchers discovered stone artifacts dating back to the Middle Ages including ancient murals inscribed with drawings and pictorial motifs of Christ, the Virgin Mary, and the archangel Michael. The researchers described the discovery as unique and unexpected because the images were painted in an unusual way compared to other Christian archaeological discoveries in northern Sudan.
