A small town in Wisconsin is facing a federal lawsuit after city officials demanded that a local couple, Timothy and Megan Florek, take down their yard sign opposing the rezoning of the property on which a local middle school is situated. The city claimed the Floreks were violating a local ordinance that places a 30-day limit on "temporary" or "portable" signs. Despite legal pushback, the city doubled down, insisting that the ordinance did not violate the First Amendment. On Monday, they were sued in federal court. "It's not entirely difficult to change an ordinance, but it's something that needs to be done to protect everybody's First Amendment ...

The End of Monetary Hedonism
Post Date: 2023-01-31 18:11:27 by Charles_Byrd
Does cheap money and credit make us richer? Does more money and credit create more stuff, or better stuff? Do they make us happier and more productive? Or do these twin forces actually distort the economy, misallocate resources, and degrade us as people? These are fundamental questions in an age of monetary hedonism. It is time we began to ask and answer them. Millions of people across the West increasingly recognize the limits of monetary policy, understanding that more money and credit in society do not magically create more goods and services. Production precedes consumption. Capital accumulation is made possible only through profit, which is generated by higher productivity, thanks to ...

First, They Lied About the Range . . .

There is a creepy consanguinity between the marketing and selling of the “masks” and then “vaccines” – and the marketing and selling of electric vehicles. It makes you wonder whether there might be a relationship . . . They arose as the “solution” to supposedly dire problems that – we were told – required immediate, right now amelioration. No time to wait and see – or even think before we’re obliged to act. The rush-rush tactics of the time-share selling fraudster, in other words. The “virus” is going to kill tens of millions – maybe more! – unless everyone “masks,” right now (and forever more). Stays home ...

The Wrong Question
Post Date: 2023-01-30 22:24:02 by Charles_Byrd
An article appeared on January 20th, 2023, touching upon the assault on the “Reconciliation” monument in Arlington National Cemetery. The monument has been labeled as “Confederate” and therefore resides in the cross-hairs of the present Woke Nation. Author Allen Brownfeld entitled the piece: Removing the Confederate Memorial From Arlington: What Would Lincoln or Grant Think? Of course, the contretemps about the effort by the vandals of WOKE to remove any and all Confederate along with other “American” cultural monuments is nothing new. Perhaps the newest thing about this one – though there had been earlier intimations on the matter – is the ...

AP Stylebook turns page from journalism to woke newspeak
Post Date: 2023-01-30 22:20:31 by Charles_Byrd
Call something a stylebook, and you conjure images of fashion photography and models. Add the words Associated Press to it and that gives it an aura of authority, like holy writ. The AP Stylebook is a journalism referee, explaining what things mean and is embraced across the industry because it wasn’t always insane. It’s supposed to be the news media version of wordsmith Susie Dent, only without all the wit, humor or accuracy. (Dent might call the stylebook mumpsimus, a 16th century term for "someone who insists that they are right, despite clear evidence that they are not.") Click for Full Text!

What killed the housing supply? Government, no question
Post Date: 2023-01-30 22:15:34 by Charles_Byrd
To find a time when the U.S. economy was as bad as it is today, one must time travel back to 1932 and the Great Depression. Last year gross domestic product grew a meager 2.9%, but disposal income plummeted by more than $1 trillion. While food and utility prices harass everyone on a daily basis, it is important to take a big-picture look. What people will discover is the American dream of home ownership, the most important investment of time and money to low- and middle-income people, is dead. Without home ownership, the path to the middle class is obliterated. Click for Full Text!

Choosing to Remain in the Global Market Economy
Post Date: 2023-01-30 22:12:49 by Charles_Byrd
In my recently published paper, “Should Trade’s ‘Losers’ Be Compensated?: An Exploration of the Welfare Economics of the Losses and Costs of Economic Change” (Journal of Law, Economics and Policy, 2022) I argue that the risk of job loss for each worker in an exchange economy such as ours is the price that he or she voluntarily pays in order to reap the enormous benefits available to each person who participates in this economy. This price is no different from any other price that is voluntarily paid in exchange for something of greater value. Click for Full Text!

Ministries Making a Difference

By renting and working out of eight apartments throughout neighborhoods in Winston Salem, N.C., one couple with the Southern Baptist Convention’s North American Mission Board (NAMB) has been able to use their Mission Center ministry to minister to underserved families through sports, organized activities, weekly discipleship get togethers, and—most recently —through a bus renovated into a mobile classroom, called the “God Loves You” bus. War Is a Racket… Tanks a Lot, Now Give Us F-16s!

Taliban Arrests Chinese Nationals for Stealing Afghan Lithium
Post Date: 2023-01-30 22:07:36 by Charles_Byrd
Taliban terrorists detained three Afghans and two Chinese citizens suspected of trying to smuggle lithium across the Chinese border, the Afghan news outlet Khaama Press reported. Various Afghan and foreign reports about the incident failed to name the men in question, and did not detail any more information about the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)’s possible culpability in either the smuggling or the arrests. One report, quoting local Taliban “authorities,” said that the men were caught with 1,000 metric tons of rocks with lithium. The incident took place in Jalalabad, on Afghanistan’s eastern border with China. Click for Full Text!

Social Contract Theory Idiocy: What Contract?
Post Date: 2023-01-30 21:56:24 by Charles_Byrd
The very idea of any ‘social contract’ for any large group of individuals is asinine on its face. It is an impossibility to be sure if freedom is considered, and that is why constitutions, (‘social contracts’) which supposedly require individual explicit or ‘tacit’ consent, neither of which are valid in this context, are completely worthless, and only deceit by the state. Social contracts require that some or most freedoms be relinquished, and submission to the false authority of a ruler or ruling class be accepted for the ‘common good.’ This is usually based on only a majority ‘decision,’ or not, due to the corrupt and evil nature of ...

Exposed: Alzheimer’s Org Frantically Cuts Ties With Assisted Suicide Group

The Alzheimer’s Association, a national nonprofit with a mission of promoting care, support, and research for Alzheimer’s disease, quickly backpedaled from a partnership with the pro-assisted suicide group Compassion & Choices mere hours after news of the collaboration was widely disseminated. Compassion & Choices, a lobbying group financially supported by George Soros that seeks to make assisted suicide legal throughout the country, had in December announced its partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association for the ostensible purpose of sharing data and resources to improve “end- of-life care” for people in the “Black, Latino, Asian American Native ...

Colorado Baker Targeted Again by Anti-Christian Left
Post Date: 2023-01-30 21:51:33 by Charles_Byrd
In its ruling in another lawsuit against Colorado baker Jack Phillips, the Colorado Court of Appeals last Thursday said its decision wasn’t biased against him just because he is a Christian: These proceedings were not marked by any hostility toward Masterpiece [his bakery design business] or Phillips, or by a desire to punish or target them based on their religious views. Of course they weren’t. Ignore the fact that two of the three judges ruling unanimously against Phillips had been appointed by far-left Governor Jared Polis, who is “married” to a man, and the third by Governor John Hickenlooper who, while a senator, racked up a treasonous Freedom Index score of 5 out ...

Newsom's wife made millions after charging schools to watch 'gender justice' films

Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s wife has potentially raked in millions of dollars from public schools showing her documentaries dedicated to “intersectional gender justice,” according to watchdog group Open the Books. Jennifer Siebel Newsom’s nonprofit, the Representation Project, a group focused on fighting sexism through films and activism, charged California’s public schools between $49 to $599 to stream the documentaries on “gender justice” to their students, according to Open the Books. Since 2012, Newsom has earned nearly $1.5 million in film licenses and nearly $1.7 million in sales from documentaries such as The Great American Lie, a ...

The shaming images that show where our iPhones, laptops and Tesla cars REALLY come from: The truth about the Congolese mines where kids are paid $2-a-day to dig for cobalt
Post Date: 2023-01-30 21:39:29 by Charles_Byrd
For years, big tech companies like Apple and Tesla have assured the customers of their glossy stores and showrooms that all their goods are ethically sourced and sold. But a new series of images taken from inside mines in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where 90 percent of the world's cobalt is mined and used to make the batteries that power our tech-led lives, raise uncomfortable questions. The taxman cometh
Post Date: 2023-01-30 21:34:45 by Charles_Byrd
Make no mistake about it, the federal and state governments have a voracious appetite for the American people’s money. In fact, I don’t doubt for a moment there are Democrats who would love to tax 100% of an individual’s or a family’s income above a half a million dollars? A million dollars? Who knows? I would love to see a pollster do a survey of congressional members perspective on our progressive income tax. The results would be enlightening. Click for Full Text!
