Freedom isn't free, and the price for freedom is almost always blood. The Exodus event is about freedom: freedom from the slavery of Egypt but also freedom from the slavery of sin. I do not think we can overestimate the importance of the Exodus, that is, the "exit" of Israel from Egypt. The Exodus event was THE event of the Old Testament. God never wanted his people to forget that he freed them, so he insisted that they remember this event every year. Passover is the yearly holiday celebrated in remembrance of the Exodus. We might think about the Passover as all of our American holidays wrapped into one that is how important the Exodus was to both ancient Israelite ...

The Lord and Israel are major characters in the Book of Hosea, but the drama of their relationship is acted out in the persons of Hosea and his unfaithful wife, Gomer. She bore him three children: two sons and a daughter. Hosea gave the children symbolic names that illustrated Gods attitude toward Israels present and future: Jezreel (God sows punishment), Lo-Ruhamah (No Mercy), and Lo-Ammi (Not My People). Read on to see what The Lutheran Bible Companion says about Hosea. Click for Full Text!

Well, aint we got fun! Ever since this annotated Catechism became a matter of concern, beginning last week with a laymans Tweet about whats in it, the sparks have been flying. To be clear, we didnt enter the fray to make things worse, and, frankly, I think theyre being handled well since we and a host of others with similar concerns brought it up. But now it seems theres, er, mud being flung about in a rather unsavory fashion. As it happens, for our part we take great pleasure in being falsely accused and men revile us, and persecute us, and say all manner of evil against us falsely, for Christs sake. In fact, we rejoice and are exceeding glad. We ...

A former NASA astronaut said he believes the study of nature and science are intertwined with Scripture at the opening of a new exhibit at the Museum of the Bible about the Good Book's role in the relationship between science and Christianity. Jeff Williams, a retired NASA astronaut who traveled to space on four separate occasions, told The Christian Post during a visit to the exhibit, titled "Scripture and Science: Our Universe, Ourselves, Our Place" that he spent 534 days in space from 2000 to 2016. Pope Francis I said in an interview with the Associated Press that homosexuality is not a crime and encouraged bishops to stop practicing forms of conversion therapy. Francis has come under scrutiny in the past for his statements regarding the LGBTQ community, including his perceived endorsement of same-sex civil unions in 2020. The pope stated during the interview that while homosexuality is considered a sin, it should not be a crime. Click for Full Text!

Fifty Years Post-Roe, Anglicans and Episcopalians Diverge on Abortion Post Date: 2023-01-22 23:39:07 by Charles_Byrd

The Episcopal Church and Anglican Church in North America (ACNA) continue to diverge in social policy and theological belief surrounding bodily autonomy and the sanctity of human life. Those viewpoints were on display January 20 as the ACNA hosted a service of morning prayer preceding the National March for Life. Two hours later, the Episcopal Church Office of Government Relations hosted a conference call titled Roe 50 Years Later: Faith Communities Response to a Post-Roe America. The latter discussion was framed to explore where the pro- choice faith community goes from here. Click for Full Text!
The Large CRTechism Post Date: 2023-01-22 22:42:26 by Charles_Byrd

CPHs streak of publishing great resources has come to a spectacular end, a veritable crash-and-burn. To be more precise, the recently published annotated Large Catechism has a lot of great stuff in it: outstanding theologians and commentary on the Large Catechism, including, of course, the text itself. But like unto the classic metaphor of excrement in the ice cream, consumption of this book requires diligence with both the eye and the spoon. A lot of virtual ink has already been spilled on social media, as the excrementa are being sifted from the delights to the palate. Click for Full Text!

End Time: Collapse of Civilization- The Word of God tells us that a civilization collapses from within Post Date: 2023-01-18 00:22:50 by Charles_Byrd

The Word of God tells us that a civilization collapses from within; one person at a time, like a pebble tossed into a peaceful lake, causing a ripple effect that creates a disturbance across the entire surface of the water. However before the peaceful water can be altered, the pebble must cause it to lose its stability.
For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. (James 1:6 b-8) Click for Full Text!
The church must speak out Post Date: 2023-01-15 18:32:02 by Charles_Byrd

Churches have remained publicly quiet for decades on the moral issues of the day so as not to appear too controversial or too political. As a result, public debate is often left to those without a biblical worldview. The consequences of this passivity have contributed to the unraveling of American civil society. It is way past time to end the silence. The Progressive Elites talk endlessly about "democracy," but their intention is typically a ruse to implement a top-down liberal agenda. They allow normalizing pedophilia, trafficking children for sex, sexually grooming kids, encouraging transgender surgery for minors, and promoting unlimited abortion and gay marriage. These actions ...

Is religion good for society? One man who would answer in the affirmative is Gouverneur Morris, the founding father who spoke at the Constitutional Convention more than anyone else. He originated the phrase we the people of the United States. He once said something that virtually all of the founding fathers would have agreed with: Religion is the only solid basis of good morals; therefore education should teach the precepts of religion, and the duties of man toward God. Death of the Christian God in the hearts of all humans: Why America and W. Europe are committing suicide Post Date: 2023-01-15 18:07:39 by Charles_Byrd

At present, science has no satisfactory answer to the question of the origin of life on the earth. Perhaps the appearance of life on the earth is a miracle. Scientists are reluctant to accept that view, but their choices are limited: either life was created on the earth by the will of a being outside the grasp of scientific understanding, or it evolved on our planet spontaneously, through chemical reactions occurring in nonliving matter lying on the surface of the planet. The first theory places the question of the origin of life beyond the reach of scientific inquiry. It is a statement of faith in the power of a Supreme Being not subject to the laws of science. The second theory is ...
Old Testament: Micah 6:1-8 (Epiphany 4: Series A) Post Date: 2023-01-15 17:53:52 by Charles_Byrd

Our Old Testament text for Epiphany 4 is certainly a challenge. It is tricky because there is no Gospel in our text whatsoever. Micah 6:1-8 is an accusing message of Micah who is issuing a warning and providing an explicit opportunity for people to do the right thing in order to please the Lord. This pericope is an elaborate representation of a legal case of Yahweh verses Israel, in which God brings a grievance against His people.[1] Click for Full Text!

One of the great religious debates has always been if there is a God, where can he be found? Popular thinking in our culture includes three popular camps on the subject, but all of them miss the surprise of Epiphany. For atheists, the answer is simple: Nowhere! He cannot be found anywhere because God does not exist. For believers in the Deity, however, two popular answers are contradictory. For those with deistic tendencies, God is very majestic and distant. We cant find him because he really does not want to interact with us and desires to remain mostly aloof. He is hidden in his distant Heaven, and we are here on earth, and that is the end of the matter. For others, however, God is ...

Even if you or I were to spend a thousand lifetimes poring over the words of the Book of Hebrews, wed still never exhaust all of its riches. Hebrews, of course, is a New Testament book of immense depth, brimming with an array of weighty truths, forming an indispensable link between the biblical testaments. Without Hebrews, much of what we know and believe as Christians wouldnt make a lick of sense since it is the gospel, according to Hebrews, which gives the good news of Gods salvation in Christ with untold clarity and certainty. The writer of Hebrews does this essentially by shedding light on the varied Old Testament means and methods by which Gods people communed ...
