A recent U.S. Federal Reserve report found that household wealth in the United States has suffered its second-fastest decline since 1959 during the first three quarters of this year. Only a positive performance in real estate helped ease the decline. The Fed’s Financial Accounts of the United States report shared, “The net worth of households and nonprofit organizations declined $0.4 trillion to $143.3 trillion in the third quarter. The federal Bureau of Prison's deeply flawed, backlogged system for investigating sexual assault fails to protect female inmates from rape while protecting employees who commit sexual assault, according to a bipartisan report issued today by the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations (PSI). In 2015, when he was 17, Dayonta McClinton and five accomplices robbed a CVS pharmacy in Indiana at gunpoint. Federal prosecutors also alleged that McClinton shot and killed one of his accomplices, Malik Perry, during a dispute after the robbery. Tyler Cowen broke the sad news that Walter Grinder passed away. Tyler was one of the many intellectual protégées of Walter- certainly the most prominent and successful, the one with whom Walter felt the stronger bond, as he met Tyler when the latter was a teenager. But Walter, as the engine behind the Institute of Humane Studies, played a similar role to many, whom he gently and wisely steered in several new avenues of research. Never underestimate the role of the person who puts a good book in your hands. Meeting Walter at age 13 was a formative moment in my life, as he hooked me on the world of ideas. Fortunately, Walter lived in Bogota, New Jersey at the time, and I was not so far away. He was the first person to show me it was possible to have a life devoted to intellectual inquiry.
