MOSCOW (AP) Vladimir Putin and his Russia look more invincible today than at any other time in his 18 years in power. Since Putin last faced an election in 2012, Russians have invaded Ukraine, annexed Crimea, blanket-bombed Syria, been accused of meddling in the U.S. presidential election and claimed to have a scary new nuclear arsenal. "No one listened to us. You listen to us now," he said earlier this month, boasting about those weapons. Putin will overwhelmingly win re-election as president on March 18, again. So why bother holding a vote at all? Click for Full Text!
U.S. allies jostle to win exemptions from Trump tariffs Post Date: 2018-03-10 14:00:04 by Gatlin

South Korea made an impassioned appeal to the American secretary of defense and national security adviser, reminding them of its role trying to defang North Korea. Europe pointed out that it was, in fact, a longstanding military ally of the United States. But it was Australia that deployed a secret weapon a day after President Trump signed an order imposing tariffs on steel and aluminum imports, as nations jockeyed for exemptions from the levies. Were calling in all contacts at every level, Julie Bishop, Australias foreign minister, told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. Top among those enlisted: the golfing legend Greg Norman, a friend of Mr. ...
EU’s anti-Trump (aka anti-Tariff) hit list: Everything including the kitchen sink Post Date: 2018-03-10 10:52:47 by Liberator

The EU is set to hit a wide range of American products ranging from yachts to peanut butter with duties of 25 percent to retaliate against President Donald Trumps tariffs on imports of steel and aluminum. The products targeted, as shown in a list obtained by POLITICO, are chosen so as not to harm EU industries, which do not need these imports. Some targets clearly gun for politically sensitive Republican-run states. The total value of the targets is 2.83 billion. They will be discussed on Wednesday by commissioners from the 28 member countries, and will be rolled out if Trump goes ahead with the restrictions he announced last week. In agriculture, the EU will go ...

ISIS, or ISIL, or Islamic State, has been almost completely defeated in Syria, but the U.S. Department of Defense is requesting an increase instead of a decrease in funding to support Vetted Syrian Opposition, or fighters in Syria against Syrias Government, and it refers to these fighters as being part of Americas strategy to defeat ISIS, instead of as being what they now obviously are: fighters for regime-change, or to overthrow Syrias Government (which is headed by its President Bashar al-Assad, who received 89% of the votes cast throughout Syria in the internationally monitored 2014 Presidential election). Chung was part of the South Korean delegation that met with North Korean officials, and he said that Kim is willing to halt his nuclear program and begin talks with South Korea and the U.S. as early as May. The U.S. and Polish governments denied reports Tuesday that the U.S. is punishing Poland over a new Holocaust speech law by freezing high-level diplomatic contacts and blocking funding for joint military projects. Bartosz Cichocki, deputy foreign minister in Poland, conceded that the U.S. government has been expressing "concerns and questions" about the law, but said media reports of sanctions were untrue. Later in Washington, State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert also denied the claims. "The reports that allege any kind of a suspension in security cooperation or high-level dialogue, all of that is simply false. Poland is a close NATO ally, that will remain, that ...
Australia turning out to be the biggest meddler in the US election Post Date: 2018-03-07 07:32:03 by A K A Stone

Remember when President Trump had his first conversation with Australia's prime minister and, inexplicably, the conversation turned into a slam- down-the-receiver fight?
Maybe Trump knew something. The ostensible issue at the time was refugees and a stanky little deal President Obama made for America to take in Australia's high-risk illegal refugees from Islamic hellholes who had paid smugglers to bring them to Australia's shores illegally. The illegal entrants were being awarded for their illegality with American residence and citizenship, something they will eventually come to abhor before one of them lashes out at us through a terror attack or some other antisocial act, and it takes ...

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump's top economic adviser, Gary Cohn, said on Tuesday he was resigning, a decision that came after he lost a fight within the White House over plans to impose hefty steel and aluminum tariffs.White House officials said the dispute over tariffs contributed to Cohns decision to resign but was not the only reason. One official said there had been several issues that led to the parting, but noted: "His biggest mission was on the tax cut bill, which he got passed."The White House said the timing of Cohn's departure from his role as director of the National Economic Council had not been finalized but was still a few weeks ...

A gay escort duped into thinking a simple parish priest was a high-powered judge pulls the curtain back on the seedy world of priests who pay for sex. ROMEFather Luca Morini did not practice what he preached. In fact, the Catholic priest apparently did a lot more than preaching at the two parishes he led in rural Tuscany where he earned the nickname Don Euro and where he now faces charges for fraud, embezzlement, drug dealing, extortion, and money laundering. His impropriety was first exposed after a male escort named Francesco Mangiacapra discovered that the consensual sex-for-hire relationship he had with Morini, who he thought was a high-powered judge, was not quite ...

The Australia government body responsible for monitoring the importing of cars is the Department of Infrastructure and Transport. They work in conjunction with the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service. In the first rumblings of a potential trade war, President Trump punched back Saturday at Canadian and European warnings that his steel tariff plan is "unacceptable" by threatening to slap a tariff on European cars if they try to take him on. The latest volley out of Mar-a-Lago came two days after Trump first announced plans to impose a U.S. tariff of 25% on steel imports and 10% on aluminum. That, in turn, was met by a sharp rejection from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau who called the tariffs "absolutely unacceptable" and said they would cause serious disruption of markets on both sides of the border. His foreign minister, Chrystia Freeland, warns that Canada is ...

MOSCOW (Reuters) - President Vladimir Putin announced an array of new nuclear weapons on Thursday, in one of his most bellicose speeches in years, saying they could hit almost any point in the world and evade a U.S.-built missile shield.Putin was speaking ahead of an election on March 18 that polls indicate he should win easily. He said a nuclear attack on any of Moscows allies would be regarded as an attack on Russia itself and draw an immediate response. It was unclear if he had a particular Russian ally, such as Syria, in mind, but his comments looked like a warning to Washington not to use tactical battlefield nuclear weapons. His remarks were greeted with scepticism in ...

One of the more controversial platform items in Donald Trumps foreign policy stance on the campaign trail had been an insistence that our Europen allies start investing more in their own military forces and carrying a bit more of the defense load. One country in particular was called out on this and that was Germany. Many in the media scoffed at the idea and even termed it insulting to our German allies. But how real was the need for improvement? Recently its been revealed that Germanys military isnt just behind the curve on investment and improvements. Its practically dysfunctional. German Newspaper Die Welt reported on the dismal state of the Bundeswehr (the ...

"The migrant crisis is the 9/11 of the European Union... That day in 2001, everything changed in the US. In a minute, America discovered its vulnerability. Migrants had the same effect in Europe... The migration crisis profoundly undermines the ideas of democracy, tolerance and... the liberal principles that constitute our ideological landscape." A Russian oligarch believed to control the Russian mercenaries who attacked U.S. troops and their allies in Syria this month was in close touch with Kremlin and Syrian officials in the days and weeks before and after the assault, according to U.S. intelligence reports. In intercepted communications in late January, the oligarch, Yevgeniy Prigozhin, told a senior Syrian official that he had secured permission from an unspecified Russian minister to move forward with a fast and strong initiative that would take place in early February. Prigozhin made front-page headlines last week when he was indicted by special counsel Robert S. Mueller III for bankrolling and ...

Moscow (CNN)There are growing indications that US airstrikes killed and injured dozens of Russian military contractors in northern Syria earlier this month. But in stark contrast to the death of a Russian pilot shot down by rebels in Syria In January, when the airman was hailed as a hero by the Defense Ministry, Moscow appears to wish this story would go away. The Kremlin has downplayed reports of mass casualties, not named any of those who died and not said why they were there in the first place. But families of the dead men are starting to ask questions. And details of just why the mercenaries were in the oil-rich region -- and the target of their ill-fated operation -- are starting to ...
