The head of Monterey County's Catholic diocese, Bishop Richard Garcia, has issued a letter in response to Arizona's law pushing state enforcement of federal immigration law.
In the letter, Garcia says the law has increased fear, an "us versus them" mentality and allowed "a culture of violence to prevail," comparing the threat of deportation and family disruption to Nazi Germany.
Garcia, himself the son of Mexican immigrants, praised the "tremendous contributions immigrants have made to our country and our well-being."
