Title: Pro Wetback Principal of Live Oak Highschool Tells Students Not to Wear American Flag Shirts...Mexican Flag Shirts Ok though

On any other day at Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill, Daniel Galli and his four friends would not even be noticed for wearing t-shirts with the American flag. But Cinco de Mayo is not any typical day especially on a campus with a large Mexican American student population.

Galli says he and his friends were sitting at a table during brunch break when the Vice Principal asked two of the boys to remove American flag bandannas that they wearing on their heads and for the others to turn their American flag t-shirts inside-out. When they refused, the boys were ordered to go to the principal's office.

"They said we could wear it on any other day, but today is sensitive to Mexican Americans because it's supposed to be their holiday so we were not allowed to wear it today," Daniel Galli said.

The boys said the administrators called their t-shirts "incendiary" that would lead to fights on campus.

"They said if we tried to go back to class with our shirts not taken off, they said it was defiance and we would get suspended," Dominic Maciel, Galli's friend, said.

The boys with really no choice went home to avoid suspension. They say they're angry they were not allowed to express their American pride. Their parents are just as upset calling what happened to their children: total nonsense.

"I think it's absolutely ridiculous," Julie Fagerstrom, Maciel's mom, said. "All they were doing was displaying their patriotic nature. They're expressing their individuality."

But to many Mexican American students at Live Oak, this was a big deal. They say they were offended by the five boys and others for wearing American colors on a Mexican holiday.

"I think they should apologize cause it is a Mexican Heritage Day," Annicia Nunez, a Live Oak High student, said. "We don't deserve to be get disrespected like that. We wouldn't do that on Fourth of July."

As for an apology, the boys and their families say, "fat chance."

"I'm not going to apologize. I did nothing wrong," Galli said. "I went along with my normal day. I might have worn an American flag, but I'm an American and I'm proud to be an American."

The five boys and their families met with a Morgan Hill Unified School District official Wednesday night. The district released a statement saying it does not agree with how Live Oak High School administrators handled this incident.

As for the boys, they will not be suspended and they will be going back to school later today. They may even wear their red, white, and blue colors again, but this time, the day after Cinco de Mayo, there will be no controversy.

This is America. American Flags are always ok. Mexican Flags are never welcome. Deport all the illegals and their anchor babies. It is time for the wetbacks to pack up and go home.

So many ironies here.

Cinco de Mayo IS NOT A HOLIDAY. Its a promotional gimmick by Corona Beer distributing. Its not recognized in America, nor in Mexico.

Gee, I wonder what would happen if we kicked hispanic kids out of school on a 4th of July celebration for wearing 'mexican flag colors' (if our schools were open on the 4th of course).

Cinco de Mayo IS NOT A HOLIDAY.

What would a day be without a nice juicy Booferism?

Tell that to the people of Puebla, Mexico, Boof, who celebrate it every year.

You reallyy should'nt pop in on a discussion like this unarmed like you do war. It's one thing that people think your dumber than a box of rocks, but it's another for you to go out of your way proving they're right!

“Barely acknowledged in Mexico and widely misunderstood in the U.S. as Mexican Independence Day, Cinco de Mayo celebrates the 1862 Mexican victory over the French in 'La Batalla de Puebla.'

Cinco de Mayo: Not Mexican independence Day!

Cinco de Mayo; Turning Nothing Into Something

IN fact, if it had not been for America joining forces with Mexico after the Civil War (1865), Mexico might never have been free and independent, they might well be speaking french today.

If there is an American out there who still cares about the truth, then you know that history is re-written by the victors, and they can re-write history anyway they want it, and make you believe it.

Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Battle of Puebla, where Mexico defeated Napoleon's army in 1862, in Puebla, Mexico, it was a "BATTLE", a minor skirmish, Mexicans had won a BATTLE against the French, they DID NOT win the WAR and their Independence that day, their Independence Day did not come until after Ameican troops joined forces with them and defeated the French, in 1867, five (5) years after the 'Battle of Puebla'.

Cinco de Mayo is just one of the many celebrations we embrace in this country without much thought. It has become commonplace for us to commemorate unfounded events, add traditions of which we can't trace the roots, and misconstrue the historic and religious affiliations behind dates we hold in high regard.

Despite popular misconception in the US, today is not Mexico's Independence Day. May 5 instead marks the anniversary of the 1862 Battle of Puebla when the Mexican Army defeated the French. Compared to Sept. 16, the day Mexico commemorates its independence, or Easter week, or even upcoming Mother's Day, Cinco de Mayo is practically a non-event.

Cinco de Mayo is a holiday that found its way to the US in the 1950s and 60s, during the civil rights movement when Hispanic activists were attempting to foster goodwill between both nations and cultures. It was in the 1980s that marketers saw the holiday as a way to make a buck.

Americans today with no ties to Mexico will find any reason to eat tortilla chips and guacamole, wearing Sombreros and drinking Tequila and beer, many without being able to locate Puebla on a map.

It has been vastly commercialized on the US side of the border. They created this mythology of what it means to Mexicans when it is really a minor holiday. It is acknowledged in Mexico but it certainly is not celebrated.

Cinco de Mayo, the semi-bogus national day of Latinos everywhere, is as good a day as any to party.

In Mexico, meanwhile, work goes on as normal, banks operate, and stores are open.

I'm going to have a taco and beer.

Espero que pueda cada uno tenga un buen cinco de dia y'all! &;-)

I'm just sitting here laughing my ass off noting via your cut and paste my anti groupie confuses a town in Mexico WITH Mexico, in another childish attempt at proving something that I didn't say was 'wrong'.

AKA Stone is correct, he's basically a first grader (no matter how he spelled it).

Corona made a big deal of it years ago. Its about as 'real' of a holiday as Quanza...(eyes rolling)

hahhahaaa...

I'm sure that little town in meheeeco celebrates stinko de mayo, it's probably the only thing they can call their own. Lots of little towns here in the U.S. celebrate battles and skirmishes, but that doesn't mean the intire nation joins in ....

btw, you're right, Corona did make a big deal of this years ago...lol Quanza..I could tell you stories....wonder if war would want in on that one? &;-)

The fact is it IS, as I've shown, recognized in Mexico and Puebla isn't a town. It's a atate.

Boofer said something that was wrong - again. Agree with him at your own risk.
