LEFT WING LOONS Title: Don’T Panic - BuT BreakThrough Cases ... May Be a Bigger Problem Than You’ve Been Told --- CurrenT public-healTh messaging may undersTaTe The scale - risk. COVID-19 Dont Panic, But Breakthrough Cases May Be a Bigger Issue Than Youve Been Told AUG. 12, 2021 Dont Panic, But Breakthrough Cases May Be a Bigger Problem Than Youve Been Told Current public-health messaging may understate the scale and risk. followingseas - 5 DAYS AGO Thank you for this comprehensive article. The data may be up for interpretation, but there's not much that's debatable about my experience: I am reading this while in quarantine with a confirmed breakthrough case of Covid. I'm a healthy 39 year old woman, who was fully vaccinated with Moderna four months ago. And, I've been masking indoors again for the past month. My case was confirmed by PCR test two days ago, and I have been symptomatic for four days, mildly so far: mainly sneezing, runny nose, sore throat. No fever, and so far I can still taste food. So from my perspective, breakthrough cases aren't rare at all. Any withholding or spinning of life-saving information from the population is unacceptable. This is what comes of the disallowance of nuance in our polarized national mindset: each side is entrenched in the fringes, leaving the truth somewhere in the middle, undefended. left_the_center - 1 WEEK AGO I hate to burst your bubble, but most of our media is controlled by liberals, and they've been doing a piss-poor job of reporting on the reality of COVID and the Delta variant, too. None of our empowered and entrenched political ideologies are coming out of this pandemic looking like anything but varying levels of incompetent and/or malicious. joebobjones - 1 WEEK AGO But they've OBVIOUSLY done a much better job reporting on Covid than the garbage right wing outlets, which is part of why I, as an immunosuppressed person, am still alive. If I had listened to the far right media I have no doubt I'd be dead by now. The early information on masks and social distancing was a lifesaver, quite literally. As for my right wing friends that get their "information" from God knows where, virtually all of them are paying the price for that mistake now. One of them is even going to have to carry an oxygen tank around with him for the rest of his now shortened life. Never let your politics get in the way of the science. He did, and he paid for it. left_the_center - 1 WEEK AGO That's why they call liberals the "lesser evil". songsfrown - 1 WEEK AGO OK, that is a fatuously stupid comment ("most of our media is controlled by liberals") coming from you. Either our media is controlled by capitalist ad dollars or it is controlled by feckless liberals but it certainly isn't both. The fact that our media, corporations,i.e. economic manifestations of our political economy are indeed capitalist enterprises the product of said media must satisfy the customers, capitalist advertisers. The best explanation was given to a journalist asking Chomsky if he thought that he (the journalist questioning Chomsky) was self censoring because, well, he didn't think he was self censoring. Chomsky's response was something to the effect that you don't need to self censor since you wouldn't be sitting there if you hadn't inculcated the systemic mores and values since the beginning of your journey through life and the education system that satisfy the folks that pay your paycheck. left_the_center - 1 WEEK AGO Are you kidding me? Liberals are more corporatist than right wingers at this point in our political history, and absolutely control 80% of our media with an iron fist. We don't even live in the same country.
