The definition of marriage, given to us by our Creator, is one man for one woman for life. Scripture is abundantly clear on that, beginning in Genesis (Genesis 1:27 and 2:24) and confirmed by Jesus Christ in Matthew 19 and Mark 10. But our culture has largely abandoned God’s definition of marriage, throwing out “man” and “woman”—allowing for “marriage” between two men or two women . . . but why two? But there’s no such thing as gay “marriage,” as marriage is a God-ordained institution. In a culture that has by and large abandoned God’s Word and redefined marriage, why should they stop at just two?

Now that’s not the first time I’ve declared this. I’ve been saying for years that, as our culture drifts further from God’s Word as the authority, we’re going to see the culture begin to redefine marriage yet again. We’re going to see people pushing to normalize and celebrate all kinds of sinful behaviors, including polygamy, polyamory, pedophilia, and much more. Because when there’s no absolute authority, everyone does what’s right in their own eyes (Judges 21:25). Bottom line: if people don’t build their thinking on God’s Word, then the foundation they use is man’s fallible word, and so ultimately anything goes.

So that’s what’s been happening in western culture. Groups are attempting to normalize these sinful behaviors. A recent article reported on a task force being formed by the American Psychological Association to study “consensual non-monogamy”—that describes people who commit adultery with the “consent” of their spouse. And the goal isn’t merely to study these individuals. It’s to promote “awareness and inclusivity about consensual non-monogamy and diverse expressions of intimate relationships.”

They state,

Finding love and/or sexual intimacy is a central part of most people’s life experience. However, the ability to engage in desired intimacy without social and medical stigmatization is not a liberty for all. This task force seeks to address the needs of people who practice consensual non-monogamy, including their intersecting marginalized identities. “Marginalized identities,” a lack of “liberty,” “stigmatization”—do those terms sound familiar? This is the same argument that was used to normalize homosexual behavior and, eventually, legalize gay “marriage.” Gay “marriage” wasn’t the goal; it was merely a benchmark along the way that would help allow any other sexual sin imaginable.

But “liberty” is not a license for immorality or sexual perversion. Our liberties are given to us by God—something America’s founding documents recognize—and he has not given us the liberty to live however we want. We are to live in accordance with God’s Word.

The APA refers to polyamorous (among other) relationships as “ethical non- monogamous relationships.” Why “ethical”? Well, because in the secular sexual ethic, the only “ethic” is consent—as long as consent was involved, it’s fine. But the APA has no foundation for morality, except its own arbitrary opinion. What makes consensual adultery acceptable but not rape? Simply their opinion, nothing else. You see, if the APA changes its opinion, rape might no longer be unethical, in their view. It’s all a matter of what the culture is prepared to tolerate—and the more secular society becomes, the more tolerant of any behavior (except, that is, the absolutes of Christian morality) are tolerated. At the same time they become more intolerant of Christianity.

But we don’t get to determine morality. God’s Word determines morality, whether we believe it or not, and God will judge each of us. Just as God’s Word is clear on his design for marriage, it is clear on homosexual behavior (Romans 1:26–28), adultery (Exodus 20:14; Hebrews 13:4), and all sexual sin:
