Title: Trump Supporters Furious The Border Wall Will Put Their Houses On The Mexico Side

In a case of catastrophic cognitive dissonance, some Trump supporters in Texas have finally realized their vote for the president may force some of them out of their homes for less than they are worth. While others have discovered they will be living on the Mexico side of the wall.

As part of a CNN special report on the impact the wall between the U.S. and Mexico will have on border dwellers in the state that went overwhelmingly for President Donald Trump, the network found there is already an extensive history of government lawsuits filed to take property from homeowners. With Trump’s wall planned for the entire border, some of his supporters are now saying they will fight his administration in the courts, reported Raw Story.

According to one family who had their farm cut in half, part of it in the U.S., part of it in Mexico,  they are still stunned that government was able to take their property 10 years ago.

“I was very angry, I just kept saying, how can they do that? How is that possible in the United States that they can do this?” D’Ann Loop of Brownsville recalled. “They put up a fence in front of our land and then keep us in here — lock us in. I didn’t understand. I was very — I was floored and flabbergasted.”

Loop says they brought the case to court, but lost and now all their land is on the Mexico side of the wall.

“It left us no property on the U.S. side of the border wall, including my house,” she explained. “Everything was behind — on the Mexican side of the U.S. border fence,” with her husband adding they enter the U.S. through a locked gate.

“You punch your code in or you come behind the border wall, there is a feeling of isolation,” Ray Loop  explained.

With hundreds of additional miles of Trump’s proposed wall expected to be built in along the Texas border,  thousands of land owners may be be forced to sell their property to the government or stay and live in changed circumstances, reported Raw Story.

According to Pat Bell of River Bend, she voted for Trump but never supported his border wall plan. She may get a lawyer to try to stop her house from being on the other side of the wall, but it is likely she will lose in court.

“Absolutely I would go to the people who are in charge and, you hate to say I would get a lawyer, but if it comes to that issue, you would,” she explained. (1 image)

" Trump Supporters Furious The Border Wall Will Put Their Houses On The Mexico Side "

While I certainly have sympathy for them, if they are that close, they should have sold out a long time ago, while they could still get something.

My uncle in NM had a friend, old Army buddy, that had a place somewhere in AZ, real close to the border. He told my uncle the place was small, only a few acres, been in his family a number of years. Said illegals kept coming through, day & night. Cutting fences, draining his stock tanks, breaking into his few buildings, killing his livestock. Said they even broke into his house when he was there. Said he put up a big chain link fence around his house. He told uncle that could not sell the place. No one wanted it. Finally, they killed his elderly dog, one of his calves, and did some other damage. He had had enough. Was tired of living in a DMZ. Said he loaded up all his possessions, found a place near my uncle near Holloman, went back, and burned the house & a couple outbuildings down. Never went back. He was really pissed.

He did tell my uncle that he should have sold the place years ago when he still could have got something out of it.

If you buy cheap land directly on a border that has a history of changing hands, you shouldn't be too shocked if they move a border or construct a legitimate border wall.

The border with Mexico is far too fluid. It needs to be finally settled as a matter of law, regardless of where the river meanders. These are far from the only cases of border land ownership disputes.

I'm guessing that ownership of at least some of these lands goes back generations.

You know what? Most any instance of using eminent domain or building border facilities and barriers will inevitably bring out a few sob stories and people with lawyers trying to shake down the gov't for outrageous settlements.

So I take it with a grain of salt.

And if these property owners in often-disputed border areas are inconvenienced or end up on the wrong side of the border, so be it.

You also have to consider those who are the winners in such disputes. You don't hear about them. What about the landowners who barely dare to enter their own land, driving past signs where our federal gov't informs them that they enter this area at their own risk? What about the people who are so terrorized by these criminal gangs smuggling drugs and people that they are virtual prisoners in their own gated homes?

Building a wall may hurt the interests of some people but it will certainly help many others. Maybe more.

I'd like to hear more about people who would be helped. Also, how much all this current enforcement is costing us now and every year until we shut off the influx of illegal aliens crossing our borders.

The status quo is also very dangerous for some border residents or leaves their lands devalued. Let's hear about them.

Thanks for your input Spock.

I'm just saying that I don't doubt there is some small number of people who are losing something. But I do think there is a much larger group who is gaining something, in safety and use of their land and property value.

Did anyone still think there wouldn't be winners and losers in building more border security? This has been going on for a long time.

Do you want a wall or don't you?

If the land is on the border its worth nothing so be happy you get a dime.

You can't have it both ways of I want a wall but not on my land!!

You always see this when people think they can gouge the govenrment(we the people) to get abnormal price for their worthless land.

At least this is not some corporation take the land dirt cheap and make a killing off improving it.

BTW how is this hurting them when it should make the land worth more because now they have a real border?

This is an exercise of the most legitimate use of eminent domain. There can be no higher federal use than a border wall or fence to protect the territory of America. No bridge or highway or military base ranks as high as protecting the integrity of the nation's border.

This is eminent domain with clear national security implications.

I agree. This is one of the few case where 'government' is in the right and you will not hear me say that often.

I searched and found further reporting on this family.

CNN: US family stranded on south side of border fence, 4/4/17

Very fresh reporting. The family's home and outbuildings burned down. I see there is a GoFundMe page for them too.

All that's left of Loop's house is a concrete slab. It is surprisingly clean for such a recent fire. CNN shows where the current border wall runs and where the farm is exactly.

I wonder why they built the fence on that side when its clearly 4 to 5 times longer than just hugging the border?

I have a feeling that there is more to this than we are told?

Looking at the aerial view, I see why they chose to do it. Otherwise, they would be building through the middle of someone's land and have to have multiple expensive electronic gates with locks. This way, they only had to put one lock and gate on their driveway.

Crappy solution but they had their reasons. I have to doubt that sheer malevolence toward the landowner was the only consideration in their decision.
