French company Alstom unveiled the first-ever passenger train powered completely by hydrogen at this weeks Berlin InnoTrans trade show. The hydrogen train or hydrail will be put into service on Germanys Buxtehude-Bremervörde-Bremerhaven-Cuxhaven line in Lower Saxony by December 2017. After two years in development, the Coradia iLint train offers a zero-emissions alternative to Germanys existing fleet of diesel trains, thanks to a roof-mounted tank of hydrogen fuel.
The hydrail is an electric train operating with a hydrogen fuel tank on its roof that powers a fuel cell to generate electricity. This train, and others like it to come in the future, are part of a big push to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from transportation. The Coradia iLint will be the first of its kind to carry passengers along the railway, as most other innovations in hydrail technology have been focused on cargo transport.
Alstom is proud to launch a breakthrough innovation in the field of clean transportation which will complete its Coradia range of regional trains, said Alstom chairman and CEO Henri Poupart-Lafarge, in a statement. It shows our ability to work in close collaboration with our customers and develop a train in only two years.

Brennstoffzellen sind die Zukunft
Diejenigen, die an Wasserstoff gelacht haben noch nichts gesehen. Versuch dich zu erinnern, dass das letzte Lachen ist die beste.
" hydrogen to power mass transit. What can possibly go wrong? "
Yeah, what? Well, let them do the experiment, and we will see in a year or so. That way, they can take the risks, and we can learn from their mistakes.
I suspect the muzzies over there will be paying close attention to the development.
The Hindenburg had a smoking lounge. Isn't that a laugh riot. No matches were allowed however, you could only light your cigarette with a coil.
The lower "B" Deck contained washrooms, a mess hall for the crew, and a smoking lounge. Harold G. Dick, an American representative from the Goodyear Zeppelin Company,[6] recalled "The only entrance to the smoking room, which was pressurized to prevent the admission of any leaking hydrogen, was via the bar, which had a swiveling air lock door, and all departing passengers were scrutinized by the bar steward to make sure they were not carrying out a lit cigarette or pipe." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LZ_129_Hindenburg
By the way, does Propane or Natural Gas scare you? Hydrogen is safer than both. Guess why.
