Texas Sen. Ted Cruz said in an interview airing Sunday that GOP front-runner Donald Trump may encourage riots if he does not win the Republican nomination in Cleveland this summer.

Asked on CBS' "Face the Nation" if he was concerned about the possibility of violence if he were able to "overthrow" Trump with the delegates in Cleveland, Cruz insisted there wouldn't but said that Trump might try to fan the flames.

"No, it won't, although Donald may do everything he can to encourage riots," he said. "You know, overthrow is such a loaded spin word as ... to bring nothing but chuckles."

Gerald Ford and Abraham Lincoln both won their respective nominations despite coming in with fewer votes than their opponents, he added, so it wouldn't be the first time that the candidate who comes out of a convention is the one who didn't win the most votes during the primaries.

"When we arrive in Cleveland, I'm going have a bunch of delegates," he said. "Donald's going have a bunch of delegates. And it's going be a battle to see who can earn the support of a majority of the delegates elected by the people."

Ted Cruz said in an interview airing Sunday that GOP front-runner Donald Trump may encourage riots if he does not win the Republican nomination in Cleveland this summer.

I expect large scale riots if he does win the nomination or the presidency. The radical left has become more powerful, has been importing immigrant potential rioters, and is feeling its oats and ready to make its move. The recent anti-Trump riots in California are a small sample of what is to come.

No, it's going to be an attempt by you to overturn the result of your losing the primary election. To describe a false equality by saying we both have bunches of delegates is is a bit of a distortion and mis-truth. Trump's bunch is far bigger than your bunch and reflects the will of the people in voting booths.

Trump again did a poor job this weekend securing his delegates. He's had plenty of time to figure this out and still loses in state conventions ...and then whines about the system being unfair . This weekend it was Arizona.

Cruz has proved savvy at the delegate hunt, and Arizona was no exception. His supporters credited the campaign's long-standing ground game.

"You have a candidate two years out that's planning," said Michael Sussman, a contractor who specializes in electronic medical records. Cruz "seems to plan for every contingency. And wouldn’t you want a president to plan for every contingency?"

Trump had better win on the 1st ballot because his support among the delegates he has won through the primary process is very weak. As an example ,takeMissouri.

Trump narrowly defeated Cruz in the primary and carried five of the eight congressional districts in the process. State GOP rules provide that 25 of the 52 delegates will be selected at a state convention in three weeks. Three Republican National Committee members are automatic delegates.

The other 24 delegates were chosen Saturday during congressional district conventions -- three in each district. Trump theoretically earned 15 congressional district delegates, but state Republican leaders say just six of those selected are Trump supporters. Nine delegates selected in districts Trump carried are not supporters of Trump.

The same thing happened this week in South Carolina where there is a 2 year process for delegate selection .Cruz' campaign has been there the whole time organizing . So although Trump won the primary big time; the delegates are only bound to him in the 1st ballot.

Trump needs 1237 delegates for a 1st ballot win. What he forgets is that those delegates have to be bound. He'd better make sure that his count is correct ,and do a better effort to lock up unbound delegates. He will not win it after the 1st ballot.

"If you do not take an interest in the affairs of your government, then you are doomed to live under the rule of fools." Plato
