Rush Limbaugh has been a rather consistent defender of Donald Trump, even in the billionaire’s most alienating moments. But Trump’s attacks on his enemy du jour, Sen. Ted Cruz, was a bit much for the conservative radio host. Limbaugh declared Trump’s criticism of Cruz’s challenges of the GOP establishment as a tactical campaign error. In vintage Trump style, the real estate mogul did not mince words, using the word “maniac” to characterize Cruz’s railings on the Senate floor against the Republican leadership. He wasn’t the only conservative leader turned off by Trump’s attack on Cruz. Radio talk show host and former Reagan administration official Mark Levin, for example, also took issue with the implication that conservatives who take a stand against GOP business-as-usual are off-kilter. Levin, who has been a very vocal champion of Trump, condemned the billionaire's comments about Cruz on his Facebook page: "Does that make all conservatives who support Cruz against [Mitch] McConnell, et al, maniacs? And he thinks Cruz is owned by the oil companies because he opposes taxpayer-subsidized ethanol, like most conservatives? Defending the GOP ruling class and lurching left are dumb tactics.” Levin concluded that Trump “really screwed up this time. Big time." Limbaugh said on his radio show Monday: “My questioning here about the way Trump has gone off Cruz here, calling him a maniac, refusing to work with people in the Senate, the reason I’m focusing on that, folks, ’cause that’s so unlike Trump. I mean, that’s a huge mistake." “On paper it’s a huge mistake,” Limbaugh said. “Trump gets away with his mistakes. Such is the bond of loyalty that his support base has for him that he gets away with them. And I don’t think he’s made that many. Don’t misunderstand.” “But for any of you who are holding out hope that Trump is a genuine conservative,” Limbaugh said, “a genuine conservative, even in the Republican field, would not go after Cruz this way. So that just raised a red flag for me, made me somewhat curious.” In an interview on “Fox News Sunday” with host Chris Wallace, Trump described Cruz as unfit for the presidency because of his well-known ways of alienating his GOP colleagues, which, among other things, led to the infamous government shutdown in 2013 over Obamacare and, recently, an unsuccessful attempt to cause another one over Planned Parenthood funding. “Look at the way he’s dealt with the Senate, where he goes in there like a – you know, frankly like a little bit of a maniac. You’re never going to get things done that way," Trump said. Trump said that Cruz doesn’t have the requisite quality of getting along with others in order to achieve a goal. Cruz, who has taken to such things as reading Dr. Seuss’s “Green Eggs and Ham” – in character – on the Senate floor five hours into a 21-hour speech, responded to Trump’s attack with a Twitter link to the song “Maniac” from the 1983 hit movie “Flashdance,” which the senator is said to love. Before the recent exchanges, Cruz and Trump had claimed the most amicable relationship among the GOP presidential rivals. Apparently Cruz crossed the billionaire’s electoral red line when he outperformed him in recent voter polls, and – to boot – criticized him at a private fundraiser in Manhattan. Speaking about Trump and the other political outsider near the top of the GOP polls, retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson, Cruz said, "I don’t believe either one of them is going to be our president.” According to an audio recording of the event that was made available to the New York Times, Cruz went on, “You look at Paris, you look at San Bernardino, it’s given a seriousness to this race that people are looking for: Who is prepared to be a commander in chief? Who understands the threats we face?” he asked.

What's wrong with "free" college in schools funded by taxpayer dollars? It ain't free,since we,the people,are paying for it. Provided the people that go there are qualified to attend and are there to actually learn a trade,that is. Unless they are private colleges paid for my alumni and tuitions,all schools should be "free" to anyone qualified to attend them. ESPECIALLY trade schools for blue collar jobs. It only makes sense,since educated and skilled people earn more money,pay more taxes,and aren't a financial burden on society. Why is democracy held in such high esteem when it’s the enemy of the minority and makes all rights relative to the dictates of the majority? (Ron Paul,2012) American Indians had open borders. Look at how well that worked out for them.

So Trump can rave about Mexican rapists and that's fine with Rush/Levin/et al but calling Cruz "a little bit of a maniac" in the Senate is what finally has crossed the line? For Limbaugh and Levin and Ingraham and even Vannity to turn on Trump over this truly petty potshot at Cruz shows some underlying coordination between these radio talk hosts who have been holding Trump's coat up 'till now. The talk radio guys have formed a Greek chorus on this tiny slight by Trump.

The talk radio guys have formed a Greek chorus on this tiny slight by Trump. then the sharks in the MSM went on full attack mode quoting Rush repeatedly . I'm told that Rush defended his comments yesterday saying that he REALLY wasn't attacking Trump. That is as credible as Rush ,Levin,and Hannity saying that they aren't endorsing one candidate over the other. (didn't know Laura Ingraham still had a radio show.evidently she's been banned here in the NY area ). Last night Trump and Cruz were making nice; both saying their comments were over-blown. Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
We know they admire each other. They gravitate toward each other any time they meet in public. I keep waiting to hear who hangs out with who during the debate bathroom breaks but I bet they do. They have some pact where they agree not to attack each other, that they will compete for the nomination and shut all the others out. Cruz has a decent chance to win this way and, if Trump is the nominee and defeated, Cruz would be well-positioned for a run in 2020 against Hitlery. Also, Cruz has to be on Trump's short list for VP. So not roughing him up would be in Trump's own best interest. As hardcore outsider types, both Cruz and Trump have more in common than either has with any other candidates. Beyond that, the talk radio hosts have made it clear they will go after Trump if he trashes Cruz. Even Trump had to take notice.
If Cruz runs as Trump's VP and is elected, it would be interesting if he kept his Senate seat. The President of the Senate and a member of the Senate.
Nope. Not both at once. In a tie vote, it would allow him to cast two votes. His first vote would be the one causing the tie vote to be decided by his second vote as president of the Senate. Besides, if that was legal, some prez would have done it in the last two centuries. America has a historical antipathy to pols holding more than one office at once. Many states won't even allow a pol to run for two offices at once, usually by refusing to allow their name to appear more than once on a ballot (you recall Rand Paul's maneuver to evade KY law on this point).
Habit, tradition. However, the Supreme Court ruled in its term limits decision that no law could add to the qualifications set out in the Constitution. I didn't agree with their rationale, but it logically would permit dual office holding as there is no explicit Constitutional prohibition on it.
