A cowardly cop put another family pet to death on October 20, leaving a mother and her children grief-stricken.
As surveillance video shows, a Florida City police officer knocks on the front door of the unfortunate family. He was going to inform them that they left a car door open.
The daughter opens the door slightly and their dog, named Duchess, was able to get out first. The cop reaches for his gun as the 40-pound dog emerges and fires three rounds into its head without hesitation.
"She was curious. She wasn't barking (and) she wasn't growling. There was no reason for him to think she was aggressive in any way," said the mother, Gillian Palacios.
The daughter comes out immediately after, and could only stand paralyzed in horror at the scene of murder. Duchess is lying on the sidewalk, still alive but fatally wounded, and the repugnant cop is out of the camera's view.
Palacios is yelling at the cop while her daughter cradles the dying dog in her hands. Duchess can be seen wagging her tail, perhaps finding some comfort in her owner's embrace.
The cop said "your dog charged me" and promptly left the scene, telling them Animal Services would pick up the dog later.
In his report, the cop will surely say that he "feared for his life" from the 40-pound animal. One wonders if he felt any remorse at all for his brutal actions. Instead of hesitating a bit and realizing the dog meant no harm, he put a family in shock and grief.
The department has put their officer on paid administrative leave while they investigate that matter, "gathering all the facts at the time."
The Palacios family rescues dogs and finds homes for them, but decided to keep Duchess. A friend of the family said she was one of the sweetest dogs she has ever met.

Like I said, it's difficult to tell sometimes with you and your cop-worshiping ilk. After all - you cheer when the cops gun down an autistic kid, a grandpa in a wheel chair, a kid holding a Wii remote or a mentally retarded kid. Can you tell me where this cop/human when wrong? Was his problem that he was in the wrong universe? Do you treat people who knock on doors by having your dog attack them? I bet you never even seen the video but just posted it because it had a cop killing something and that pissed you off!

As soon as the door was opened, the dog rushed out before anyone else. 3. The dog ran very deliberately and quickly towards the cop. I watched the video and saw a dog run out of the house and then was shot by a diaper-wetting cop who will now claim he "feared for his life". Why is it that mailmen, pizza delivery guys, meter readers and others who interact with dogs on a daily basis are able to deal with family pets without killing them? In a Cop Culture, the Bill of Rights Doesn’t Amount to Much Oh, and why is that woman coming outside wearing only her bra on top?

If you actually watch the video you see the truth.

I worked for years for the Telephone Company, was in & out of many yards, and encountered many, many dogs. Never ever was bit. Plenty licked my hand, and I petted many, but never, ever was bitten, and never even thought I would be bit. I encountered many different types of dogs, small dogs, German Shepherds, Rotweilers, D Pincers, retrievers, hunting dogs, mutts, etc. Cops like the guy in the OP are either just looking for a reason to "kill something" to prove how "bad" they are, or they are just so wussified they should not be in that job. I have to call bs bs. I have been bitten more times than I can count. Last time the owner swore up and down that the dog would not bite. Well it bit me. Now I demand they put the dog or dogs(more than a couple of animals means you have mental issues) up in a secure location until im done with what needs to be done. I have even had a owner stand there while we were talking and the dog was chewing up my pants! I had to start laughing because it never phase the owner that the dog was tearing up my pants! Guns don't kill but dogs do!
BTW No one can possible look at that video and not say self defense. You want to blame someone blame the stupid owner. She could not control the dog. She let the dog out. Yes. If you spent anytime in the last 10 years in the field you will get bit by a dog. The place I get bit the most is still inside the house or when a dumbass lets their dog out when they come out. Kinda like this video shows.

Well prior to 2000 I really had no issues with dogs. Then everyone wanted pit mixes and rots. These are the number one and two dogs of attack. In fact pits/pit mix account for nearly 80% of all maulings/murders. Prior to 2000 I only saw pits in really poor black and hispanic neighborhoods where they raise them to fight. Its so bad that cities have banned vicious dogs and holding owners responsible for their dogs actions. Thats why many of these dog owners stop registering their dogs so they will not be responsible for their dogs. If you have been out of the field for a good while then count your blessings!
Just to add one more bit of information to your pea brain. Dogs can tell or smell bad people. You must be one of them. Ask anyone.

Betsie is my friend's next door neighbor's dog in a small apartment complex in a small rural town - 14 units. I hope I got those apostrophes correct or Justified will call me an idiot again. I love dogs and other four-legged critters. Sometimes more than humans.

Yes, yukon ended up nutless due to that, maybe? It has been four years now, but I think I need another dog. I honestly believe he or she will add ten years to my life. I'll let you know when I take the plunge. It is a responsibility as you know. Love and hate - love them when I'm home and hate it when I head out of town.
Fred, go to your local Shelter, and pick one out to adopt. I have done that several times, and never regretted it. Six years ago, I adopted a senior dog, mixed/border collie. He was about six years old at the time, and no one wanted him because he was older, and he was black. He was about to be put down because they were out of room. I could not have asked for a better friend. He died recently, and I really miss him. I feel good that I gave him six years. Get one out of the shelter Fred. You will not regret it. Border collies are the smartest. Mine had some of that in her. She was a mutt, like me. Healthiest and and most loyal. I'm not going to bad mouth dog owners, but those high pedigree types are not for me.
Rescue one out of the shelter, and save a life. You will not regret it. Most of the shelters are online, and you can see photo's & other info on the dogs they have. Do a google search, your local shelter probably is on line. Good luck Fred! Pits are bred to toggle into insane rage and kill unpredictively. People around here get them to contribute to their macho image. I don't like the breed. Surprisingly enough I find wolves to be affectionate and stable souls. They get a bad rap because of the way they need to make a living in the wild. People get wolves or wolf hybrids around here to bolster their pretense of being tough characters.

You want to blame someone blame the idiot owner! Your comments here really set the stage, and explains your whole position. They really struck me as odd since I read them earlier today. For me, this video is hard to watch. I have dogs. It's obvious you do not own a dog, at least not one you are fond of. To you they are just animals. One of my dogs likes to sleep in my lap just about all the time. It's a poodle we rescued off the street, with grossly overgrown hair and a piece of barbed wire stuck in her fur. She was quite fearful of us when on the street but still hung out enough for us to catch her and have a local vet clean her up. Perhaps the trauma from a life as a stray is why she likes to sleep in my lap all the time. A bit of PTSD, or whatever it is, in dog terms. You are wrong, Justified. There are dogs worth more than drops of innocent blood. Your statement there is patently false. I'd give drops of my blood if it would bring the dog in the video back to life, and I know I'm not the only one. Of course you wouldn't give anything at all, because you don't like dogs, and maybe even hate them, and that's fine. At least fine for me. It's your loss, really, or maybe you just don't lack companionship. If so, great. But don't tell others what their values should be, or how they are to regard their pets. That is not your place at all. As for "idiot owners", being idiots for letting their dog escape when the door was knocked on, that is simply what happens sometimes with dogs. They get out. Babies poop their pants, and dogs sometimes escape. That's just the way life is. All dog owners know this. Having a 100% clean track record on keeping dogs captive is simply not reality. In the case of the video, the dog was killed while on the owner's property, simply because a wussy cop did not have the fortitude that UPS drivers, Pizza delivery guys, mailmen and plumbers apparently do have. Only a cop would pull out a deadly weapon and slay a homeowner's pet. Anyone else would deal with it some other non fatal way. Was the cop really in a life threatening situation? If the dog had his shots, then there was no serious risk at all to the cop. But no, the risk of a scratch or a minor bite, assuming that was even a real risk which it probably wasn't, was just too much for this cop to bear. Why, because the moment he drew his weapon, he proved he was a wus. These owners may never forgive this cop for what he did, and certainly they will hold animosity against all cops because of the actions of this one. You can say it was the home owners fault, but at the end of the day, one family and probably more in that community, will despise cops all the more because of this cowardly incident, and that is bad for the cops.
