Good movie but inaccurate (the British did not lock people in churches and set them afire - they took Nazi atrocities and had those be Redcoat atrocities) and fictionalized war with fictionalized characters. Also, Gibson's character was not a patriot but a revenge seeker. His son was the patriot who was killed which set off Gibson's character in the classic Mel Gibson crazy killer mode. That was the criteria I used. Accuracy. There are plenty of entertaining but inaccurate movies out there - just not the criteria I was using.
