How did Jeb Bush get more support then Donald Trump? That makes no sense.

Who are the dummies who voted for Graham? He is way to high.

Jeb Bush may be an establishment candidate, may be a globalist, may be unapologetically in favor of amnesty for illegal immigrants, may be, well, a Bush, but at least he's not a cartoon character, as is Trump.

3.5 Donald Trump

JESUS!

How embarrassing would it be to come in after THAT gas bag?

Although when you think about it for a few minutes Trump might be just the guy America needs. After all,NOBODY knows more about going bankrupt without going broke than Trump.

Which admittedly is setting the bar pretty freaking low.

Who cares what they say? Free Republic is Cruz Central. They were destined to tear down whomever came in first place in today's straw poll, unless it was miraculously Cruz. Paul, Carson, Bush, even Walker, they would be insulting any that dared place first over St. Ted. Walker used to be somewhat popular there, but since his recent surge, the Cruzbots are palpably afraid of him, and are smearing him there now too. They're a pathetic, disgusting bunch, bent on tearing down anyone that isn't Cruz, a lot like Palin supporters on Free Republic circa 2011.

Now, if Cruz had won today, it would have been a completely natural, organic and perfect win, and proof that conservatives are rallying behind his holiness.

Graham has been publicly flirting with a presidential run in 2016. John McCain has been quoted as saying he's the one pushing Graham to run.

Which means, I guess, that the 0.1% was McCain voting at CPAC, because he's about the only one who wants to see a Graham GOP presidential primary run.

So the voters were allowed to select a first-choice and a second-choice.

The Paul people supposedly discovered that they could make Paul their first- and second-choice. I heard that this supposedly made a difference but I'm not sure that's how it worked. This is part of the usual Paulbots-cheated accusations that are so familiar.

0.3 Former Gov. Mike Huckabee
0.3 Former Ambassador John Bolton

So this would be 8-10 actual ballots cast for them.

0.1 Sen. Lindsey Graham
0.1 Former Gov. George Pataki

3 votes? Was that Graham, McStain, and Lieberman voting for Lady Lindsey?

The poll has proven to rarely be an accurate indicator of who will win the nomination the year before an election. This proved true for Ron Paul after he won the straw poll in 2011.

Paultards have always bused in organizers to CPAC. This year was no exception. It was Paul's to lose. I am surprised Paul only edged out Walker by a few points, since Walker has no organization yet and did not bus in groups of supporters.

Paul fans dominated the crowd. By 11 a.m., young Paul supporters in red “I Stand with Rand” T- shirts were distributing buttons and posters outside the ballroom.

The crowd at CPAC never has been representative of the broader GOP electorate.

Paul’s views on national security, the war on drugs, and several other issues already put him at odds with multiple factions of the GOP — including many older voters, a large and crucial constituency during the primaries and caucuses.

Walkers performance was impressive, you need to pay attention to that.

The crowd at CPAC never has been representative of the broader GOP electorate.

It is an event for college students. It is not an event for party honchos and the usual suspects.

Even so, CPAC's polls have managed to become even less credible over the years. AFAIK, the Paul faction have routinely hammered voting every year. The Paul supporters will stand in a line for hours to cast a vote where the majority of others won't hang out that long and choose to go to parties and other events.

The idea that the CPAC straw poll means something to anyone, anywhere in the country, is laughable.

Absolutely. CPAC is overrated and while the straw poll gets attention, experience has shown that it's meaningless.

Jeb bused in supporters from K street and DC to cheer and hit the poll. He was still a dismal failure. No one wants him. I don't know of a single person who will vote for him.

The same could have been said for the Stain in 2007 and Romney in 2011. But lots of people still ended up voting for them after they seized the nomination. Unfortunately, Jeb and his army of coerced consultants know this full well.

/sigh

It does sound like sour grapes once you really think about it.

CPAC did not tabulate or announce the result of the second-choice on the ballot.

Nor is there any rational way to pretend that picking Paul as their second-choice in any way was tabulated into voting for Paul as their first-choice.

So, at most, this could only raise Rand's numbers for the runner-up title. And CPAC has these votes in their spreadsheets/database so they could quickly eliminate these second-choice votes quite easily if they wanted to. The Paulbots had no way of assuring that their second-choice Paul vote would even be accepted.

Anyway, I can't conceive of CPAC's votes working any other way. And the second-choice winner was not even announced AFAIK.
