mayor attacked

Kinloch, Missouri – Theda Wilson, the former mayor of a Missouri town says that she was assaulted by police after she called 911 to report a burglary in her apartment complex.

“In the back of my apartment I called 9-1-1 thinking they were going to help,” Wilson said.

Unfortunately, “help” is rarely what actually arrives when the police are called, as Wilson soon found out.

As the police arrived, Wilson approached them and let them know that a suspicious person was seen going in and out of a nearby building. That is when police told her that she was under arrest, and instead of explaining anything they moved to physically apprehend her.

Naturally, not knowing why she was being arrested she resisted their physical contact and was assaulted as a result. After the scuffle Wilson took photos of bruises on her face and arms.

An eyewitness said, “The three officers wrestled her to the ground. That did not need to happen.”

Wilson was taken to a nearby hospital in an ambulance and treated her for the injuries inflicted during the scuffle. Although Wilson was not taken to prison, she was formally arrested and released on her own recognizance from the hospital.

Captain Dan Clyne of the Bel-Ridge Police Department told reporters that the police officers did what they had to do to get handcuffs on her, and that he was told that she was resisting arrest. However, they should need an actual reason to arrest someone before they charge them with resisting arrest.

“Well, they are not supposed to beat anybody. I’m told that they attempted to place you in handcuffs and you resisted. They got you in handcuffs, you were placed in a car, and a far as they were concerned, they thought it was done,” Captain Dan Clyne said.

During the encounter, Wilson demanded that the officers read her rights, but the officers refused and informed her that they were actually not required to do that.

The entire ordeal was caught on video, and now the Bel-Rigdge police department says that they are investigating the issue.

According to the Riverfront Times, Wilson and her supporters went to the Kinloch Police Department Friday morning to get answers, but officers blocked the driveway to the department and ordered them to stop filming. A quick Vine clip of that encounter can be seen below.

Why would she have to be the Mayor to grab your attention in the first place?

Interim mayor tries to lock down Kinloch

The alleged interim mayor of Kinloch tried to lock down the city hall and police department, at 5650 Jones Ave., on Tuesday to address what she described as “corrupt practices” and “to restore citizens’ trust” in the government, she said.

Interim mayor and alderwoman Theda Wilson said that the Kinloch city manager and other city officials have been uncooperative in providing documents and financial information to the aldermen.

On Tuesday Wilson planned to call an emergency meeting with the board to address these concerns but was unsuccessful.

“There have been a lot of violations,” Wilson said. “Money is going places where I have no knowledge of.”

In October, St. Louis County Circuit Judge Steven Goldman ruled that former Kinloch Mayor Darren Small had forfeited his office when he pleaded guilty to a felony count of failing to pay child support. The Kinloch Board of Aldermen then appointed alderwoman Theda Wilson to serve as interim mayor.

However, City Manager Justine Blue said that Wilson was voted out of her office on Dec. 17.

“Theda Wilson is not the interim mayor,” Blue said. “She just doesn’t want to accept that.”

Wilson said the city manager, who is former mayor Small’s cousin, called an emergency meeting soon after Wilson complained that the city’s police department “ignores her calls for service.”

In a phone interview with the St. Louis American, Alderwoman Evelyn Carter said that Kinloch has another mayor and a “president” that replaced Wilson. When The American asked who those people were, she said residents have to come to the Board of Aldermen meetings to find out. She refused to provide names.

The American has submitted a Sunshine Law inquiry to the city manager requesting the board minutes from Dec. 17, when those decisions were made. The city has not yet responded. City Attorney James Robinson also declined to comment on Tuesday. Robinson is legally representing Small, who has appealed Judge Goldman’s order to the Missouri Court of Appeals.

Wilson said that the former mayor is still using a city vehicle. Wilson is concerned that Blue has refused to provide information about Small’s vehicle and other city expenses to the board, she said. Blue declined comment on Wilson’s accusations.

“This is not shining a positive light on the city,” Wilson said. “My goal is to do what is proper.”

she was not the Mayor!!!

Former Mayor.

Does that really make a difference?

You know cops are out of control when even a former mayor isn't safe from these thugs.

She called 911 - cops arrived - she was assaulted and arrested. For no crime.

What part of that do you have a problem with?

How refreshing!

And here we have Gatlin trying to paint her as a criminal.

No doubt as to what his agenda is.

Former Mayor.

Former unelected temporary interim Mayor pretending to be the current Mayor.

On Tuesday morning, Wilson again tried to shut down City Hall and ask for county police assistance, but this time she was rebuffed because she is not the lawful mayor, Ludwig said.

Wilson also emailed a news release to reporters on Tuesday, saying she would “lock down” City Hall and the police department that afternoon. She had planned on placing chains with padlocks over the doors, she said.

This is almost too funny. Apparently, this woman somehow victimized these local costumed heroes of justice so they were forced to slap the bitch around because she was "asking for it". Or something like that.

The cops were likely correct. I don't know of any state that requires Miranda unless you are being interrogated by police. A simple arrest may not involve a formal interrogation.

Miranda isn't a requirement unless LE plans on using anything she says against her in a court of law.

If they arrest her based on "direct knowledge"... the charge is only supported by police observation and not "oral admissions" ... and no Miranda would be necessary. Obstructing a police investigation and resisting would be a direct knowledge charge(s).

People watch too much TV. Articles written in such a bias and slanted way only perpetuates ignorance regarding police policy and protocol.

She threatened to padlock the police department closed if they didn't do as she demanded, as interim Mayor. The community wasn't going to allow her the venue of interim Mayor, to act out her nut behavior. I don't blame them.

Did she identify herself as the mayor,or did the reporter identify her (in a honorary manner) as the mayor?

Even retired police and fire chiefs still get called "Chief".

And because she WAS a mayor, she wasn't lying IF she did identify herself as a mayor.
