It appears that there is very little interest in the RIP Goldi ping list. I am going to delete it.

Re: the closing of LP...
Apologies for requesting info that is probably old news to most already here; but, the last I heard, sysadmin was planning to continue LP for the foreseeable future with the possibility of it being taken over by someone else; and, that a few potential takers-over had already offered proposals of sorts. Am wondering what happened since then that caused the decision to close completely...
Thanks for the replies. I sort of understand the reasoning from Neil's an sysadmin's standpoint with all the bickering; but, it's a shame for the archives to also be closed. There's a lot of good info there that anyone familiar with the site could retrieve. In other words, the archives could be used as a reference source, for some, at least...
Regardless, this seems to be a well organized and run forum; so, I'm sure all will work out for the best...
Just curious, I missed whatever announcement was made about voting for something. Was the voting about who would become owner?

I agree with you, packbot. Lots and lots of good debate and discussions down the rat hole. Not sure, but it seems they might still be available (at some point in time) according to the last few things sysadmin posted.
Regardless, this seems to be a well organized and run forum;
Just wait until A K A Stone gets off his meds and shows his true colors. So far, he's been on his best behavior and I like him for that.

Well the choices for voting were the following:
-tpaine
-Pericles
-sysadmin continues
-shut down
The first two choices did not sit well with many. Kind of like the presidential candidate choices Americans have been getting since 1988. And 3&4 choice was like not voting or voting for a third party:)
So sysadmin saw no winners and shut the site down. Bickering had something to do with it, but I think he did not want the legal issues for continuing the site.

That was but one of four choices. If I recall correctly tpaine and Pericles both offered to assume ownership with respective conditions. However much of the consideration for all choices was over finding a suitable new Moderator. I don't recall that anyone volunteered for that duty.
