The Twinkees overused their wonder boy Sano. He sat the past two games and will probably be out tonight. Strained something.
Love it...watching the Mets game on ESPN with sonny boy (he just finished homework of course); just finished listening to the pukey ESPN announcers admit they all predicted the Nats would take the division. "We never saw this coming" "Who would have thought?" Trying hard to make this collapse as surprising.
Can't wait for a game when the Mariners play on ESPN. That was another team they gushed over early in the season.

here is some 20-20 hindsight. Yesterday Giradi did not use his 2 big BP options because they have been used a lot ,and he probably wanted them fresh for the 4 game series against the Jays starting tonight .
However ,we are in the middle of a rain event here ,and there is more than a good chance that today will be a wash out . The matchup scheduled is Severino v Price . Neither team is going to want to waste their top pitchers in a rain delayed or suspended game . We saw this weather front moving in all day yesterday . So should Giradi have thrown the dice and run Betances and /or Miller out to try to preserve what was then a tie knowing the Jays were losing ? He instead used Warren for 47 pitches in the loss, which means he will probably not be able to be a starter in the Jays series. After Severino ,the Yanks have yet to announce their rotation for the series . It is probable that Tanaka will go Sunday on a normal rest . CC won't pitch. Nova and Pineda will probalby fill the remaining 2 slots .
The only suprise in the Jays rotation is Saturday they will use Marcus Stroman who is coming off an ACL injury that kept him on the DL all season.
Wondering how many Yanks fans who have tix for Saturday's game know that Fox picked the game up and it now has a 1:05 start time instead of the 4:30 start time on the ticket ?
Perez struggled. He and Chirinos should know not to pitch Kyle Seager an inside fastball when ahead of the count. No reason to do so. Last night was Chrinos' first start since coming off the DL. Maybe he needs some BP time with the pitchers because a lot has changed since he was gone. Plus he does not look 'all there' yet.
Well the clash of aces today. Holland vs. Hernandez. I think a day game so will miss it.
All told, we are back where we were a few days ago. Down 2 in the AL West. Up 1.5 in the 2nd WC. We could have picked up on the Yankees last night.
Today we either lose 1/2 game or gain a 1/2 game on Stros and Twinkies. Both are off today.
That moved through my area yesterday afternoon and evening, we didn't get a whole lot from it. It kept breaking up and would only lightly rain for short periods of time, very little accumulation.

It's a rainout and they screwed the ticket holders for today's game. The game will be part of a single admission double headers Saturday. Tickets for today's game will not be honored . They can be traded in for tickets next year .Also today was supposed to be Babe Ruth Bobblehead day . That will be rescheduled too . Double headers usually are split which is not good for the Yanks . They need to take 3 of 4 of this series. And I wonder what the line ups will be . The Yanks are a veteran team and have too many players who can't play two.
Meanwhile it's a football night tonight . I hear it could raining hard in Foxboro too. That means the new extra point rules may become a factor.
Yeah listened to the end of the game heading home from work in a nice Texas summer thunderstorm:)
Josh getting knee surgery. He's out.
Beltre and Fielder both need a couple of days off.
Crunch time. Will be interesting how Banister manages the down the stretch.

Something like that .The extra point will be kicked from the 15 yard line with two point conversions remaining at the 2-yard line.
The defense now have the ability to score two points on returns. Previous an extra point was dead on a failed try. So much for the NFL trying to limit collision plays
So ball placed on the 15. Then kicked 5-7 yards behind the line of scrimmage. Then 10 yards deep in the end zone. So yeah like a 30 or more FG.

This one has got me shaking my head, if the surgery is that minor (the team thinks he will be back before the end of the season) why didn't he get it done when he went on the DL a month ago???
Beltre and Fielder both need a couple of days off.
Neither one should play over 145-150 games a year to keep them fresh and off the DL. Guess the pressure of WINNING RIGHT THIS SECOND is too much for the management...
How do you propose on getting to the end of a dark tunnel when the light goes out at the 1/2 way point...
The Yanks are a veteran team and have too many players who can't play two.
All you can do is play them in which ever game you think you can win, hopefully it's the first one. That way if you get a big lead by the 3rd or 4th you can pull some of them and try to use them in the 2nd game...

Guess it didn't feel too hurt back then. With Josh anything is possible.

Good point. Even though they went 5-5 on this road trip and looked tired and gimpie, they are still sitting in a good position to make a final run on the division and 2nd WC. At this point slumps will be slumps and it is 90% management and coaching the rest of the way.

I guess I wasn't too clear I should have said when he first went on the DL with the knee he said he was going to have to get surgery done on it but was going to have to wait until the off season. But now it seems like it was more of a molehill than the mountain he made it out to be, which is why I said he should have done it a month ago...
They've played 139 games this year so far, Andrus has played 137, Fielder 135, Beltre 120 but was out over 2 weeks with the hand, Choo 126 cause he couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with his bat for awhile but has been hitting much better for the last 2-3 months.
Colby was perfect through 7. Good deal. Now he is trying to save the shutout.

Now have Gallardo and Chi Chi to finish out the weekend. Colby gets to pitch against the Stros too I believe.

Twinkies face the Angels same time we face the Astros. All sorts of scenarios coming out of that one.

Sweeping a double header is rare these days. So Yanks will probably gain back a game.

Fielder has only four hits in his last 40 at-bats, dropping his batting average from .341 to .306.
"I'm not looking at numbers regardless of what the results are," Fielder said. "I'm just controlling my mindset and controlling trying to get a good pitch to hit."
And swinging at inside pitches that would have hit you if you weren't bailing out and swinging at the same time...
Another LHer (on a bad team) does them in cause they have no RH bats that can hit the ball on a consistent basis...
You would have thought Gallardo would have been pulled when he gave up the 1st HR and showed he had no command of his fastball whatsoever...

Well Banister is listening to you Zig.
Mike Napoli starting in LF today. He never played the position as a pro. Let's see how that works out.

a glimmer of hope . Tanaka earned his $ today . He gave them innings in a shut out win. 3 1/2 games behind after this disastrous weekend BUT .............
The glimmer of hope . 1) The Yank offense did not fail them ...it was the rotation . Pitchers like Severino and even Pineda and Nova have not looked as bad as they did this weekend so they need to rebound.
2) The Jays look like an ordinary team without Tulowitzki and Encarnacion in their lineup. Tulowitzki is out 2 weeks . Encarnacion is day to day .
The Yanks need to stay in the hunt into next weekends series . You gotta believe !
Loads can happen. I see that whoever is competitive and competing today will most likely hang tough to the end.
The Ranger bats were silent for a week and today Beltre is 2-3 2 HRs and 5 RBI. Fielder is 2-3 and Choo is 2-2 with a BB and HR.
Just in time for the Astros to come to town.
LOL and my old Mets are beating teams in the later innings. Papa redleghunter is smiling:)

Yes he is . Remember sitting with him cheering on the Giants in the bad old days when the Giants were the most pathetic team in the league .
Then he came to Long Island in 86 because the women were having a baby shower for my wife . So we went to the apartment I was renting and watched the Giants against the Vikes .The Giants were losing late in the game 2019 with 72 seconds left in the fourth quarter at the Minnesota .Then Phil Simms completed a desperation fourth and 17 to Bobby Johnson for a first down . Then the Giants won the game on Raul Allegre's 5th field goal of the game. From then on ,the Giants dominated . The Giants won their first Super Bowl one week before my daughter was born. I've always given a big assist to Pappa redleghunter

Mike Napoli starting in LF today. He never played the position as a pro. Let's see how that works out.
NOTHING IN LEFT
The Rangers had lost five of their previous six games against left-handed starters, so Banister did what he could to get his best hitters in the lineup. That included slugger Mike Napoli getting his first professional action in left field. Napoli played the first five innings in left without getting a ball hit his way before going to his usual position, first base. Napoli then had a fielding error on a grounder in the sixth.
He got on base 3 times which gave Evis and Roogie someone to drive it which is better than the other LFers have been doing...
I'm really surprised he didn't play Rua since he had been doing so well at RR but this worked out so what the heck...
Just looked at the roster for tonight's game and he's got Naps in LF again and batting 5th against the LHer Kazmir... This just goes to show you how little Bannister trusts the other RHers on the roster and especially the ones in the OF... That has got to be something that is addressed in the off season...
Altuve just took Hamels deep for a 1-0 lead in the 1st... If Hamels can keep the ball in the park he can beat the Astros. The Astros are the quintessential young team, low batting average and a lot of HRs, all or nothing no patience... Young teams also like to pick on the heeter so if he has good offspeed stuff tonight he should cut thru them like a hot knife thru butter...
Nap dropped his first fly ball tonight. Led to an unearned run. But Mitch and Fielder went yard. With base runners!

Hamels kept them in the game. Kela got a huge out (Altuve) going behind 3-1. Nap was taken out in the 7th for Stubbs. And #BigBoy went deep.
Tolly closed it out with a great no out double play by Roogie. Then he smoked Rasmus.
Exciting game. Sonny boy had to hit the hay while game was tied. Nice good morning note for him tomorrow. :)

Watched the game till Rangers let Houston tie it at 3, figured after that easy run they would figure out a way to lose so said heck with it and went to sleep... (Some of us Non-Democrat voters have to work for a living you know)...
Hamel's did alright pitching against a team he's never seen before, their roster has turned over almost completely since 2012. Threw way too many fastballs to those young hitters but got away with most of them. His heeter doesn't have a whole lot of movement to it kinda flat and easy to hit if it isn't in the right location...
But Mitch and Fielder went yard. With base runners!
It was nice that the Leftys broke thru against a LH pitcher for a change, especially against Kazmir who normally gives them fits... 1-2 more decent RH bats would really help...
Watched the game till Rangers let Houston tie it at 3,
Don't worry. I gave up on the Boys the other night when they handed the Jints another turnover. Then get a phone alert Romo pulled out a come back:)
