Not a bad outing for Bass.

I'm not giving up yet it's so early in Spring Training you never know who might be released by another club they can pick up. Or if they are close come the trade deadline you never know who could be available for a decent price.

It's beginning to look like they are going to keep him to start the season. He might end up being a late bloomer like Cruz was.

I watched the game the other night and Ludwick looks lost at the plate, look for him to be released.

Good 'outside' report from MLB.com.

Was not following some of the observations they made.

Looks like from their analysis Rua will start in Left. Did not know he was a 'four corner' guy. That is great. He can give Adrian a few days off and let him DH a bit.

Big boy too. Looked at his swing. Looks a lot like Koozie:)

Wish him well. Maybe we have a shot this year if some of the youngsters step up. Plus if we don't literally 'sell the farm' we are going to have a solid team for years to come.

Hope Gallo goes to AAA Round Rock. Not far from us and would add a great motivator to get the boys there to watch a slugger put one in the parking lot:)

If you view the web page I posted it explains why they want him to make the team this spring, he's so versatile. LF, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, I figure they will try him out in RF to see how he does...

Which means if he is hitting well he will be in the lineup somewhere, and will make it much easier for them to give days off to the other guys.

I watched the game the other night and Ludwick looks lost at the plate, look for him to be released.

SURPRISE, Ariz. – The Rangers informed veteran Ryan Ludwick on Thursday that he won’t make the club, which all but means that a rookie – either Ryan Rua or Jake Smolinski – will win the job.

SURPRISE, Ariz. – RHP Nick Martinez made a strong bid to nail down the one unspoken for spot in the Rangers’ starting rotation Thursday with six shutout innings in a 6-3 win over Colorado. It was the longest outing by a Rangers’ pitcher this spring. Martinez has now pitched 8.2 consecutive scoreless innings in major league exhibitions.

Just read that article. Thanks. Maybe this is the year where the Rangers have some rookie surprises. Also saw Nick Martinez threw 6 shutout innings and did some good fielding as well.

So he will most likely be #5.

As of this moment I would think so unless someone else goes down with an injury. Gallardo, Holland, Detwiler, Lewis and Martinez.

BTA Renaudo did a pretty god job yesterday in his 6 innings pitched, only 2 runs.

Kinda makes me wonder what they are going to do with Ohlendorf, especially now that he's having groin issues. I kinda figured him to be long reliever and 6th starter if needed cause it looks like Jamey Wright is done.

They also have to make a decision on what to do with Schierholtz today, put him on the roster or let him walk. They seem to want to keep De Shields and he would have to be on the active roster too. Maybe they can do a trade with Houston for Shields to get rid of the Rule 5 tag, that would give them much more flexibility. Also have heard Richardson who is on the active roster needs back surgery so that makes another option.

Update:

Martinez is going to be the 5th starter, Jamey Wright and Schierholtz were released, and they acquired a LHP from the Cardinals named Sam Freeman (stats look OK) so would imagine Claudio is going back to the minors.

Good news

Well there doesn't seem to be any in the battle for long reliever. They released Jamey Wright he's done, Tepesch ERA is above 10, Bonilla ERA is above 9 and Ohlendorff will probably go on the DL for awhile. Nobody else has been stretched out to do long relief unless they decide to use Renaudo, who just got sent to the minors.

On top of that Scheppers doesn't look like he's ready either with only 4 innings pitched and an ERA over 12. If he doesn't start the year in the minors to get some innings I will be surprised, that's if he has any options left.

Looks like Bonilla just let the Royals hang a 7 spot on him in the 1st inning with a Grand Salami as the "Pièce de résistance". Wonder what his ERA is now considering it was 9 before, too much anyway.

You know I'm beginning to wonder if it's the pitchers or the pitches the catchers/bench are calling for?

Yes, experienced, veteran catching is a huge weakness of the team. At least Soto knew the ropes.

Why? Teams are employing defensive shifts. Umpires are calling lower strikes. And pitchers are throwing harder than ever.

Great piece, thanks.

Great thing about baseball is the hitters will make adjustments.

The pitchers are burning themselves out with this velocity. The DL shows.

Had my first practice with the kiddo team today. Good contact good arms, now need a couple to control their pitches. We will get there. Have a month before first game.
