Which means they could very easily lose all 13 games since their starting pitching isn't that good and the Blue Jays are the highest scoring team in the majors.

yes possibly

But not very probable considering they have a decent team as you pointed out...

BTA didn't they go thru a 10-12 game losing streak earlier this year??? Some teams are what they are good or bad and some play way over/under their potential, you just never know.

Just like last night the Rangers were facing the Giants and LH pitcher Bumgarner, they have big issues with Lefties but they jumped all over him for 6 runs early to win the game, you just never know...

The biggest issue (even if they play well) I see is there are what 5-6 teams ahead of them for that spot, guess we'll see what happens.

I guess Harry or some other starter had to go so the Phils have something to finish the season with. What surprises me is Harry was real careful when he batted against the Rockies. Hope he stays healthy doing it every 5 days.

Seen on Quick Pitch in the middle of the night that the Phillies already put Harry on the 15 day DL with what they called "back inflammation"...

Rangers Trade For Reliever At Deadline

Home / KWTX - Sports / Headlines List / Article

The Miami Marlins traded right-handed reliever Sam Dyson to the Texas Rangers on Friday for catcher Tomas Telis and a minor league pitcher.

MIAMI (July 31, 2015) The Miami Marlins traded right-handed reliever Sam Dyson to the Texas Rangers on Friday for catcher Tomas Telis and a minor league pitcher.

Dyson was 3-3 with a 3.68 ERA in 44 appearances for Miami this season. He appeared in 80 games with the Marlins over the last three seasons, after breaking into the majors for two games with Toronto in 2011.

Telis has gotten limited action with the Rangers over the last two seasons, playing in 24 games with no home runs and 10 RBIs. He was signed as 16-year-old free agent from Venezuela in 2007, made 18 appearances last season and batted .182 in six games with Texas this year.

Telis will report to Miami. The Marlins also got left-hander Cody Ege, who was sent to Double-A Jacksonville.

Speaking of trades they snuck this one in within 5 minutes of the deadline.

After this weekend the Yanks have no more road trips out of the eastern time zone ;and play the majority of their remaining games at home .

Right now the Yanks are 13 over .500 which mean if they play .500 ball the rest of the season they'll have 94 wins .... probably enough to hold off their east div challengrs (only concern is 13 head to head games against Toronto).

They can win those 94 game. Might be good enough for a Wild Card. But thanks to GM Brian Cashman, they secured NO starting pitching for a staff already susceptible to injury, incompetence, and inconsistency.

The Yankees may score runs, but come the playoffs we know all that changes. In the recent past (the 2000s) the Yanks have nearly always been near the top in runs scored. Those bats went silent against playoff team starting pitching. And would againt this year. Only Yankee starters would get pounded.

They [the Yanks] could very easily lose all 13 games since their starting pitching isn't that good and the Blue Jays are the highest scoring team in the majors. I wouldn't count on them making the playoffs if I were you, especially since they had to put CC back in as a starter since Pineda went to the DL.

All true...

BUT, conversely the Bombers *could* beat up on the Jays, who've always had problems beating Yanks. Some team just have others' number. Yeah, I know this Jays team is altogether different, locked and loaded. But they still have their own pitching problems. David Price is just ONE starter. They did pick up great pen help -- Mark Lowe as well.

Considering all the moves made by all the teams, this looks like a stretch run that'll be memorable for whomever gets hot. OR fade. And that really could be ANY one. (Remember the A's epic fade last year?? And the Royals epic run?)

you just never know...

Indeed. But there is one sure thing. Putting in Scheppers in the 8th with base runners and the middle of the order at bat. Result, his third blown game this year. Dude needs a Detroit zip code like Feliz. Make matters worse, the Rangers finally sent Kela to RR to give him a break.

Oh, forgot to mention...Feliz gave up a grand slam in his first Detroit appearance a couple of weeks ago.

If Schep is not a DFA by Monday morning JD and Banny need to get their heads examined. Mendez down at AAA RR can do a better job.

Of course. His insurance policy was probably transferred to Philly. They lose no money putting him on DL and then figure out how to dump him or make the Rangers pay out the remaining year. I'm sure that will happen or some of Hamels cash goes back to Philly.

Really scratched my head at Harry going.

After watching Dyson give up the lead in extra innings, I'd say we got what we paid for:) Not much in the way of improvement for the BP. Ain't going to get better anytime soon either. All the contenders have the good relievers now. Either promote from minors and roll the dice and wait for the off season market.

Surprised Mendez and Jackson have not come up yet. Guess after the mega Hamels deal slim pickings at AAA and AA.

I'm pretty sure he has options left, he really needs to work on his control he's up high and constantly missing the target. First batter he faced the target was low and inner half, he went high outer half Duffy took it to deep right and then it was on.

They are enamored with his 95+ fastball and think he can find himself in the majors. But he just isn't doing it so he needs to go back to work on his control before he runs out of options and then they have to let him go.. You have to remember he was one hell of a pitcher back in 2013 (1.88 ERA in 76 games) and he's only 28.

Moving on.... If that nimrod Andrus wouldn't have gotten his ass picked off 3rd back in the 4th inning you probably wouldn't have even seen Scheppers. Cause they would have been up at least 1-2 more runs (DD hit a fly to left that would have scored him).

When is he ever going to get his head in the game?? He's hitting right now but giving it back in shoddy defense and bad base running. The next hangnail he gets they need to put him on the 15 day DL and bring Alberto up to play SS, maybe that will get the point across that he needs to get his head out or he's history. Especially if Alberto plays as well if not better than he did when he was called up earlier. And he's doing an outstanding job in AAA this year hitting .326 w/ a .469 slugging percentage.

You know I wonder just exactly how many games the team as a whole has lost because of really dumb decisions?? I thought Banny was brought in to fix this problem cause he's a "guru in the basics"??? Guess he either isn't or they aren't paying attention...

I just went back and looked at some of the "lowlights" of the game and the defense they were playing in the 8th probably caused him to give up those last 2 runs.

I think they call that alignment they played "No doubles" (misnomer I would say). If Martin had been playing at normal depth he would have gotten to Posey's popup instead of it falling for "a double". That would have been the 3rd out and left the score 7-5 Texas. Another dumb mistake by the coaching staff!!

From what I seen of the deal the Phillies are picking up "ALL" of Harry's contract and about 9-10 million of Hamels contract...

Harry is a decent pitcher when he is on so they will probably see if they can use him while they rebuild since his contract is only about 11 million.

He's your typical 6th or 7th inning pitcher and was brought in to help get the rest of the BP some rest (Like Kela for example) he is what he is.

His stats from last year are pretty decent 2.14 ERA in 42 innings pitched and this year is 3.68 for 44 innings...

My beef about this is he's only a rental (as of this time) and JD gave up 2 prospects for him!!!

Good thing they got Diekman with Hamels or this deal would have been even worse. He is a decent relief pitcher who had a rough start to the season (108.00 ERA... :o )but has been pretty decent since the beginning of May. From what I've seen he uses his "heeter" to go right after the batter, used 21 pitches to get 6 outs. Hell most everybody else in the pen would use 21 pitches to get 1-2 batters out...

Well you partially got your wish they put him on the 15 day DL with what I would assume is "Fake knee inflammation". So he'll get some rest and a 30 rehab to get his schitt together. If they plan on making a run in Sept they'll need him pitching well.

Went to the Reds game today (they lost of course) and they had a 10-15 minute or so scrum late in the game over hit batters. It all started yesterday and carried over into today, in fact Melancon got tossed in the 9th over him hitting a batter.

I was sitting down close to the field and yelled "IF you aren't going to kick each others asses why don't you get back into the dugouts and let your play do the talking"!! Don't know if any of the players heard me or not but a bunch of fans did and they got a chuckle over it... LOL...

Well we know what we need in the off season. RH bat and relief pitching.

It seems to me they need a change in pitching strategy before we need to blow up the BP, BTA I could be full of ca ca... :)

We have plenty of RH bats but it seems like none of them are hitting or can hit. So it seems to me they are the ones who need to be replaced first, RH for RH. The first places I would start are at catcher and the left side of the IF and then on the bench. And since you want to get rid of Choo then I would get a LHer to replace him or better yet a switch hitter.

Choo has a much stronger arm than DD so that is why he stays in.

If the pitcher hits his target and the coaching staff doesn't put them in a dumb defense then Choo is adequate, as long as he's hitting HRs and driving in at least 50-60 RBIs...

Choo is doing enough to keep him in the graces of JD and Banny.

I remember seeing him with the Reds and how he used to spread the ball all over the OF and get on base. Now it seems he is trying to kill the ball on every at bat.

If Choo and Beltre can have a great August and September it could change the team dynamics a lot.

He also hit 20+ HRs with the Reds. Maybe they are asking him to supply a little more power or pull the ball more, I wouldn't think so but just don't know what's been asked of him. (Batters/pitchers get screwed up all the time cause the coaches just couldn't leave well enough alone).

BTA maybe he thinks he needs to do more to earn that big paycheck (which is true to some extent) and has decided on his own to go with something different than what got him there, which is a mistake.

To me there are 3 types of contracts one is you are getting paid for what you do consistently, the 2nd is you are getting paid for what the management "thinks" you're capable of, and the 3rd is management has absolutely no clue what they are doing.

Seems we will have a shoe string catching crew for a while longer:

Rangers catching situation remains catch-as- catch can

The minors are bankrupt catcher options for the foreseeable future with Telis and Alfaro gone. They just created another off season need. Unless they just go with Chirinos.

Catchers

Alex Avila (29)

Chris Iannetta (33)

John Jaso (32)

George Kottaras (32)

Jose Molina (41)

Dioner Navarro (32)

Brayan Pena (34)

A.J. Pierzynski (39)

Matt Wieters (30)

Here is the list of potential catcher free agents this off season... Since they traded 7 prospects away (when I think could have gotten the job done with 5) I don't think they will go the trade route so that only leaves FA...

If you look at the stats and age Dioner Navarro seems to be the best one available, he's a switch hitter.

Beltre hit for the cycle by the 5th inning:) Good deal. Hope this means he is finally in his mid summer tear.

I'm wondering how long this will last, and will he break the 80 RBI mark??

If not then I would find a RHed youngster to take his place next year for about 500K!!
