Chi Chi did a good job took a no-no into the 5th and lasted for 5-2/3rds, kept his team in the game and gave them the chance to win which they did. Wonder how long they plan on keeping him??

I think he stays like Perez did in 2013 until some of the vet south paws show up. Look for Detwiler to get another shot at a start. How that goes will determine if Chi Chi goes back down.

Frankly I would like to see him go down to work on using less pitches, get his walk rate down and at least endure 7 innings. Once Perez was able to do that, he was lights out.

However, maybe they are taking it easier on the newbies given their experience with Perez.

I think they'll wait till Sept on Joey being called up, Roughie has more experience).

I agree. Bannister is about stats and veteran experience. Rosales is inconsistent at the plate, but when he does hit, he has a very good day.

He had a 4 hit game a few games ago.

Wonder how Odor is doing in AAA RR? Have not heard much on him.

I've been keeping track of his progress, first 2-3 days he was bad but got his "patience" together and has been batting around .300, and close to .400 OBP since. Also has found his power 5 HRs along with cutting his Ks down to next to nothing, in fact just as many Ws as Ks.

Just got done snooping around and no word on who's going to be called up yet, but ESPN Insider agrees with us no Gallo until fall!!

Yea he needs to get control of his 2nd and 3rd pitches to be more effective which means fewer wasted pitches.

The seats are going to get filled a lot more with him on the team.

As long as he doesn't have any more "issues" that will be true.

Looks like his problems in CA stem from him being out of his element, I.E. he missed being in Texas and it affected his mind. He seems to be doing well since he got here all except for he hasn't caught up to any high 90s "heeters" and went yard yet. Once he does that then you can say he's back and he's dangerous, until then not so much.

Looks like we were wrong.

Joey was going to go to AAA yesterday but they told him to keep his apartment for awhile longer and just bring himself to Arlington instead, heard that on Quick Pitch last night right at the end of the show. Read an article this morning that says he will go back to the minors when Beltre is healthy which they said will be 2-4 weeks.

I doubt they will put him in Beltre's spot so look for him to be batting 6th or so, that way no pressure to perform. If he does 1/2 as well as Kris Bryant they may not send him back at all.

As far as I know he's still with the club (he's still on the Active Roster) so look for his next start to be in Kansas City against the Royals on Friday night.

Harrison is starting his rehab assignment tomorrow which means that could last up to 30 days depending on his progress. Perez is starting his extended spring training assignment on June 5th and Holland is playing catch at 60 feet now.

Thanks just saw that too. Hope he does well and gains some valuable experience. He has cut down his K rate but needs more work on it.

Too many Rangers fans in blogsphere are trying to compare Gallo to Trout. Some of the beat writers have to remind them that Trout is one of those 'once in a generation' players.

Wow I missed the live version of the Joey Gallo fireworks. Was running baseball practice tonight.

Joey went 3-4 single, HR, 2B, BB, one K. Knocked in 4 RBI early before the rout. Rangers win 15-2.

Great first game:)

Last at bat was a walk and the relief pitcher gave him nothing to work with.

Seen a graphic on SportsCenter about midnight where he was one of only 4 guys since 1920 whose very 1st night in the bigs went 3-4, homered and got 4 RBIs. And he was the only one who won their debut game, didn't even recognized any of the names of the other 3 and they said none of them played/lasted over 5 years.

They replayed all of his ABs and only on the K did he not look good, swung at a ball in the dirt. So is last night beginners luck or the beginning of a long career, who knows but I would have to guess the later.

Got to thinking about Beltre's contract and why they brought Joey up and found 2015 is the last guaranteed year, 2016 is optional. So I'm thinking that is another reason why they brought him up now when nothing was as stake. Cause if they call him up in Sept and they happen to be in the hunt for the playoffs they wouldn't be tempted to play him very much. Just a thought.

HR

Was 445 feet according to the computer, typical Joey moonball. :) Hope to see those kinda shots with more regularity going forward. And the 2B hit right at the top of the fence another foot or so and he would have hit 2 HRs last night.

Seen they called Smolinski back up last night, hopefully he plays better this time around and allows them the opportunity to give the other OFs a day off here and there although the 8th is another off day.

They lost 9-2 tonight. Martinez gave up 6 ER. Tough night for him.

Hope he is not burnt out with all the 100+ pitch games.

Bright spot was Gallo hit another second deck dinger. He went 1-4 with three strikeouts. Never saw a fastball in the three strike outs. All breakers and change ups. Plus Sale was on the mound.

I was wondering why Josh didn't play Tuesday after having Monday off and now I know why, they just announced on Quick Pitch he has a hamstring strain and will be out 3-4 weeks. (That didn't take long). Looks like he did it during that walk off double.

Also explains why they wanted to see what Joey could do with his bat, looks like he's taking the place of 2 not just one. Also explains why they recalled Smolinski on Sunday night, he was hot at the plate too.

He went 1-4 with three strikeouts.

Well you know Chris Sale is no slouch so three Ks doesn't surprise me, in fact he got Rosales and Smolinski 3 times each. He was hell on all the part time and younger players with his breaking stuff, and the team as a whole has been swinging pretty freely the last 3-4 games. So that explains 16 Ks last night, with Sale getting 13 of them.

About the only bright spots last night were Joey's dinger and DD is still getting on base hitting leadoff. I think their winning percentage with DD as leadoff is somewhere up over .600, will have to do some snooping to confirm this though.

Left-hander Ross Detwiler, starting the transition from the rotation to the bullpen with the Texas Rangers, struggled in his second appearance on a minor-league injury-rehabilitation appearance Tuesday night.

Detwiler allowed three runs and eight base-runners in 1 2/3 innings with Double-A Frisco against Springfield, of the St. Louis organization. He retired only one of the final seven hitters faced, and that came on a sacrifice fly. Detwiler threw 42 pitches, only 23 for strikes.

Rangers general manager Jon Daniels has said that with rookie right-hander Chi Chi Gonzalez in the rotation, the Rangers view Detwiler as a reliever when he returns from the disabled list. He has been out since May 15 because of shoulder inflammation.

Doesn't look like Detwiler is gonna get that shot at another start.

Harrison began his assignment on Wednesday by throwing five innings for Triple-A Round Rock against Reno. Harrison allowed two runs on five hits and a walk while striking out four. He threw 78 pitches. The outing comes on the one-year anniversary of Harrison undergoing spinal fusion surgery to correct back problems that limited him to six Major League starts in 2013-14.

"The back felt good," Harrison said. "My arm felt good. I've got to figure out what I can do to get my velocity back up. I haven't been able to get as much power in my legs. It's not going to happen overnight, but hopefully by the end of the month. I'm getting outs, just a little different way. I threw and got off the field healthy. It was a good day."

Looks like Harrison is getting closer.

Rangers outfielder Delino DeShields is following in his father's famous path. DeShields, son of the former big leaguer with the same name, was tabbed as the American League's Rookie of the Month for May on Wednesday. The younger DeShields batted .296 (24-for-81) with 22 runs scored and 10 stolen bases last month. The younger DeShields, whose father was the runner-up for the 1990 National League Rookie of the Year Award, outpaced all fellow first-year players in the AL in runs, triples (two), steals, walks (15) and on-base percentage (.406) over the past month.

DeShields became the first Texas player to win the AL Rookie of the Month Award since Justin Grimm in April 2013. DeShields walked three times and stole three bases on May 7, which was just the second time that a rookie has managed those twin feats in the same game in the past 23 seasons.

DeShields has made quite an impression on the basepaths, where he became the third rookie in franchise history to steal 10 bases in any calendar month. DeShields fell a home run short of the cycle on May 13, and the Rangers posted a .633 winning percentage in May with the rookie atop the lineup.

I expected Josh to have something early on. I think Banny and JD did as well.

Hamilton ran through 'spring training' a bit quick for a 34 year old man with a history of injury and body abused by drugs. I thought it was too quick, but at the time, the Rangers wanted and needed another bat. Keep him out to heal and then manage him in rehab games.

You did opine such. I agree. Give the kid a few extra days. Have Bass do a spot start to skip Martinez. They did that a few times for Yu in his first and even second year.

I would also consider getting old timer W-Rod a few extra days.

My hope is that Martinez is not starting to run the course of Grimm and Tepesch. However, he has a lot more 'stuff' than they did (do).

Those 100+ pitch games in 5 or 6 innings are hard on the arm. 100+ in 7 or 8 much different.

Buzz mentioned Gallo has only faced A and AA pitching and the stuff he has seen like breaking balls, pro change ups etc. is a first for Gallo. He also mentioned that Sale and the pitchers the night before showed the Rook some respect by pitching around the strike zone.

So if he gets a fast ball, chances are it is gone:)

Wonderful experience for the youngster. He gets to see where he needs to grow and mature facing good MLB pitching. When Beltre gets back, I'm sure Gallo goes to AAA to see closer MLB pitching than he would see in AA.

If he batted 5th last night, he would have been up with the bases loaded in the bottom 8th and a fastball reliever on the mound. Rosales whiffed instead.

I think Banny giving Prince a rest last night was a great call. The one veteran power hitter (minus Mitch) not on the DL. Plus there were signs Fielder was slowing down a bit.

Thanks for the update. Was wondering if he was coming back to start...guess not. Maybe they move Bass or Edwards to a spot start now and then to give some of these pitchers an extra few days off. All these high pitch counts in 5 or 6 innings...something has to give.

The BP has been doing their part for the past three-four weeks. If JD and Banny can keep swapping out fresh arms with the farm, it will work for a bit.

Saw that one of the DFW reporters think that if the Rangers 'buy' at the trade deadline it will be for some reliever help.

FYI:

Red Sox Designate Carlos Peguero

By Jeff Todd [June 4, 2015 at 2:31pm CDT]

The Red Sox have designated outfielder Carlos Peguero for assignment, the club announced (via Tim Britton of the Providence Journal, on Twitter). His roster spot will go to the just-acquired Alejandro De Aza.

Boston added Peguero just over a week ago, and he saw only six plate appearances with his new club. He’s always had plenty of pop — as his 30 Triple- A home runs last year attest — but Peguero strikes out quite a bit while walking only at the league average. Still, his left-handed power bat holds reasonable appeal, though it remains to be seen whether another team will be inclined to give the out-of-options slugger an active roster spot

He needs to go back to AAA and learn to be patient at the plate or he will end up being a career minor leaguer or maybe out of baseball altogether.

If Harrison and Holland are back and doing well and the team is winning then I agree, if not then I think it will be a tossup as to what they do. Maybe even sell, especially if they aren't winning. And if that's the case they just might contemplate moving Beltre to get another starter if Joey is still in Arlington and doing well. I'd hate to lose his presence in the locker room but they are going to get less and less as more time goes by, he is 36 you know.

Will they move Joey up or leave him in 6th, hmmmmm... Guess we'll see.

Tonights lineup has Moreland batting 4th Andrus 5th and Joey in 6th, that could work if "EVIS" can get on base in front of Joey.

You know if Joey homers tonight he will be the only person to homer in his first 3 games in MLB history.

12 hits and only 2 runs I imagine the 13Ks had quite a bit to do with runners being left on base last night. Also had to use 6 pitchers again when probably only 2-3 were required.

And I didn't believe it at first when I read it was they are currently tied for a "Wild Card" position at only 3 games over .500, amazing.

Oh and the dress that got ruined in the PowerAde incident is up for sale, LOL

I think Banny giving Prince a rest last night was a great call. The one veteran power hitter (minus Mitch) not on the DL. Plus there were signs Fielder was slowing down a bit.

You know how I feel about giving players days off, it's a good thing cause the season is so long and such a drag. Especially when it's the dead of summer you're in an enclosed stadium and the temps on the turf are up close to 120.

Looks like they should have let Joey bat 5th last night, he might have seen a few more "heeters"!! LOL...

He did not get a chance as in the bottom of the 11th they issued him IBB.

Quite some respect for the youngster.

LOL...Again, I'm sure Fox Sports appreciated Emily is a conservative woman:) There are a few ladies over at MLB channel which if that happened to them, a commercial break would be required:)

You are not kidding. On father's day 2011 family took me to a RR AAA game. Dads and kids were allowed on the OF grass to play catch. So younger sonny boy and I went down there played catch for a bit and came back drenched running for the lemonade stand.

It was a hot June Texas day game. About 95 (not bad) in the stands. But felt like an oven in that OF. I learned to appreciate the conditioning these guys have for enduring such conditions most of the season.

Yes, Joey came up with bases loaded in his first MLB game. Real pressure situation and I believe he whiffed but was not the last out of the inning.

In game two he missed runners on base and one bases loaded situation with Evis making the last out of the inning. Then he batted first the next inning and knocked one out (his second).

From what I've seen/heard some of the teams are "INTENTIONALLY" targeting other women that are doing the post game/star of the game interviews as Emily does. Will look for a link and send it later.

I know I read that other teams were targeting reporters but now I can't seem to find it...
