10-1. Good game for Gimenez with 3 RBI.

Now on to Felix. Mariners used 7 relievers. Rangers need to get some runs or pitch count up on Felix early.

MLB Channel kept checking in on the game until they got the 5-1 lead then nothing the rest of the night. Looks like they got some of the bench players into the game late, card is fairly long. Noticed Chi Chi closed out the game, I'd bet they did that to see how he would react to coming out of the pen in relief. I'd also bet he will be on the playoff roster if they make it...

Seen A's were up on the Astros 6-3 at one time and figured cool another loss for the Stro's but it didn't end that way. Neither Grey or Kazmir pitched very well but Jake Smolinski had a decent game for a change, he hasn't hit very well all year.

If you have a good balance in your lineup and bench and they can protect each other, you force the other team into using up their pen if they want a chance to win. Rangers don't quite have the balance I would like to see but it seems to be good enough for right now. Especially when Choo and Beltre are just tearing the opposition up. For the last 10 days both are batting right at .500 along with 6 BBs each, and have raised their BAs closed to 20 points. (Looks like all the talking bad we did about them earlier is finally paying off)... :)

I noticed DD looked a little better last night a couple of hits and RBIs, also replaced him later in the game to give him a little rest for today...

Pitchers kept Seager, Cruz and Cano in check again just need to do it again today and they stand a chance at winning the game and series... Then on to Oakland and Houston for 6 on the road...

Twinkies are done lost a DHeader to Angels yesterday too far back now I think to have a chance... Angels go to Houston for 3 starting tomorrow would be nice to see them take 2 of 3... Still haven't decided if Houston or Angels will take final playoff spot

Yankees are beginning to look like they will make the playoffs but still have one more against the Mets and 3 in Toronto to get thru, after that their schedule looks fairly easy...

Brian Cashman said yesterday that as long as the Yanks make the playoffs ,he doesn't care how they do it . It's the final destination that's important . I for one would still be looking to take the division. They will know where they stand after the next 4 games. You will know where they are headed Wednesday .If they pitch Tanaka against the Jays then you'll know they are still going for the division. If not ,then they will be shuffling the line up to make sure he pitches the wildcard game.

Tonight is big. CC v Harvey . Which one will come out of the game 1st ? Would like CC to go deep so the bullpen is fresh Monday . They will know how the Jays did .....who knows ? Maybe the Yanks go into Toronto 2 1/2 out .Stranger things have happened .

Buck Showalter floated the idea of expanding the Sept roster BUT only having 25 active players each game . When you think about it ,no other professional sport changes the rules it plays under during the season ;let alone during the final playoff push month .

Yeah glad Smolinski found somewhere he could play everyday.

Holland having some command issues through 2 innings. No runs as the infield turned two DPs to save his bacon in both innings.

LOL but he struck out Seager:)

Hey Mitch just went yard to center. 1-0.

Yanks beating the Mets soundly after taking out drama boy in the 5th. Wonder how he feels about that.

Yeah the Mariners keep on dogging the Rangers. Might have to call in some rowdy Dallas Stars fans next season to break Kyle Seager's legs:) That weirdo is a one man wrecking crew on Rangers pitchers. Like Chipper Jones and the Mets.

It will be an interesting fight to the end in the West.

Angels and Stros duke it out this week. Twinkies have it easy the rest of the way.

LOL tough day for the Boys too. Win the game but Romo out for most of the season.

Hey maybe they pick up Tebow as a back up for Weeden:)

Angels-Astros this week. Do we want the Stros to finish off the Angels or the Angels taking down the Stros? We can expect I think one team to win two of three which pretty much keeps things the way they were.

Twins have an easy road until KC for last season series. Will KC be resting starters or fighting for home field?

Will be interesting all the way to October.

Looks like the ugly inning ended up being the 5th put the game pretty much out of reach...

Something I've never figured out is when the starting pitcher is having major control issues why do they keep him out there? I can see why when the rosters are only 25, (but now they have 40) come on they should have had somebody warmed up and ready to go the top of the 5th, somebody who could go 2 innings or so...

Yes, after Seager got on base they should have brought in Nick Martinez.

So will be quite a fight to the finish now in the AL West.

Rangers can't play footsie with the A's. They have to at least win that series and if they want a chance to gain back a game, they have to sweep. I think we get Sonny Gray on Thursday.

Rangers have a much better record against the Stros (12-4) than the Angels (5-10) so you should probably root for the Stros...

They have a good line, vaunted ehhh not so much, especially the way they call penalties these days... The line can only do so much it's up to the QB to get rid of the ball quickly and the RBs to be patient till a hole opens up, obviously neither happened yesterday...

Liked Murrays line again yesterday 13 rushes, 2 yards!!! So is that Murrays fault or the lines fault, hmmmmm.....

Mostly and obviously when they were playing quite badly:)

There were a couple of earlier season series with the A's where they lit up Martinez and Gonzalez, thus helping to reward them with a new zip code in Round Rock Texas.

Then last go around Colby Lewis pitched a gem against the A's and Chi Chi did well. The match ups for this week are:

Perez vs. Dolin

Lewis vs. Dubront

Gallardo vs ?

? might be Sonny Gray, but they might be watching his innings. Don't know.

To me it look no different on the Dallas side. Our RB did not do any better or worse than when we had Murray[who I like]. Murry did not do squat behind a less than average OL.

I have been impressed with Dallas's D. 2 games and almost no offensive scores by the other side. Other teams have had to get their defense to score to stay in the game. I kinda like to see what Weeden(?) can do.

RG3 RG3 RG3! LOL Omg I would rather have Tim Tebow. At least he doesn't break when you hit him. ;)

Sorry for not being more specific. I meant dallas's running game was no different than when we had Murray and when we didn't.

Randal did not eat up anymore of the meat on the bone either. Then again that could have been because Dez was hurt and teams could focus more on the run.

Mitch Moreland HR got us back in it. Then some good hitting and smart base running.

4 sac fly RBI last night.

At least this time he was prepared going into the inning and not waiting until he got into trouble before using the bullpen phone, that was probably the difference between winning and losing the game...

Oh well he's still wet behind the ears and not used to being in this position this late in the season, he's more used to coaching in meaningless games...

Chi Chi and Nick Martinez are proving to be good innings bridge gaps from the pen. Chi Chi would have been out of the 5th inning jam without runs if Nap did not trip over his own two feet and miss a routine fly ball.

But Nap got on base the next inning and via a pinch runner scored later in the inning.

Interesting as the struggling 'triplets' of Holland, Perez and Gallardo will now headline the Stros series this weekend.

Maybe a smart move, don't know...we will find out:) Sonny Gray not pitching on Thursday so that's a plus.

Perhaps Banny is seeing what I mentioned in the other post. Martinez and Gonzalez can handle 5-6th innings if all of the above run out of pitches or can't get the job done.

Texas Rangers switch rotation; Hamels to miss Houston series, but make three more regular season starts

Angels won 6-5 today (close one in the bottom 9th)

So we are back to 2.5 games up with a chance to make it 3.0 games up tonight.

Still scratching my head at bumping Hamels out. Don't know if Banister sees the Angels as the real threat now and wants Hamels to pitch the last game of the season against them.

After our series with the Stros, they go on for a series with the hot Mariners in Seattle. We play Detroit who seem to be pitching by 'committee' these days.

Looks like he's drying out behind the ears a little he's covering all the bases. This will give him the flexibility to use him in 3 games (if needed) versus the 2 he was scheduled. They have won the last 7 of his starts so he thinks he may need that last one against the Angels, they seem to be putting a run together.

If he doesn't need him for the last game (or the play in game) then he will get some extra rest before the playoffs start...

Looks like Josh is trying to run the bases to see if the knee can handle it and Martin is starting to take some swings at the plate...

So have you thought about who will be on the 25 man roster come the playoffs? It might be kind of early to speculate especially with the status of the 2 above up in the air...

I say they take 12 pitchers and 13 position players, 5 IF, 5 OF, 2 C and 1 DH...

I think you might see some surprises in who makes the playoff roster if he's willing to take some chances...

BTA this will have an effect on what he does too...

Beginning with the 2007 post-season, two changes were made to the injury replacement rules. These were:

(1) The position player for position player and pitcher for pitcher requirement for replacing an injured player in the PEL prior to the start of a post-season series was eliminated.

(2) Players injured during the course of a post-season series could now be replaced during the series. Such replacement must be done on a pitcher for pitcher, position player for position player basis. The rules regarding the players eligible to become replacements are the same as those used for injury replacements prior to a series. However, the injured player, once replaced, is ineligible to participate in any further post-season series, even if he is later healthy.

Rules are fair in my opinion.

If Martin can swing a bat and throw and catch a ball take him on. Good speed and his bat HAS to be better than Stubbs and Venable combined. Those dudes play great OF but have holes in their bats.

Josh would be a great bench bat.

As an AL team, the Rangers are handicapped when playing in an NL ballpark. Does Fielder or Mitch play first base? Which ever bat is most hot? Tough decision but we are not there yet:)

Two persons you might have a tough time deciding between is Alberto and Rua. They are the only 2 that I know of that can fill in at SS or 2B if either Andrus or Odor gets hurt and has to sit out a game or 2...

I don't know if Rua is that good at either position but I know he's played them before, about the only things he hasn't done is P and C...

Yes caught the 7th on the radio heading home. Saw the 9th at home. The A's are in a state where if a team does not sweep them there's a problem. What was one of the best rotations last season is now just a burned out hull. I hope for Beane's sake, he got some talent from dumping so much.

Nice pick up on Smolinski. Too bad he did not hit for us the way he is in Oak.

If we keep present course we will face the Royals first. That's if the Jays keep the best record and get the WC winner.
