Why should I get off "Evis" case he still needs to improve his batting with RISP and be more consistent, he gets paid way too much for his output. Choo, Beltre and Odor started the season way worse than he did and they've all passed him in just about all statistics except for SBs... Oh well maybe Profar will come back strong and give them the opportunity to ditch Evis, I can only hope... A good RHed OF would be a good return for trading Evis... I don't think he's played a single game in the OF this year, I'm betting it's from the foot injury he had last year... Odor at SS and Profar at 2B. I think that would be a nice combo 2-3 years down the road.

DD was hobbling a bit last night and sat out the final two innings. His bat has been cold for almost three weeks now and he is not getting the same amount of BB he usually squeezes out. I still like him in the lineup. Don't think Banny is going to mess with the lineup when things are working. But if they have a few games where DD's bat becomes an issue, they may want to move him down a bit and maybe put Odor in the 2 slot and Choo in the lead off spot. Again, things are working now, so no tinkering. You beat me to it I was just getting ready to say looks like DD needs a few games off, this year is probably more than he's ever played before... Either that or he's feeling the pressure and pressing too much... A's pitching could give the Astro's batters fits, the lead could grow this weekend... Plus the Astros pen is smoked after this week. Another factor: Astros a young team and have not been in a Sept position where they had to play catch up. We shall see. Here are the matchups for the Astros-A's this weekend: Friday: Athletics Astros Doubront (3-2) Fiers (7-10) Saturday: Athletics Astros Gray (13-7) Kazmir (7-10) Sunday: Athletics Astros Brooks (2-3) McHugh (16-7) We miss Iwakuma but get Nuno and Hernandez. We have Gallardo, Hamels and Holland this weekend. Gray/Kazmir should be a good matchup low scoring I would imagine...
Hopefully the A's will tire them out a bit more before we come into town... A's beat the Astros at their own homerun game. Nice of them since we lost leaving the bases loaded twice and a total of 10 LOB. Napoli in LF allowed an additional run to score. Can't win them all but Rangers need to take the next two. That will be a chore cause Hernandez is pitching Sunday, Derek will have to be on top of his game... And had 4 DPs turned against them... This team really needs an RHed OF that can both hit and field, not one or the other. I have a sneaking suspicion this will be a big issue in the playoffs if they make it... Drew Stubbs used to be a decent OFer when he was in Cincy he's sure went downhill at the plate... Sounds to me like Magaden needs to work really hard with Stubbs and figure out how to fix his swing, not much time left in the season. They have so many extra pitchers right now they could be used for extra BP to help fix some batters swing issues... I went and looked up Valencia's (He hit 2 of those 3 HRs) card with the A's and his picture still showed him a Blue Jays uniform, LOL... 10-1. Good game for Gimenez with 3 RBI. Now on to Felix. Mariners used 7 relievers. Rangers need to get some runs or pitch count up on Felix early. MLB Channel kept checking in on the game until they got the 5-1 lead then nothing the rest of the night. Looks like they got some of the bench players into the game late, card is fairly long. Noticed Chi Chi closed out the game, I'd bet they did that to see how he would react to coming out of the pen in relief. I'd also bet he will be on the playoff roster if they make it... Seen A's were up on the Astros 6-3 at one time and figured cool another loss for the Stro's but it didn't end that way. Neither Grey or Kazmir pitched very well but Jake Smolinski had a decent game for a change, he hasn't hit very well all year. If you have a good balance in your lineup and bench and they can protect each other, you force the other team into using up their pen if they want a chance to win. Rangers don't quite have the balance I would like to see but it seems to be good enough for right now. Especially when Choo and Beltre are just tearing the opposition up. For the last 10 days both are batting right at .500 along with 6 BBs each, and have raised their BAs closed to 20 points. (Looks like all the talking bad we did about them earlier is finally paying off)... :) I noticed DD looked a little better last night a couple of hits and RBIs, also replaced him later in the game to give him a little rest for today... Pitchers kept Seager, Cruz and Cano in check again just need to do it again today and they stand a chance at winning the game and series... Then on to Oakland and Houston for 6 on the road... Twinkies are done lost a DHeader to Angels yesterday too far back now I think to have a chance... Angels go to Houston for 3 starting tomorrow would be nice to see them take 2 of 3... Still haven't decided if Houston or Angels will take final playoff spot Yankees are beginning to look like they will make the playoffs but still have one more against the Mets and 3 in Toronto to get thru, after that their schedule looks fairly easy... Brian Cashman said yesterday that as long as the Yanks make the playoffs ,he doesn't care how they do it . It's the final destination that's important . I for one would still be looking to take the division. They will know where they stand after the next 4 games. You will know where they are headed Wednesday .If they pitch Tanaka against the Jays then you'll know they are still going for the division. If not ,then they will be shuffling the line up to make sure he pitches the wildcard game. Tonight is big. CC v Harvey . Which one will come out of the game 1st ? Buck Showalter floated the idea of expanding the Sept roster BUT only having 25 active players each game . When you think about it ,no other professional sport changes the rules it plays under during the season ;let alone during the final playoff push month . Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

Angels-Astros this week. Do we want the Stros to finish off the Angels or the Angels taking down the Stros? We can expect I think one team to win two of three which pretty much keeps things the way they were. Twins have an easy road until KC for last season series. Something I've never figured out is when the starting pitcher is having major control issues why do they keep him out there? I can see why when the rosters are only 25, (but now they have 40) come on they should have had somebody warmed up and ready to go the top of the 5th, somebody who could go 2 innings or so... Yes, after Seager got on base they should have brought in Nick Martinez. So will be quite a fight to the finish now in the AL West. Rangers can't play footsie with the A's. Rangers have a much better record against the Stros (12-4) than the Angels (5-10) so you should probably root for the Stros... Their record against the A's is 6-10... This is the way it's supposed to be everybody in the division fighting it out to the end the last 30 games or so... They have a good line, vaunted ehhh not so much, especially the way they call penalties these days... The line can only do so much it's up to the QB to get rid of the ball quickly and the RBs to be patient till a hole opens up, obviously neither happened yesterday... Liked Murrays line again yesterday 13 rushes, 2 yards!!! So is that Murrays fault or the lines fault, hmmmmm..... Mostly and obviously when they were playing quite badly:) There were a couple of earlier season series with the A's where they lit up Martinez and Gonzalez, thus helping to reward them with a new zip code in Round Rock Texas. Then last go around Colby Lewis pitched a gem against the A's and Chi Chi did well. To me it look no different on the Dallas side. Our RB did not do any better or worse than when we had Murray[who I like]. Murry did not do squat behind a less than average OL. I have been impressed with Dallas's D. 2 games and almost no offensive scores by the other side. Other teams have had to get their defense to score to stay in the game. I kinda like to see what Weeden(?) can do. RG3 RG3 RG3! LOL Omg I would rather have Tim Tebow. At least he doesn't break when you hit him. ;)

Randal did not eat up anymore of the meat on the bone either. Then again that could have been because Dez was hurt and teams could focus more on the run.

At least this time he was prepared going into the inning and not waiting until he got into trouble before using the bullpen phone, that was probably the difference between winning and losing the game... I guess Moreland is nursing some sore legs. I saw some fan question about putting Nap at 1B and Moreland in LF. I think the answer was sore legs or the Rangers not wanting to increase Moreland's risk of injury.
