This one has got me shaking my head, if the surgery is that minor (the team thinks he will be back before the end of the season) why didn't he get it done when he went on the DL a month ago???

Guess it didn't feel too hurt back then. With Josh anything is possible.

How do you propose on getting to the end of a dark tunnel when the light goes out at the 1/2 way point...

Good point. Even though they went 5-5 on this road trip and looked tired and gimpie, they are still sitting in a good position to make a final run on the division and 2nd WC. At this point slumps will be slumps and it is 90% management and coaching the rest of the way.

I guess I wasn't too clear I should have said when he first went on the DL with the knee he said he was going to have to get surgery done on it but was going to have to wait until the off season. But now it seems like it was more of a molehill than the mountain he made it out to be, which is why I said he should have done it a month ago...

They've played 139 games this year so far, Andrus has played 137, Fielder 135, Beltre 120 but was out over 2 weeks with the hand, Choo 126 cause he couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with his bat for awhile but has been hitting much better for the last 2-3 months.

Now have Gallardo and Chi Chi to finish out the weekend. Colby gets to pitch against the Stros too I believe.

I don't think they are going away anytime soon, they have a very easy schedule the rest of the way... Also the Angels are still lurking...

OTOH the Rangers are 1.5 games behind the Astros so they may not have to worry about the Twinkies much longer if they take over the division lead...

Yankees drop game 1 of double bill.

And in extra innings. Jays have Monday off.

Sweeping a double header is rare these days. So Yanks will probably gain back a game.

Fielder has only four hits in his last 40 at-bats, dropping his batting average from .341 to .306.

"I'm not looking at numbers regardless of what the results are," Fielder said. "I'm just controlling my mindset and controlling trying to get a good pitch to hit."

And swinging at inside pitches that would have hit you if you weren't bailing out and swinging at the same time...

Another LHer (on a bad team) does them in cause they have no RH bats that can hit the ball on a consistent basis...

You would have thought Gallardo would have been pulled when he gave up the 1st HR and showed he had no command of his fastball whatsoever...

a glimmer of hope . Tanaka earned his $ today . He gave them innings in a shut out win. 3 1/2 games behind after this disastrous weekend BUT .............

The glimmer of hope . 1) The Yank offense did not fail them ...it was the rotation . Pitchers like Severino and even Pineda and Nova have not looked as bad as they did this weekend so they need to rebound.

2) The Jays look like an ordinary team without Tulowitzki and Encarnacion in their lineup. Tulowitzki is out 2 weeks . Encarnacion is day to day .

The Yanks need to stay in the hunt into next weekends series . You gotta believe !

Tom about 20 games left give or take.

Loads can happen. I see that whoever is competitive and competing today will most likely hang tough to the end.

The Ranger bats were silent for a week and today Beltre is 2-3 2 HRs and 5 RBI. Fielder is 2-3 and Choo is 2-2 with a BB and HR.

Just in time for the Astros to come to town.

LOL and my old Mets are beating teams in the later innings. Papa redleghunter is smiling:)

Yes he is . Remember sitting with him cheering on the Giants in the bad old days when the Giants were the most pathetic team in the league .

Then he came to Long Island in 86 because the women were having a baby shower for my wife . So we went to the apartment I was renting and watched the Giants against the Vikes .The Giants were losing late in the game 20–19 with 72 seconds left in the fourth quarter at the Minnesota .Then Phil Simms completed a desperation fourth and 17 to Bobby Johnson for a first down . Then the Giants won the game on Raul Allegre's 5th field goal of the game. From then on ,the Giants dominated . The Giants won their first Super Bowl one week before my daughter was born. I've always given a big assist to Pappa redleghunter

Mike Napoli starting in LF today. He never played the position as a pro. Let's see how that works out.

NOTHING IN LEFT

The Rangers had lost five of their previous six games against left-handed starters, so Banister did what he could to get his best hitters in the lineup. That included slugger Mike Napoli getting his first professional action in left field. Napoli played the first five innings in left without getting a ball hit his way before going to his usual position, first base. Napoli then had a fielding error on a grounder in the sixth.

He got on base 3 times which gave Evis and Roogie someone to drive it which is better than the other LFers have been doing...

Well Banister is listening to you Zig.

I'm really surprised he didn't play Rua since he had been doing so well at RR but this worked out so what the heck...

Just looked at the roster for tonight's game and he's got Naps in LF again and batting 5th against the LHer Kazmir... This just goes to show you how little Bannister trusts the other RHers on the roster and especially the ones in the OF... That has got to be something that is addressed in the off season...

Altuve just took Hamels deep for a 1-0 lead in the 1st... If Hamels can keep the ball in the park he can beat the Astros. The Astros are the quintessential young team, low batting average and a lot of HRs, all or nothing no patience... Young teams also like to pick on the heeter so if he has good offspeed stuff tonight he should cut thru them like a hot knife thru butter...

Errors almost got the Rangers tonight.

Hamels kept them in the game. Kela got a huge out (Altuve) going behind 3-1. Nap was taken out in the 7th for Stubbs. And #BigBoy went deep.

Tolly closed it out with a great no out double play by Roogie. Then he smoked Rasmus.

Exciting game. Sonny boy had to hit the hay while game was tied. Nice good morning note for him tomorrow. :)

Watched the game till Rangers let Houston tie it at 3, figured after that easy run they would figure out a way to lose so said heck with it and went to sleep... (Some of us Non-Democrat voters have to work for a living you know)...

Hamel's did alright pitching against a team he's never seen before, their roster has turned over almost completely since 2012. Threw way too many fastballs to those young hitters but got away with most of them. His heeter doesn't have a whole lot of movement to it kinda flat and easy to hit if it isn't in the right location...

It was nice that the Leftys broke thru against a LH pitcher for a change, especially against Kazmir who normally gives them fits... 1-2 more decent RH bats would really help...

Let's see they have 5 left against Rangers, 3 with Angels, 3 Seattle, 3 Arizona and 3 with Oakland. They are 24-44 on the road and 8 of those games are on the road. SO this means Rangers better sweep them at home before they go to Houston for 3 late next week...

For the Rangers to hang around they need to beat Kyle Seager and the M's....And not play footsies with the A's and sweep them in O co. like they did consistently last year. If they can handle the low ball teams, who are out to play spoiler, they can hang on to a playoff spot. The Astros have an easier route IMO. The Twinkies also have an easier schedule after the Angels but has KC to end the season. KC at that point will probably throw out their AAA ball players for that series to stack their rotation for the divisional series.

19 or so games left and loads could still happen.

18 games, Astros 17...

Lets see the Rangers have 5 with Astros, 3 with Seattle, 3 with Oakland, 3 with Detroit and 4 with Angels to end the season...

It seems to me I remember hearing/seeing the Astros had a very low winning percentage when hitting 1 or less HRs, but can't seem to find it again...

14-3 win. Fielder had quite a night with 2 HRs.

Nap and Roogie went deep early and Wilson late in the game.

Angels lost and Twinkies losing in the bottom 12th.

Angels vs. Twins starting tomorrow. Then I think the Angels play the Astros. Angels may be done if they can't sweep the Twins and Stros. Stros get back a few of their starters tomorrow off DTD.

Angels vs. Twins starting tomorrow.

Depending on what happens in that series and what other teams do, both teams could be pretty much eliminated...

I'm beginning to think the Twinkies have shot their wad and are gonna fade away...

Yankees look like they might play well enough to make it to the playoffs by are having to ride their "old fogeys" and pitching pretty hard to maintain their lead... They may end up being "one and done" when it's all said and done...

Jays are still playing very well so I can't imagine any scenario to where they wouldn't make it, too much offensive talent...

The Jays and Yanks have played even since last weekend and they have 2 key offensive weapons injured . They even lost one in Atlanta and have a game today against them . Then they play the Red Sox ....not a gimmee by any stretch. The next 6 games will decide the Yank's season....3 against the Mets and 3 against the Jays. If the Yanks are in a one gamer against the Stros ,the likely pitching match would be Tanaka v Keuchel . I'd take my chances.Keuchel got pretty beat up yesterday ......thank you very much !!
