Matz was going to be the 6th man in the rotation. He pitched yesterday and developed a blister on his finger .

Leave it to the Mets to have a controversy during a pennant run. Last time it was Pedro in 2006 if I am not mistaken.

Rangers up 2-0 in the 7th. Astros lost.

We need Gary's Royals to come through and beat the Twins this week:)

Mark who ?

You still have to deal with "Mark who" for at least one more year, that's how much longer his contract runs. If A-Roid retires at the end of the season then move him to DH and let Bird play 1st...

Kela is out with sore elbow, looks like he will get some rest whether or not the Rangers can afford it. He has been used a lot this year he may end up being shut down, we'll see. But Faulkner filled in for him and did what the fireman is supposed to do, used only 20 pitches to get 5 outs.

No ,Pedro was 2005 . According to Pedro ,Jeff Wilpon forced him to pitch even though he had a bad toe; and it ruined his shoulder .He struggled through 2006 with various issues ,and went on DL at the beginning of 2007 to repair his rotator cuff .

2007 the Mets had one of those epoch collapses ,losing 12 of their last 17 games and blowing a 7 game lead after Sept 12. Pedro sat out most of the season with his injury ,but came back in time to make the post season roster . He went 3-1.

That was beautiful to watch. He just gunned them down.

Dyson still getting the job done too. Wondered why Chirinos gave a sinker ball thrower a high target. That ball almost got out of the ball park. Note to Chirinos, talk with the guys who know Dyson.

It would be nice if Faulkner could become a regular piece of the bullpen. Noticed they recalled Scheppers, hope he has got his stuff back.

Did you see this snapshot from the Odor swiping home on a wild pitch? It is usually good practice to keep your eyes open when trying to tag a runner:

Banister is impressed with Faulkner. He put him in a pressure situation and Faulkner rose to the occasion. I like younger pitchers who don't think too much and just blow away a line up:)

You would think Banister learned keenly from Scheppers. Whatever he has going on, it won't get solved this season. If we ever get in a game again where we score a bunch of runs, Schep is the guy to eat up 2 innings at most...and be on a short leash.

These are so close due to in large part this:

All the more amazing, considering that they’ve scored three or fewer runs in five of their first seven games on the road trip. That was due to a wretched 3-for-44 stretch with runners in scoring position in the first six games. Statistically, the Rangers are still struggling. But, Adrian Beltre’s bases-loaded single in the sixth Monday may have been a starting point for the lineup to stabilize.

So it seems the Rangers have no issues filling the bases but knocking them in...not so good:)

Could be an issue that Fielder is in a slump. His BA went down another 10 points in a week.

Veneble and Stubbs are no help at the bottom of the order. That Josh Hamilton threat in the 6 or 5 spot is probably gone for the season as he is relegated to pinch hitting (which did not see him bat much last series). Joey Gallo has fallen off the radar too.

We discussed this earlier and agreed Joey should have stayed in the minors till the season ended, then went on to the fall league.

Josh has been rode hard and put away wet too many times, I suspected this was going to happen when they traded for him and my fears were correct. First thing he needs to do is get the knee fixed, then the Rangers need to decide whether to keep him and DH him or play him at 1st, or trade him. I don't think you can put him in the outfield and expect him to stay healthy...

I might be crazy to think this but I wish Lyonis Martin was coming back soon. Veneble and Stubbs are doing fine but their bats are not much better.

Gallo hitting the ball finally.

Mitch, Odor and Choo went yard tonight. 6-1 Rangers in bottom 4th.

Mets down 7-1 come back to win 8-7.

Twins lose, Yankees edged by the woeful Os and the blue birds win.

Mets just ended the Nats season -- that was a turrible loss. The Twin...fugetabout them. The Yanks...oy...losing to the sickly O's. I couldn't bear watching the last few innings cuz I had a baaad feeling.

They are only 2.5 back of the Rangers and most of their games left are against teams in their division who are below them in the standings. So you can't quite count them out yet with that easy schedule...

He had the hamate bone in his RH (throwing hand) removed on the 27th of Aug so no more hitting for him until 4-6 weeks from then. He can be a PH and PR starting sometime this week if hand is progressing satisfactorily. Doesn't look as if he will be very useful if he plays at all...

He's always had issues when he moves up a notch so it takes time for him to catch up to the style/quality of pitching. He did go yard last night and only K'd one time so that is an improvement, can he do it against better pitching???

The O's are done. Yankees should win the rubber game tonight. Rangers need to set their sites on winning the AL West. It's win or bust with 7 more games against the 'Stros. Makes for GREAT September baseball. Just thinking that the Rangers were predicted to be well below .500 this year after losing two pitchers.

Twinkies still hanging in there riding their #1 prospect. How long that lasts who knows? Everyone thought Puig would carry the Dodgers to a WS victory. How did that work out?

That was an awesome game for the Mets. Saw a bit of it since MLB At Bat App had that as the free game of the day. If they win tonight I think that will pretty much put the needed nail in the Nats coffin.

Every team has some hurt or sore players right now. The Yanks have a +4 lead on the Rangers for the first WC slot. Time for them to rest some of the veterans for a few days.

Good to see Joey Gallo put one out. The M's put in a young gun who throws heat. He pitched Joey a heater inside and knee high. Right in the wheel house of Gallo. Blast over the Right field fence.

The one strike out last night came on a 9 pitch count. Significant improvement IMO. Why that kid threw Gallo a heater in his wheel house is amazing. That was AFTER the catcher came out to the mound after one pitch to probably tell him "Jobu hates the curve ball." Yet the heater came the next pitch:) Good for us. I hope more pitchers try challenging him that way:)

Gallo did fine early with better pitching. He is one of a few that have taken Kershaw yard.

How to strike out Gallo from my observation is to throw him high in the strike zone inside. He swings everytime at those pitches and has not learned to shorten his swing up to make contact. He still thinks he can get up that high and belt it over the fence. He has shown a bit more maturity on the low breaking ball or sinking fastball inside. He used to tee off on those everytime. Now he looks at most of them.

He needs to learn from Fielder and figure out how to spread the ball around a bit even if he grounds out a bit more. The more he runs up counts and runs them 3-2 the more he is going to get what he wants. Takes a lot of patience to reach that level.

I missed the line drive to the shoulder. Probably got painful around the 7th when he gave up 3 ERs.

Deikman gave up a 2 run HR, but not surprised. He has not pitched in quite a few games. He kept throwing Cano inside low part of the strike zone pitches. I expected to see an outside slider or curve to get him fishing for strike 3 but instead he pitched 97 mph in the very SAME spot as the three previous pitches. WTH! Well Cano knew what to do with something he saw 4 times.

The one injury that bothers me is Eovaldi . He is mediocre ,but the Yanks score when he pitches.

The Yanks live and die with the HR .They didn't get them yesterday and wasted an excellent day by Tanaka.

Bird has been an adequate replacement for Tex . He is hitting homers and getting RBIs at a pace at least the equal that Tex produced and most important ;the Yanks are 15-6 in games he's played .

Gardy was slumping before his injury and Beltran ,Chris Young have taken up the slack. Waiting for Ellesberry to wake up.

Meanwhile A Roid has 30 HR and McCann has a career high 25 HR .He's looking good for a 100 RBI season. Not too shabby for a catcher .

Not sure what they are going to do about another starter because I think Eovaldi is shot until the playoffs . CC goes tonight .They will need an offensive outburst I believe

Texas in the rear view ? I hope so . I want them to take their division. A 7 game series against Texas would be a blast .

Looks like the must see 1 game wildcard game will be Pittsburg v Chitown Cubs .

I think the Cubbies will try real hard to get close in the Division. But what 7 games is quite a hill to climb at this point.

Very same spot for 3 pitches...

Catchers fault or pitchers fault??

My first guess would be pitching according to the defensive alignment...

Throw him high inside

Most LHers like the ball lower in the strike zone, but will still swing at the high ones cause they can see the pitch real well. Not very many can catch up to those high pitches and are better off laying off them, hopefully Joey will learn that.

I think they will keep playing everybody until they take back the division or they figure out they can't and rest them for the inevitable WC game...

BTA if the Twinkies keep playing well the Yankees might find themselves completely out of the playoffs. I know 6.5 games is a lot but the Jays made up almost 10 on them in a month...
