Brewers superstar Ryan Braun was the first victim of Major League Baseball’s investigation into the Biogenesis of America clinic, as the league suspended him on Friday for the remainder of the season without pay. Now the focus has shifted to Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez. The evidence against the 14-time All-Star is ”far beyond” what the league had against Braun, according to ESPN.com. However, the Yankees don’t expect Rodriguez to be suspended immediately, sources told the website. ESPN.com is also reporting that, according to sources, Rodriguez could very likely face a suspension similar to Braun’s. An MLB source told CBS Evening News’ Jim Axelrod, however, that the five-time American League home-run champion could be looking at a lifetime ban. So will the three-time American League MVP cut a deal with the league? “My understanding is he’s trying to make a deal,” a source told the website. “But I don’t think it’s going to happen (Monday).” A-Rod has admitted to using performance-enhancing drugs while with the Texas Rangers from 2001-03. The injured 37-year-old, who has denied using them since, told WFAN radio last week that he hasn’t instructed anyone to make a deal with the league “at this point” regarding a Biogenesis-related suspension. But following Braun’s decision to cooperate with MLB investigators, A-Rod could end up changing his mind and taking the same route. CBSSports.com/WFAN baseball insider Jon Heyman reported on Monday, prior to the announcement of Braun’s punishmen, that Rodriguez’s suspension is expected to be announced within the next two to three weeks. “I don’t know what happened with Alex,” Yankees closer Mariano Rivera said on Monday. “He’s my teammate, and I have to support him 100 percent. We need to see where this goes. The good thing about this is we’re cleaning the game. That’s the way it should be. I think this is a message for whoever tries to do this again, that it’s going to be caught. It’s going to be caught. “I mean, I have to support him. He’s my teammate. He’s my brother. Definitely, I (can’t) say if he did or didn’t do it. If it happens, I can’t throw him in the street, you know? He’s still my brother.” The 20-year veteran batted .272 with 18 home runs and 57 RBIs for the Yankees in 2012. He hasn’t played at all this season. To: Brian S (#0) I gave up on pro baseball after that strike in '93(?). Like many sports involving millions of dollar, cheating is part of the game. I think I have 7 Reggie Jackson Topps rookie cards from my teenage days. They were worth something when he made the Hall of Fame, but then the baseball card business became crooked too. Grew up in a neighborhood where we played sandlot baseball all summer long just about every day all day long until dark. Whole neighborhood of kids too. When evening came we all went down to the street lights at the bottom of the hill and played stick ball until our parents called us to come home. Then some of us would get together at one of the homes and watch MLB games of our local teams (Mets/Yankees). Great memories. Did not play "organized" baseball until little league age, but we still played sandlot ball during the little league season. That is probably why so many of us were really good at that level since we played all the time. Had a retired NYC cop teach us now then some batting and pitching tips. How many kids today know how to throw a fork ball or curve and change up at age 7:) Kept that love of baseball alive with my sons in their early years. Since kids don't stay out all day in the summer playing sandlot baseball I get my boys out a lot in the front yard and involve them in organized youth league baseball. My youngest started youth league baseball at 4 years old and he has the baseball "bug" real bad. I have also coached both my son's team as a batting coach/base coach for my older son, and head coach for my younger son. A bunch of kids trying real hard to make the big leagues. Usually high scoring games or one side has a pitching prospect that pitches a shut out. Great thing about going to minor league games is that you can watch a kid develop and when he hits the big leauge you can point and say "I remember that kid when he was at AA." I have my son get autographs from the AAA team. We were not going to "sell the farm" literally for a mediocre bat. The Twitter sphere was a buzz yesterday with JD trying to make a big deal for a young long term contract big bat in Gioncarlo Stanton of the Marlins. Either the price was too high (understandable given the kid is only 25 and has years to play) or Miami wondered if they could get people to come to games if they dealt him. If the Rangers can keep pitching the way they are now and getting the key hits like the past few nights, I think we will be ok. I still think JD is going to work the long-term contract big bat before the non waiver deadline at the end of August. If not, our chances are better on the off season Free Agent Market. We talked to them about sending Profar, Perez, and some others. I don't have much more on this other than Miami wanted one major league ready outfielder in return. So it didn't work out. It was at this point where JD stopped going after the really big bats. In the last 20 minutes he made a late push at Hunter Pence and Michael Morse. Obviously these didn't work out either. He had an extremely busy day. The man tried his best, but it was just one of those years. We'll be big players this offseason I'm sure. Hope this interests some. They've been kicking the tires on Stanton for sometime now and nothings come of it because of what the Marlins are rumored to want. Profar, Perez and a couple of other prospects which in my opinion is too high a price. Trading Profar is one thing Perez is another, he has more worth to the Rangers because good starting pitching is hard to get. I don't even follow my local team the Reds but for some reason I like following the Rangers, guess it's because I lived there for 11 years and hope to eventually go back... It was AAA ball and there is some sort of voting going on for the best AAA venue and Slugger Field is in the top three last I heard.
