Americans United for Separation of Church and State says the comments violated federal law

During the message at St. Mary's Cathedral in Peoria, Roman Catholic Bishop Daniel Jenky contended social services for Catholics could be eliminated if Obama's directive to include contraceptives in health insurance continues. Jenky went on to compare the actions to past cultural wars against the Catholic Church. The Anti-Defamation League has demanded an apology. Natalie Martinez reports.

A formal complaint has been filed with the Internal Revenue Service following a local bishop's recent homily comparing President Barack Obama's policies to those of Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin.

The director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State filed the complaint, accusing Roman Catholic Bishop Daniel Jenky of intervening in a political campaign, according to the Chicago Tribune. Rev. Barry Lynn said Jenky's message urged his congregation to vote against Obama.

During Sunday's homily at St. Mary's Cathedral in Peoria, Jenky contended social services for Catholics could be eliminated if Obama's directive to include contraceptives in health insurance continues. Jenky went on to compare the actions to past cultural wars against the Catholic Church.

“Remember that in past history other governments have tried to force Christians to huddle and hide only within the confines of their churches like the first disciples locked up in the Upper Room,” Jenky said.

In comparison, he pointed to Otto von Bismarck's "culture war against the Roman Catholic Church, closing down every Catholic school and hospital, convent and monastery in Imperial Germany."

“Clemenceau, nicknamed ‘the priest eater,’ tried the same thing in France in the first decade of the 20th Century," Jenky said. "Hitler and Stalin, at their better moments, would just barely tolerate some churches remaining open, but would not tolerate any competition with the state in education, social services and health care."

"In clear violation of our First Amendment rights, Barack Obama, with his radical, pro-abortion and extreme secularist agenda, now seems intent on following a similar path,” he said.

The Anti-Defamation League on Thursday demanded an apology for the comments, calling them "not only offensive, but grossly inaccurate and dangerous rhetoric."

"A clergy person with so many people listening to every word should be more responsible and should think twice before making analogies," said League Regional Director Lonnie Nasatir.

The Archdiocese of Chicago said they offer religious freedom as something they encourage people to investigate.

Maybe the Catholic Church should stop accepting government money to fund their social services.

As advanced social thinkers rediscover the power of faith-based institutions to rescue the down-and-out by transforming the dysfunctional worldview that often lies at the root of their difficulties, you would think that Catholic Charities USA would be a perfect model to emulate, getting the poor into the mainstream by emphasizing moral values and ethical conduct. But no: rather than trying to promote traditional values and God-fearing behavior, Catholic Charities—and the same could be said about the Association of Jewish Family and Children's Agencies or the Lutheran Services in America—has become over the last three decades an arm of the welfare state, with 65 percent of its $2.3 billion annual budget now flowing from government sources and little that is explicitly religious, or even values-laden, about most of the services its 1,400 member agencies and 46,000 paid employees provide.

Toepel fretted that the recent elimination of nearly $100,000 in state funds -- some 48 percent of her budget -- has nearly devastated the senior citizen ombudsman program she oversees for Catholic Charities in the Diocese of Stockton, Calif.

"Our state wiped out our funding," Toepel told Catholic News Service.

What do you mean by "maybe" hag?

How about "DEFINITELY" hag?

Do you see the feral gooberment giving money to religious outfits as a delineated gooberment power in the US CONSTITUTION hag?

Really?

Spoiled, stupid and ignorant, brain dead phuckwads, libTURD fools, tools, and idiots, are the real sickness; the messiah "king" obammy and his regime are only the symptoms.
