The Jewish people, from its inception, has been unique by its identity as a religious entity. Through the centuries its religious character had been a premise agreed upon by Jews and non-Jews alike. Our faith demands as the fundamental condition for recognition as a Jew, belief and adherence to the word of G-d, as was revealed to our forefathers on Mount Sinai. This is in itself, according to the tenets of the Jewish religion, sufficient to fulfill the definition of a Jew. Our religious and traditional history bears no aspect of racism. Hence, one of non-Jewish origin is capable of being proselytized and attaining the same status as a born Jew. Conversely, one of Jewish birth who does not recognize his being bound to the Jewish Torah, is by Jewish law a heretic, and therefore forfeits his spiritual birthrights as a Jew.

The purpose of the Jew is to bear witness to the existence of G-d, through his adherence to the Torah. The Al-mighty granted the Jews the land of Israel as the particular setting which would serve as the most conducive atmosphere to their performance of their duties to G-d.

The Jews in ancient times were banished from the land of Israel because they had failed to fulfill their obligations to the Al-mighty. Every Jew acknowledges this in his prayers (Umipnei Chatoeinu Golinu Meiartzeinu). They accepted the penalty of exile and were at that time expressed sworn by the Al-mighty not to accelerate their redemption on their own, and especially not to rebel against the nations under whose rule they were found. To the contrary, every Jew is commanded to pray for the peace and well being of the government of which he is the subject.

Through all the years of exile, pious Jews as individuals were attracted to reside in the Holy Land because of its innate holy character and the opportunity it offered for the observance of various precepts bound in the land. Jews as a whole continue to pray that the Al-mighty return his Divine presence to the Land of Israel, by the coming of the Messiah, who will build His Temple, from whence will emanate Divine Wisdom and ultimate spiritual fulfillment of the entire human race.

Through the many years that Jews resided in the Holy Land for this purpose, they enjoyed tranquil and cordial relations with the non-Jewish population there.

The Zionist movement which was formed at the latter part of the last century, sought to endow the Jews with a nationalistic character which was heretofore strange to them. It sought to deprive them of their historically religious character and offered in substitution of faith in G-d and adherence to the Torah...

The religious Jews who by virtue of their faith, clearly contradicted Zionist nationalism, and who had lived peacefully with their Arab neighbors for generations, became unwillingly identified with the Zionist cause and their struggle with the Arabs. They requested the United Nations that Jerusalem be designated as a defacto international city. They appealed to the diplocatic corps assigned to Jerusalem -- but to no avail. They were hence confronted with the choice of either becoming a part of the Zionist State, which diametrically opposed the interests of Jews as a religion, or abandoning the land of which their forefathers were the first Jewish settlers.

Good piece. It explains well why Zionism and Judaism are not in any way joined at the hip. In fact, it make sense for Jews who love their religion, humanity and justice to become increasingly vocal and active in taking the concept of Zionism to task.

It makes sense for them to work for human rights, a fair justice system and representation in government for all people living in Palestine, not just Jewish Israelis.

Today, Jewish = Zionist. Leftist or Rightest. Moderate or Extremist. Jewish = Zionist. There is really no difference today.

Indeed they are not.

Further the ashkenaz Jews have treated indigenous Jews almost as badly as they've treated palestinians.

That isn't true at all. The entire reason why the Jews claim they are "the chosen people" is because the bloodline covenant established with Yahweh (God) and the entire idea of a Jewish nation was to ensure the bloodline exists forever as the covenant between Jews and Yahweh.

The Jews borrowed their ideas of a single God from Iranian Zoroastrian thought. They further developed rituals and traditions establishing their desert cult as a religion.

Correct. They are a clan with a maternal-based lineage.

Judaism is NOT a religion. Jews HAVE a religion, but Judaism is NOT a religion.

If your mother was Jewish, you are Jewish, even though you may be a rabid atheist. That's the way it works.

They even call themselves "The Tribe".

Clan (Wikipedia): A clan is a group of people united by actual or perceived kinship and descent. Even if lineage details are unknown, clan members may be organized around a founding member or apical ancestor.

Further the ashkenaz Jews have treated indigenous Jews almost as badly as they've treated palestinians.

By culture

Culturally, an Ashkenazi Jew can be identified by the concept of Yiddishkeit, which means “Jewishness” in the Yiddish language. Yiddishkeit is specifically the Jewishness of Ashkenazi Jews.

Before the Haskalah and the emancipation of Jews in Europe, this meant the study of Torah and Talmud for men, and a family and communal life governed by the observance of Jewish Law for men and women. From the Rhineland to Riga to Romania, most Jews prayed in liturgical Ashkenazi Hebrew, and spoke Yiddish in their secular lives.

But with modernization, Yiddishkeit now encompasses not just Orthodoxy and Hasidism, but a broad range of movements, ideologies, practices, and traditions in which Ashkenazi Jews have participated and somehow retained a sense of Jewishness. Although a far smaller number of Jews still speak Yiddish, Yiddishkeit can be identified in manners of speech, in styles of humor, in patterns of association. Broadly speaking, a Jew is one who associates culturally with Jews, supports Jewish institutions, reads Jewish books and periodicals, attends Jewish movies and theater, travels to Israel, visits ancient synagogues in Prague, and so forth. It is a definition that applies to Jewish culture in general, and to Ashkenazi Yiddishkeit in particular.

Contemporary population migrations have contributed to a reconfigured Jewishness among Jews of Ashkenazi descent that transcends Yiddishkeit and other traditional articulations of Ashkenazi Jewishness. As Ashkenazi Jews moved away from Eastern Europe, settling mostly in Israel, North America, and other English-speaking areas, the geographic isolation that gave rise to Ashkenazim has given way to mixing with other cultures, and with non-Ashkenazi Jews who, similarly, are no longer isolated in distinct geographic locales. For Ashkenazi Jews living in Eastern Europe, chopped liver and gefilte fish were archetypal Jewish foods. To contemporary Ashkenazi Jews living both in Israel and in the diaspora, Middle Eastern foods such as hummus and falafel, neither traditional to the historic Ashkenazi experience, have become central to their lives as Ashkenazi Jews in the current era. Hebrew has replaced Yiddish as the primary Jewish language for many Ashkenazi Jews, although many Hasidic and Hareidi groups continue to use Yiddish in daily life.

This is true, as well as as poorly understood by the American public at large as the demographics of different sub categories of Jewish people, and how they differ and why.

"If your mother was Jewish, you are Jewish, even though you may be a rabid atheist. That's the way it works."

In general, Orthodox Judaism considers a person born of a Jewish mother to be Jewish, even if they convert to another religion.[35] Reform Judaism views Jews who convert to another faith as non-Jews. For example "...anyone who claims that Jesus is their savior is no longer a Jew..." [Contemporary American Reform Responsa, #68].[36][37][38]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Who_is_a_Jew%3F

That's the way it works if you look at the beliefs of one part of that faith and doesn't if you look at what other Jewish groups believe.

Excellent! You know what is suggested. I am never surprised at your perspective, either; it is always rooted in an understanding of underlining principles.

There are many sects within Judaism, however: Karites, Kabbalists, Hasidic, Orthodox, Conservatives and they all (to some degree) agree with Rabbinic scholars; they are Jews because of bloodline and the covenant with Yahweh.

A few points:

Very few people convert to Judaism. Most of the ones that convert, do so because of intermarriage.

Conversions to Judaism are NOT universally recognized by Jews. It depends on who does the conversation. Reformed conversions are not recognized by Conservatives or the Orthodox. Conservative conversions are not recognized by the Orthodox. But the Orthodox do recognize your Jewishness if your mother was Jewish.

Judaism is not a religion. It's a clan. A tribe. A maternally-based genetic bloodline.

Part of their survival strategy is to keep themselves a tight knit group. If they were a religion, their survival would be based on acquiring large numbers of converts. Jews don't actively seek converts like Christians or Muslims. This is why there are only 12 million Jews in the world, while there are 2 billion Christians and 1 billion Muslims.

There isn't anything quite like them anywhere else in the world.

A lot of Americans don't understand this.

It's a tactic to shut down debate about our policies in the Middle East.

It's been used very successfully in American over the last several decades.

Over the last couple of years, a surprisingly number of people have decided not to cower in the corner any longer when someone hurls this accusation.

That's very encouraging.

"...anyone who claims that Jesus is their savior is no longer a Jew..."

The Jewish religion (and there are variations of sects) could care less if any Jewish individual denounces their faith as long as they choose a monotheistic deity. The issue is their bloodline. It has nothing to do with "Faith."

And, I should correct Wiki as Orthodox Jews strongly believe in both the oral and written forms of the Torah; I think you took that Wiki passage out of proper context. I think you are referring to Reform Jews. Still, they believe in the covenant.
