Wheel of Fortune
Post Date: 2013-05-16 02:11:12 by Fred Mertz
I was at the local watering hole this evening and one of the old regulars had tuned to local channel 5 and then he and his wife departed for home. It turned out (no pun) that it was gay night on Wheel of Fortune. The wise guys remaining at the tavern were making guesses as to who was the 'girl' or 'boy' in each of the three couples. I'm sure A K A Stoned would have liked to have watched the show this evening. He seems to have some latent tendencies.

Goldi: We are SLAVES OF THE STATE
Post Date: 2013-02-27 13:59:35 by Fred Mertz
#5. To: BobCeleste (#4) Slavery in Biblical times was far different than the slavery that evolved in the 1700s and beyond. During the Biblical times, a person was "a slave" - but it was a temporary situation. If one owed money to another, he became his "slave" and when the debt was worked off, he was again free. Similarly, a form of slavery was used by many who migrated here to the US...but then it was labled (sic) "indentured servant". That Indentured Servent (sic) earned his freedom by paying off the debt incurred that brought him over from the old country. Few slaves were PERMANENTLY enslaved in Biblical times. Today, according to the Biblical term, we ...
Sheeple: Another Look At A Sad Breed

Some phrases are endowed with immediately recognizable symbolism. When we hear them, we instantly know who and what the phrases are referring to, and can even gain a greater depth of understanding to a particular situation just by applying them. They cause us to step outside our environment and look at it in an entirely different way. They might make us laugh, they might make us cry, but we are not indifferent to these affecting words. Throughout history there have always been people who were right, and usually a majority that were wrong, on any single issue. Defenders of institutionalized ignorance argue constantly that truth is relative, and that they should not ...
The psychology of an internet troll (infographic)
Post Date: 2013-02-02 19:28:44 by Capitalist Eric
Anonymity and a feeling of escapism are among factors that make internet trolls tick, reveals an infographic that examines the psychology of the people who lurk about online and post material intended to provoke a reaction from other internet users. Anonymity refers to the sense of protection the internet offers users of forums and social networks. Users can hide behind user names, and not have to communicate with someone face-to-face. This, in turn, can lead internet trolls to ignore consequences and say or do things online that they may not normally say or do offline and in person. The infographic by bestpsychologyschoolsonline.com also looks at factors such as ...
I'M SICK AND TIRED OF LIES
Post Date: 2013-01-31 17:26:44 by Capitalist Eric
We are a nation of liars. All of us. You , me, the media, the government. Deceit has become as natural to Americans as breathing. Lies are the fuel that fires the world. They emanate from the Father of Lies. Jesus made it pretty clear when he was speaking to the religious leaders of his day. You are of your father the Devil and the works of your father you will do. Even though upwards of 85% of Americans claim to be Christian, they are not. Calling oneself an eagle does not make it possible to fly. If it walks like a duck, and talks like a duck
This is no longer a Christian nation and most people are not Christians. Pretty harsh stuff, eh? The truth is harsh. It ...

Some discoveries are exciting, joyful, and exhilarating, while others can be quite painful. Stumbling upon the fact that you do not necessarily have a competent grasp of reality, that you have in fact been duped for most of your life, is not a pleasant experience. While it may be a living nightmare to realize that part of ones life was, perhaps, wasted on the false ideas of others, enlightenment often requires that the worldview that we were indoctrinated with be completely destroyed before we can finally resurrect a tangible identity and belief system. To have rebirth, something must first die
In 2004, I found myself at such a crossroads. At that time I was a dedicated ...

Random thoughts on the passing scene: When I was growing up, an older member of the family used to say, "What you don't know would make a big book." Now that I am an older member of the family, I would say to anyone, "What you don't know would fill more books than the Encyclopedia Britannica." At least half of our society's troubles come from know-it-alls, in a world where nobody knows even 10 percent of all. Some people seem to think that, if life is not fair, then the answer is to turn more of the nation's resources over to politicians who will, of course, then spend these resources in ways that increase the politicians' chances of ...

Dick Armeys decision to part ways with Tea Partys FreedomWorks created quite the buzz on Wednesday. Departing with an $8 million parachute, Armey claimed that he was leaving due to an internal split over the groups future. My differences with FreedomWorks are a matter of principle, he told the Associated Press. Now, days later, more details are emerging about reasons that led to his departure. We had serious differences of opinion about the process of how you do business, and I wanted to move on, Armey told The Daily Caller in the most recent report. Who Had The Worst Week In Washington? The Tea Party
Post Date: 2012-12-07 11:06:43 by Brian S
The Gadsden flag is flying at half-staff this past week. The tea party that plucky insurgent movement that, as recently as two years ago, began trying to reshape the Republican Party and politics more generally finds itself flailing as 2012 draws to a close, buffeted by infighting, defeats and a broad struggle to find a second act.Consider the following:●Tea party patron saint Jim DeMint stunned the political world by announcing that he would resign from the Senate at the end of the year to take a job as the head of the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank.●FreedomWorks, a Washington-based political group that is one of the pillars of the tea party ...
Judge Orders Father Of 9 To Stop Having Children
Post Date: 2012-12-04 17:34:29 by Brian S
RACINE, Wis. (AP) A Wisconsin father of nine who's behind on child support payments has been ordered by a judge not to have any more children until he can show he can provide for them. Corey Curtis, who fathered the children with six women, owes nearly $100,000 in back child support and interest, according to Racine County prosecutors. In sentencing the 44-year-old father Monday in Racine County Circuit Court for failing to pay support, Judge Tim Boyle lamented that he didn't have the authority to order sterilization for Curtis. "Common sense dictates you shouldn't have kids you can't afford," the judge said. Assistant District Attorney Rebecca Sommers ...
Poll: If Fiscal Cliff Negotiations Fail, Republicans Likely To Get Blame
Post Date: 2012-12-04 10:27:20 by Brian S
Republicans in Congress could shoulder most of the blame for failed fiscal cliff negotiations, according to a Washington Post/Pew Poll released Tuesday. A 53 percent majority of Americans said congressional Republicans would be more to blame if leaders failed to hammer out a deal, while just 27 percent would mostly blame President Barack Obama. While Democrats were the most likely to fault the GOP, about half of independents and 19 percent of Republicans also said they'd blame congressional Republicans. As the Post's The Fix blog notes, "Those numbers are largely unchanged from a Post- Pew survey conducted three weeks ago and suggest that for all of the back and forth in ...
GOP Rep. To Former Bush Staffer, Dan Senor: Investigate WMD Claims Before Attacking Susan Rice
Post Date: 2012-12-02 17:06:43 by Brian S
Rep. Tom Cole, a Republican from Oklahoma, says that if lawmakers are going to go after U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice over her initial public assessment of the September attack in Benghazi then maybe Congress should also look at how President George W. Bush pushed bad intelligence about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. Dan Senor, who worked to spin the Iraq war for the Bush administration as the chief spokesman for the Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA), told a Sunday panel on ABC that Rice deserved to be scrutinized because she was front and center as the voice of the Obama administration after the Benghazi attack. I spoke with one senator who ...

Ohio Senate Kills Anti-Abortion ‘Heartbeat’ Bill
Post Date: 2012-11-28 11:02:53 by Brian S
Republican Ohio state Senate President Tom Niehaus plans to let an extreme anti- abortion bill falter, according to the Associated Press. Though the Ohio House passed the legislation last year, the Republican-led Ohio Senate will not vote on the bill before the end of the legislative session. Niehaus told the Associated Press he wanted the state legislature to focus on jobs and the economy. The so-called heartbeat bill would have prohibited abortion after a fetal heartbeat can be detected, which can be as early as six weeks. The bill did not provide exceptions for rape, incest or the life of the mother. The bill split Ohios pro-life community. Ohio Right to Life ...
Failed Tennessee Republican ‘Family Matters’ Congressional Candidate Arrested For Hitting Wife
Post Date: 2012-11-27 18:27:10 by Brian S
Brad Staats, a Tennessee Republican who lost a congressional election earlier this month, was arrested Sunday on a charge of domestic violence. On the campaign trail, the self-billed family matters candidate championed so-called conservative values like blocking marriage equality, denying women the right to abortions and preventing undocumented immigrants from becoming citizens. Staats lost to Rep. Jim Cooper (D-TN) by a margin of 32 percent to 65 percent, and thanked his wife in his concession speech. Last weekend, however, the 43-year-old Staats wasnt interested in saying much, telling a reporter for The Tennessean that his arrest is not what it appears to ...
